Here’s a few ways of making 3-4 gold a day taking 1-1.5 hours a day. At that rate, NOT including drops, you will be able to afford the ENTIRE Art of War level in 5 days with a 5 person guild group.

1) AC exp paths 1-3

2) CoF (Path 1>1>2)

3) Tradepost flipping

4) Ori-ore farming in Frostgorge Sound or Orr

5) Material flipping from Mystic Forge (granted, has RNG)

I’m sure there are more ways…but it will take a guild of 5 people 5 days…at 1.5 hours a day.

And during that time they’re not having any fun whatsoever. If I wanted more work I’d pick up a second job, this is a game.

So your guild does not find any joy from doing dungeons together, roaming the world looking for ore together, or mat farming together?

Alrighty then.

You miss the point entirely… it is not that we cannot get the upgrades eventually… it is that the guild content (especially the first tier content) should not be prohibitively gated for accessibility to mega guilds and old established guilds only. It makes it harder to start and maintain a new guild when all the content designed to create guild loyalty and cohesion is only easily accessible to guilds that are already established with a large active player base. They don’t need the extra perks as much… they already have some of it through their ability to maintain guild buffs. The ones that need this content (again, especially the first tier guild content) the most are the smaller guilds that earn less influence and need more avenues for creating guild cohesion to avoid bleeding good players to mega guilds that already have all the content unlocked.

If there was no prohibitive mechanic to access to guild missions, what would stop individuals from just making a guild tomorrow and creating events? And what incentive would there be to having a larger guild? Or even increasing your guild size at all?

Yes, it takes 16 days in the que…for a guild that just started, has 0 influence, and paid 78g (15g 60s per person for a guild of 5 close-knit friends in an exclusive guild). Is that not acceptable? 2 weeks to be able to do what “mega-guilds” can?

Can you tell me what would be an acceptable alternative? Have open world events created by single person guilds at tier 1? The exploit potential would be immense…

Here’s what people thought of GW1 when it first came out: http://tinyurl.com/bntcvyc
“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”

Dungeons are aggressivly unfun. Mat farming is aggressivly unfun. Roaming the world is fun and collecting random things is fun, but by requiring collection and donation of all your ori you’ve just turned it into a job and made it unfun. Roaming the world, doing events together and whatnot is fun and I’ve been able to make almost 7k influence for my guild doing that over the last 4 months or so, but in a 5 man guild where most people can play for only an hour or two per day max we’re talking a couple hundred influence/day max. We haven’t built anything in the past month in preparation for this, not a single banner or upgrade, and we’ve managed to bank slightly over 5k influence. Out of 36k and how many build days required for AoW 5.

I have to think that the dev response here is a misspeak.

It would be silly if the missions were gated in such a way that you needed to unlock one to unlock another. The way I envision it working is that they are spread out along the trees, so, for example, the bounty one is tied to AoW, but another might be tied to Economy, another Politics, etc.

I think it would be a bad design choice to do it in the way it seems to be initially answered in this thread, and I can’t see why they would do that, but it’s not like they haven’t made silly decisions before. Hopefully they will clear it up in this thread, otherwise we’ll just have to wait and see.

People’s definitions and perceptions of how many members should constitute a guild is subjective.

How others choose to spend their play time doesn’t necessarily coincide with what you perceive as how the game should be played.

The hard part to digest is that the initial roll out of the new content requires influence in a category most small guilds haven’t invested in yet.

Our preconceived perception was based on Colin’s statement that the first tier would be accessible to all.

We really should have eased into this with something simple in which everyone’s guild could participate.

The larger guilds with banked influence could get the larger content and everyone else would have something to strive for should they choose to.

I am not too enthused about the initial roll out, my small guild won’t be able to initiate any events for a long time. We will choose to spend our influence for more practical applications and prioritize, with Art of War being lowest priority.

The game is beautiful. I and my friends in our small guild really enjoy playing for a couple of hours each evening after work.

The devs see the big picture. John Smith mentioned early on that they have a lot of content planned for years to come.

I have a lot of respect and trust in the Arenanet staff. I don’t always agree with the decisions but I understand that you cannot make all of the people happy all of the time.

Some content works for me, some doesn’t. In my opinion, the diversity is what makes it a great game. If everyone wanted to do exactly what I want to do when I log in, all of those people would be in my way!

By all means voice your opinions. The devs in this game listen and respond, heck they even admit when something was broken. How many games have you ever played where you can actually get prompt honest feedback?

Daily’s and Guild events will breathe new life into zones we seldom revisit once we level up.

Exactly, this is a game, so you might have to a couple weeks to be able to trigger guild events. so whats the big deal? realistically, it is not out of the reach of any sized guild, if you think it is so important and that big of a priority, then as a guild, get together and make it happen.

You’re trying to make it sound like they don’t have any fun playing the game, which isn’t the truth. Sorry, but farming the same dungeon paths over and over again is boring. I’m sure they enjoy doing dungeons, just not grinding them till they go insane. As for mat farming/ore farming, again this is GRINDING. I and most others like to play the game and have fun. I’ve spent time grinding Orichalcum on 5 characters back to back and it makes me want to never play again.

Basically, you’re asking guilds to spend time grinding until they don’t want to play just to get to the content they might want to play. That doesn’t sound fun, rather it sounds like a less than intelligent game mechanic that has proven time and time again doesn’t work well.

Art of War level 5 huh? Well that means if my small guild started working toward it now…. we can join in on all the awesome fun in maybe 2 or 3 months.

It takes you 2-3 months to earn 78g…as an entire guild?

No but it was much easier before drops were nerfed into the ground on nov 15 and before we also found out drops were based on how much damage you were doing to a mob so basically anyone who wasn’t wearing berserker gear was getting kittened out of drops.

Magic find is also kittened which effects how much you can make from drops as well and before you try and say I don’t know what I’m talking about I have 4 level 80’s and 2 of them have exotic jatoro gear and my gaurdian has exotic yakkington’s gear.

This is just one more example of really bad decisions and bad timing on Anet’s part to make a cash grab for gems when all they need to do is add more cosmetic items to the cash shop.

Thankfully there are MANY new mmo titles coming out so Anet’s will have a good reason to stop making bad decisions and stop doing really bad events that are beyond boring and add real content to the game and also:

1. Fix culling and give people more reasons to wvw.
2. Make dungeons more fun instead of doing things like adding 40 more spider adds to the spider boss in AC.
3. Balance the classes and make it so thieves can’t be perma stealthed in wvw. Tone down warrior dps and fix the issues with rangers, necros and engineers.
4. Make fotm part of the rest of the game instead of a grindfest where people have to grind with obnoxious former (insert that game we all know here) players.

And the list goes on……

I happen to really like dungeons but as we all know many people that have left and still in GW2 absolutely detest the dungeons in this game.

I used to do AC every day but it got boring after the 100th run.

Is GW2 a game or a virtual casino?

If our guild can somehow up our influence generation to 500 influence/day, which is a stretch since most of us have real lives that are more important than GW2, and taking into account the 5k influence we’ve banked in the last month, we’ll need 60+ days to build up the influence needed for AoW level 5.

Just because you can’t trigger these events right away does not mean that you can’t participate in them – and doing so will probably get you significant influence.

It sounds like a good opportunity to network with other guilds and people on your server, and that sounds like fun to me! You’ll meet new people and accomplish goals together, and maybe you can get some more people in your guild, or not – completely up to you.

To be completely honest if you’ve only banked 5k influence, what other missions were you expecting to be able to unlock? Do you have any upgrades at all?
