I’ve only been playing for a week but so far it seems that from the beginning of the game until now where I have a couple of lvl 30 toons, the standard reward for questing and the total selling price of misc items when I return to a merchant seems to be around 1-2 silver. One toon has 1.5 gold total and the other has 1.1 gold. According to the guides I’ve read, I will require gear that will cost me well over 50 gold per toon to even have a dungeon viable build. Being a more casual player, I’m starting to feel like that could be a lost cause if I can only expect to have around 3-4 gold by the time I reach level 80..

I wouldn’t recommend buying exotic gear, if that’s what the guide is talking about. Once I hit 80 I had enough karma for a piece of temple gear. I got that, but I still had some outdated gear along with pretty bad weapons. I got a group from my guild and we ran all three paths of AC explorable- all three paths. You don’t HAVE to buy gear, just do dungeons for it. I would suggest getting a weapon first since that would probably be your biggest upgrade.

You will acquire more gold as you progress though the game, but most the time it doesn’t come easy. Most people grind a certain path in a dungeon or just go out and farm all day. I have around 15g and the only armor and weapons I bought were really outdated ones (10-15 levels).

Unless you’re doing Arah, you can do dungeon builds perfectly fine in magic find yellows, which power-wise are probably not much better than level-appropriate greens. Also, most of your gold income should be from selling mats you’ve looted.

At level 80, level-appropriate blues are ~.6-1s, and level-appropriate greens are 1.3-2s, selling to the vendor. Level 80 trophies are 16c per and sometimes drop in sets of 2. This will be the bulk of the “cash” you get from vendors, while everything else (crafting mats, mostly) should be sellable on the TP for various prices. Events are worth 1s each in lowlevel zones and 1.9s each in level-appropriate zones.

Dungeons are 26s per run, plus 60 tokens (level 70+ dungeons sell rares for 30 (I think?) tokens each that can be salvaged for ectoplasm, worth 27s each right now), plus pretty decent loot (rare crafting mats like Lodestones or Cores).

And yes, you can get a full set of exotics for 42k karma per piece, you can get a full set of exotics from dungeon tokens, and you should still be able to buy exos off the TP for what, 2g per? Maybe 4g at the most, if prices have changed.

You’ll be fine. Gold income picks up really quickly once you’re 80, and using 2s greens from the TP (or 30s yellows) won’t make you too weak compared to everyone else.

As with any standard MMO you will need to grind and farm excessively. If you go the role of the traditional Gamer and not one that has no life or grinds/farms forever you will attain things in long, long period of time, months to a year plus for cool ticket items. Playing as if you have no life and grinding/farming to excess you will attain things quickly, this also happens to be the people the game is aimed at.

So you will gain more gold…eventually, depending on how much time you put into the game on a strictly hourly basis.

You can increase your “odds”, and this game is a huge random number generator sink, by eating magic find food, and finding and equiping magic find armor and weps, and jewelry. The game is a crapshoot right now in terms of drops and items, something no one likes right now.

It is up to you how you play GW2, be warned though, the game is only aimed at one specific type of person.

There is no worse feeling than that during an argument, you realize you are wrong.

Be careful when finding other ways to generate gold, you may be banned for exploiting.

According to the guides I’ve read, I will require gear that will cost me well over 50 gold per toon to even have a dungeon viable build.

1000% false.

I ran dungeons for weeks on “rare” gear and “masterwork” trinkets with “major” runes and “major” sigils. Sure 200 power makes a bit of a difference, but it doesn’t make you useless.

You can get all that for under 5 gold, while you far, dungeons for your tokens.

Wherever you have read that, it’s lies.

I started playing since christmas and i have about 3 gold right now. I loot everything that drops and sell most of it on the trading post never merchants. Sharp tooth or w.e its called is 50 something copper rather than 6 copper from a merchant.

I agree totally. You can have a ton of fun and do just about everything in this game for way less than 50g per character.

A pretty easy set of methods to obtain max stat gear easily

1: Buy rares that give the stats you want (I tend to suggest Knights to everyone, as the damage tradeoff is worth it due to basically doubling your durability compared to Zerks). These are cheap. Weapons, then armor, then accessories.

1.5 Grab some gems to put in all of the gear. Runes are nice, but orbs are obscenely cheap, and still give good stats. I’d suggest ruby orbs to make up the crit bonus you lose going Knights.

2: Dungeons. AC Explorable is fine.

Optional: Use the temples in Orr to grab a few pieces if the stats are good.

3: Turn dungeon tokens into armor and coin into weapons.

4: Finish buying armor, trading out your dungeon gear.

An hour and a half a day, for a week, can get you to max stats ignoring ascended gear easily. Less if the Orr Karma temples are open.

Also, sell what you can on the TP. I’ve had 1g on a level 16 by doing this constantly.

1. When you get loot, first from your inventory right click on a piece and choose Sell at the Trading Post. This will put your entire list of things that can sell on the TP on your screen. You will notice a lot of things will instantly sell for a lot more then what a vendor will give you. This is key. Then the things left over that don’t sell higher then a vendor, you sell that at the vendor. You aren’t in a danger though, there is a lot of gold in front of you still before 80. Skip tiers of armor to save money, for example keep it for 10 to 15 levels before upgrading. Around 65-70, use that until 80.

you have two choices. farm gem store (the pathetic choice) or nolife fotm for like a week if you want to make like 40g or something. Quest reward is a legendary joke so don’t expect money from that but you can always farm charged/onyx lodestones. I do farm them often but it IS brain dead because drop rate is LOL. NAnet don’t want us to have money so, yeaaa.

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.
