Dunno if it’s been brought up before. Dunno if ANet has addressed it yet, but it concerns me greatly.

If I let my Ranger check out the path of the Druid, and then decide I don’t care for it, will I be able to return to my Rangerly ways by just dropping the staff and picking up my bow again? Or will I be stuck-outta-luck?

(Of course, the same goes for all the other new Profession incarnations as well.)

I don’t relish the idea of leveling new characters to explore the new content, but I would like it even less if it permanently changed for the worse a character I’ve already spent lots of time developing.

Anybody heard anything?

Yes, just swap out your traits.

I post from a phone so please excuse any references to ducks or any other auto corrections.

You can switch instantly out of combat.

You’ll be able to swap specializations out of combat.

It was part of an interview.

MMORPG: That’s a one-time thing, correct? I’m a ranger, I do my stuff and bam, I’m a druid, I can use druid powers?

CJ: Correct, and then you can swap back and forth, you can say “My character’s a druid, but I’m going to play as a ranger today.” It’s very similar to changing out your skills and traits, you can go in and change whenever you want, as long as you’re out of combat.

Thank you so much for posting that. But can you switch between specs? Like between a druid and whatever the other spec is? I imagine there would be more than one else it’s kind of pointless. Doesn’t seem to say anything in the interview.

All indications are that we start with just one specialization per profession, and that they can add more in later. It does sound to me that when that happens, you will be able to swap around.

Because imagine the flame-storm if people have their alts set up with the only spec available and a new one gets offered a few months (or years) later.

They said that this expansion will only have one specialization per profession but they plan to have more later. Imo, they are doing it this way to see how it works out before they put in multi specializations per profession.

Depending how different they are, it might be like 10 new professions (the 8 for the old professions and the Revenant and its specialization) which is a fair amount of work (new weapons skills, etc).

If you’ve played Guildwars 1 then just think of specializations like having a second profession..

you could swap them around at any point in a town in the first game..

while the two systems will be different the basic concept is the same
