The reason why two-handed weapons only had one Sigil was because it had greater damage than one-handed + off-handed weapons combined.

Now that Arenanet is going to revamp two-handed weapons to have 2 Sigils, will the one-handed and off-handed weapons also get a base damage increase?

I am aware that Sigils are also being completely revamped, but what will be the advantage of actually having one-handed and off-handed weapons now?

It takes someone twice as long to craft two weapons for main-hand and off-hand than it takes to craft a two-handed weapon, and you are saying these combined will still have less base damage than two-handed weapons, while both type of weapons will have the advantage of 2 Sigils?

I think 1h weapons are already “better”, even with the sigil, because of the “versatility” of being able to swap your OH or swap your MH. With 2h, you’re stuck with the 5 weapon skills, with 1h you are not.

If you look at history, what was going to do more damage to you, a two handed sword with more weight to it, or a light cutlass or foil? The kitten things were known to cleave men in two, overhand style.

If you actually look at history, firearms made all martial weapons of war obsolete so we should all just be using pistols and rifles but that would make for a really lame fantasy game.

I cant find any part of history where I can compare a shortbow shooting ghostly rainbow ponies to a pistol shooting out confetti. I dont think we should look at history.

I just mainly don’t like how dual wielding = more expensive when it comes to obtaining them or crafting them. Seems weird to buff 2handed weapons even more. Lotta them have heavy damage and low CDs too. My Guardian for example doesn’t use 2handed weapons so he needs 4 Ascended weapons…. Someone like Warrior using GS/Hammer and Rifle/Bow only needs 2.

As for logic, I always wonder why my Thief’s pistols absolutely suck in damage compared to my bow~ Pistols should be superior.

The only compensation 1-handers should get is reduced crafting cost.

Damage range means nothing when individual weapon skills have different co-efficients, cast time/delay, special effects.

The damage rating associated with the weapon has almost nothing to do with actual damage differences between 1 handed and 2 handed weapons. The rating is just calculated with the skills among other things to get x amount of damage from a skill. I don’t feel 1h would be at a disadvantage compared with 2h weapons when they roll the update around.

2h weapons are actually currently at a disadvantage due to the fact that they don’t have the option for 2 sigil slots and that they don’t have the ability to use offhand weapons to diversify the builds according to the situation.

Besides, having a second sigil available with only increase 2h weapons by a max of 5% extra damage, or extra utility. I’m mainly excited for this so I can slap on double bloodlust sigils to stack faster.

As for crafting….well it kinda sucks, especially for ascended crafting, but that’s the way it is and also for crafting psuedo-legendaries(infinite light) and legendaries.

Turtle – for most classes 1 handed weapons deal MORE damage than 2 handed weapons.
So – there is compensation – look it up. It is because of skill coefficients.

Look those up.
Also versatility.

Pistols and Rifles are anyways the most lame and stupid weapons in this game that should never have been implemented in my opinion at all together with the Engineer.

If I could change that, I’d already turned out the Engineer against either an Alchemist, or Mystic Class which could have been a redesigned hybrid version of Dervish and Ritualist to come up with an alot more fitting Class for GW2, removing Pistols and Rifles out of the game and replacing them with far more interesting and more fitting weapons like:

Crossbows, Chakrams, Whips/Chain Sickles, Flails, Halberds and the like… especially the Chain Sickles i think would ve very neat for the Mystic.

Alot of the pistols and rifles in the game just don’t look like some cheap blackpowder based weapons, but more liek weapons from the future of GW2, far more developed and thats why i despise them so much, they and the whole flair of the engineer never have fitted at all to GW2…
Thats also the reason why the silly Commando was just only an Aprils fools Joke and nothing more, the Engineer is nothing more than a dumbed down version of itto a certain degree – at least you can see directly, where some inspirations were taken from. sadly instead of beign creative by making somethign like the Mystic that I think would have loved all of the Dervish/Ritualist Fans alot more ….

Tbh I wouldnt mind 2h having the exact same damage stats as 1+1h. Having 2 sigils is a better trade.

Ah it is one of those threads again, where the OP has absolutely now clue how damage works in GW2.

Hint: In many cases, the 1h weapons do more damage than the 2h weapons anyway and the damage number on the weapon itself has no meaning in matters to compare weapons to each other, only to compare the same weapons quality.

Giving 2h weapons two slots might bring some of them up to par with 1h weapons, it’s about time.

No.

All combat skills for both one- and two-handed weapons have already been balanced around the current values. There is no reason or need to throw a wrench into all the work that has been (and still needs to be) put into that.

I thus assert they will not change them from the unassailable position of authority that comes from being a Guild Wars 2 player in good standing, which means I cannot possibly be wrong about this or anything else related to the game.

There a list of the best DPS weapons for each professions :
Mesmer : Sword (1 H)
Guardian : Sword (1 H)
Rangers : Sword (1 H)
Warrior : Axe (1 H)
Thief : Dagger (1 H)

For Necromancer i don’t really know, i don’t really play that profession.
For engineer its a kit so..

Is there any one handed weapon that doesnt outdps two handers?

Elementalist Staff is the best personal dps. S/x is for might stack and not DPS and anyway in that build you use a LH for dps which is an 2 H weapons. I also suppose that suboptimal weapons can do that too. For exemple on a Guardian, a Greasword to more dps that a Mace or Scepter. But these are not the BEST dps weapons on that profession.

I daresay that dagger provides way more dps than axe for Necros; provided they manage to stay up close to the target. I think the highest dps in an organized speedrun-group for Necros can be done with spoj’s build (to be found somewhere in the Necro-forums and in his signature). Attempts with some more survivability involve axe… Nemesis made some guides for builds like that for example.

But yeah, to stay more on topic… it indeed seems like the only profession where the highest possible dps isn’t on a one-handed weapon, is Elementalist. And well, Engineer kinda (Bombs, Grenades, or maybe Rifle with Static Discharge).

The only part of a weapon’s damage range that matters is the variance – axes have a greater maximum and lower minimum damage than daggers, but the same average, for example. This leads to the DPS in practice for an axe being much more variable, where within a given combat it’s possible to be lucky and hit consistently high, unlucky and hit consistently low, or just average luck and hit the middle. Meanwhile a dagger has a much tighter range and good luck or bad luck with damage rolls doesn’t have as much of an impact.

The difference between the average damage of 1H and 2H weapons is already compensated for, in the damage co-efficients for each skill. Or rather, that difference simply doesn’t matter. As has been stated, most professions perform best with !H weapons, in spite of the 1H weapons having a lower average base damage.

Following the sigil change, there will still be one major benefit to 1H weapons – you get more flexibility in that you choose 1-3 skills and 4-5 skills separately, and you can choose different stat spreads for each hand.
