Guild Wars 2

I noticed that Shields have no real preference of play. I love wielding shields and using them for a nice beefy and stunhappy build although neither Guardians or Warriors use them to any effect. They have high cooldowns with traits, low performance skills and only provide a miniscule amount of traited protection.

Will Shields be addressed in later patches?

Shields are widely used by guardians in pvp………

As a warrior I’m happy with my shield skills. Shield Bash could use some work but Shield Stance is most likely the best block skill in the game and more then make up for Shield Bash’s shortcomings in my opinion. As a defense-oriented kind of player I always carry my shield on my warrior.

Now for guardians it’s another story. It’s not that the skills are bad but they are not shield-like AT ALL. Guardians can’t even block with their shields which I find a bit silly. But they can with a focus??? I think the devs should swap the skillsets of those kinds weapons, I think it would be a better fit for both.

Engi shield is amazing. So much versatility on only 2 abilities.

i was a greatsword warrior and never intended to use shield until my first run in dungeon. The first engage i knew i need something else to survive.

Then i brought a sword and shield on the next try. I was satisfied by the stun and block, it saved me and my team from wipe a lot of time. Not to mention that i have 0 point in defense trait, i use shout heal or regen banner instead. For warrior shield skill i don’t mind some buff but even it stays, it is totally useful in the right hand.

Guardians do not use them to any effects? The associated skills can be life savers in dungeons and other tougher content. No idea about Warriors, but I played a pistol/pistol engineer since launch and just switched to shield last week. It is amazing, a lot of fun and probably improved my performance by 20 percent. those are situational skills that require good reaction time and an idea when to use them to greatest effect. If their recharge time was reduced by a larger amount, I´d be probably unkillable in pve – so rather not buff them much.

Engi here: Between pistol and rifle I couldn’t care less but my shield is soooo awesome. 2 skills with big versatility, just can’t live without them. Actually the only times I come out of a kit is to use my shield skills.

So the answer is NO, at least for engi.

the only things stupid here are worn out, endlessly reiterated tolkinian clichés.

Guardians you’re better off with a focus. I mean when a little piece of magical junk can block and your shield can’t..

Yet in the end the shield actually still offers more protection and control compared to the focus. People need to treat the block issue and the usefulness of the shield separately.

I like the metallic gong on my Engineer shield. I also like to think for Engineer at least the shield skills are pretty powerful.

and there is nothing more satisfying in this game than reflecting several thousands points of damage back at a dungeon boss
