I have made 1 profession of every class except warrior! I’m currently waiting on tengu to become playable so i can make a kitten tengu warrior!!! (I have had this idea since release lol)But i have a feeling tengu might not make it in cause of the focus on living story. What do you guys think? I dont expect to hear from anet cause that would be a big reveal.

I’d give it a punchers chance. The Dominion of Winds sits on the doorstep of LA and Calderon Forest so you have the starter area covered . They have pretty good lore too . The biggest set back i imagine would be armor and beginning story lines .

I’m pretty sure that there will be no set back. It wouldn’t surprise me if they already have it all done and are waitig for a good time and a good living story to add it.

I consider adding the Tengu race as playable characters to be the measure of if they can do big things with the living story or not. Sadly, as time goes on I see nothing that makes me think that they can pull it off within the LS structure they have made. Nor do they seem willing to step aside from that structure for any reason.

Unless we hear of a major shake-up at ANet, I would consider all new races and classes to be completely off the table. If things change so it CAN happen, you’ll then still have the development time to get it ready.

In short, if you’re waiting for Tengu… give up. They won’t be here any time soon, if ever.

LS doesn’t mean they can’t add new maps/races, I think about LS as a big expansion being divided in very small updates, they would still release all content that would come with an expansion, but slower.

Armour actually wouldn’t be that much of a set back. Tengu use the same models as Charr, so all existing armour should theoretically fit on them I think.

i would honestly pay real money to be a Tengu, i don’t know anything about their lore, but i always wanted to play as a birdman, i am a theme type of person, and the bonus to this aside from my personal themes, would be to learn about Tengu lore, and to have new maps to play on, and more things to experience all round.

Perhaps that is the reason why they haven’t been released yet. Maybe that is what is being worked on. We have no way of knowing either way unless Anet decides to shine some light. All we can say is they haven’t been released yet.

And to all the naysayers, Have faith. Until it’s released and done well or not so good, anything is possible in MMO land. Shouldn’t ever use the word NEVER unless it’s set in stone. MMO’s are an ever evolving medium, so anything can change.

I would expect around summer, where GW2 is thinking about having the China server launch. We started with Zhaitan , my guess is they are starting with Primordus. That and Tengu’s talk about destroyer attacks in the dominion of the winds AND i heard dataminers found evidence of a broken Tengu wall. But with all these speculation, it can mean anything. I’m just adding the puzzle pieces together.

The tengu use the same mesh as the Charr, so they’d get the same armour as the charr.

It’s funny how people said the same thing about the Charr. 250 years have passed since the Searing, and many still don’t want to roll a Charr character. Conflicts just add interest to lore of the race, and it’s a fact that many people would like to play Tengu (myself included).

They’ve been warning people not to get too close to the wall since the game was released, if you’re stupid enough to still approach the wall despite that warning, don’t cry because they finally decided to actually do so. From the top of the wall it would be difficult to see who’s approaching, safest option is to just defend from anything just in case it’s hostile.

Yes, that the players will have little to no problems with this is one thing. From a lore point of view though? We see it with the charr already. Opposition against peace with the charr is not exactly a minor thing and without the queen that would never happen, and even she gets a lot of flak for it.

But this, let me go hyperbole for a moment and call it the “Slaughter of Lion’s Arch” at the tengus walls is a thing that is not just for humans relevant. heavens know how many died in Scarlets onslaught that could have saved by a quick retreat route through the tengu gate? Members of every race died that day because they chose to stick to their isolation instead of offering help.

So who would vouch for them this time? The Queen?
The charr high command?
The pale tree?
The captain’s council?

Who of them would have enough balls AND influence to call for peace and acceptance with the tengu, after they chose their isolation over the death of civilians by the thousands?

This issn’t ascalon. the human realm has long since fallen into dust and ruin, with Ebonhawk still staring daggers at the charr. If ascalon were still around, we’d have a major faction throwing a potentially war burdened tantrum for even considering peace with the charr, on a scale like the flame legion.

Now try to imagine the day the tengu approach us for help, assistance or even just a trade agreement. if Lion’s Arch is to be rebuild, do you think any citizen or member of the captain’s council would actually choose to listen other then giving them the finger and tell them to kitten off after what happened?

None of the factions have anything to do with the tengu. There will be no one to speak for them. No one to stand up and support the alliance for the greater good. There simply is no base of trust. If there was any, it died in the fires of Lion’s Arch.

A mesmer is more then clones and trickery.

You’re talking as if thousands have been massacred by the tengu. From what I see, only previously warned players have been shot by the tengu.

They people who’re shouting the Tengu should burn are most likely the people who chose to ignore the warning and walked up to the wall, died, and had to pay for WP and repairs.
So in the end, people are calling for a whole race to be destroyed, because they themselves ignored warnings that had been in the game since launch, and because of their own stupidity lost a few silver.

No wonder we haven’t achieved universal peace yet.

It’s a more then likely scenario. When your house burns and the closest exit of the city leads towards the wall, will go there and look for shelter, or take the long way through the burning city to reach the exit, through fire, poison, krait and dredge?

Will YOU have the calm head and remember the warnings, or keep faith in tengumanity and hope for shelter while everything you call dear and home is razed to the ground?

We may have not seen the NPCs run there, but you tell me how this is not a likely thing to happen? People jump from the windows of a burning building into certain death when it seems the only way out. Unless proven otherwise, it is a rather reasonable assumption that there should be a fair share of citizens piling up near the wall.

I don’t think the current behaviour of the Tengu will have much affect on whether they will be playable
Them shooting players who get too close… it’s just a way of “not ignoring them” without forcing them into a story before they are ready to be introduced.

It could easily be addressed by future updates/story etc.
-they could be ahving further problems with destroyers that are more important as they are inside the city
-they might not be able to tell us apart from Scarlet’s hoardes, and thus not want to take the slightest risk
-they are alrady extremely untrusting of other races and isolationist: why would they help?
-there may be small factions within the city wishing to help, but either aren’t powerful enough or are too few to make a difference

I’m personally really, really hoping to see them as a playable race…

If there’s a giant wall that’s never been opened, I don’t think I’ll take my chances. And who knows, maybe they actually tried to let in civilians but then Scarlet’s goons arrived at the wall and killed some of their people, which in turn made them decide to defend the wall at all costs. Maybe they’re trying to defend a bunch of helpless civilians on the other side of the wall, you don’t know, nobody does (except for Anet).

I do love the excuses you are coming up with, desperately trying to justify the tengu so they might remain an option as a playable race.

Ultimately this little action demonstrates why they can never be on par with the other races. Their isolationist culture would never allow them to ally with the necessary races and work together with the others. Without some serious retconning and loretwisting.

Given the choice to be heroes and save as many civilians as you can or hide behind the safety and security of the wall. The playable characters/races choose the former, the tengu picked the latter.
It’s just that simple, they are not heroes.
