Having achievement points in dailies means that new players can never get to high places in the leaderboard, this means that people will be discouraged from buying the game in the future.
Probably since the whole point of dailies is to get people to log in every day and that’s one main part of the motivation.

yes and while it seem like a good idea in the short term (i mean it really works) in the long term they will get less new players
I don’t think this is necessarily true. The older players who have run out of content, need a reason to keep logging in. This is it. Newer players have an entire game to play from day one. I’m not sure most newer players buy a game and expect to be on the leaderboards…at least a noncompetitive game.
In other words, if I were just starting today, I’d have an entire world and all the dungeons to do, plus the living story stuff, which keeps coming out. It’s the people who are here since the beginning that need to be kept artificially busy.

however if i went to play wow then i could know that some day however far off i could reach somewhere near the top

Near the top of WHAT? A leaderboard for achievement points that give no in game bonus?
If you actually care about being on a leaderboard for pressing buttons in a video game and getting achievement points, then you probably also are the type of person who thinks those who’ve been playing longer are automatically better. So I guess I don’t see the conflict.
But seriously who cares? Achievement points don’t really mean much of anything other than "I did stuff. woo!"
I don’t think that not being on the top of an achievement point leaderboard would ever discourage anyone from buying an MMO.
That being said one time living story events, that new players won’t be able to do award far more achievement points than dailies.
I’m in the top 400 on the leaderboards right now (376 as I type this but it’ll go down soon lol). And I’ve been against dailies being in the leaderboards since day one. But I know Anet is not likely to change this.
What they can do is make a secondary leaderboard that doesn’t have dailies in it at all. This will give the benefit of allowing people a chance to get onto the leaderboard.
On the other hand, even if they did this, Mirta is right. Brand new players won’t be able to get the Flame and Frost achievements, and in a week or two they won’t be able to get the Southsun achievements.
So it would sort of being a pointless exercise anyway.
and they never be able to get the old events and festival points…
a leaderboard on achievement point is just that pointless
Pointless except it does keep older players logging in, which is a reason to have them.
