Will character creation ever get updated?
I feel like no matter how extreme I may get with sliders I never vary too far from the base face I’ve chosen to edit.
Having seen some works of horror that resulted from allowing for extremes in other games I assume this was ANet’s way of avoiding that.

Exactly what the Devs have stated in the past.

I don’t care if other people create works of horror as long as I can make a character to my liking. It’s the same argument as with clipping armor sets: If it looks bad, trust that people are going to avoid it (except for some trolls).
The majority of players wants either a character that looks like them, or a character that they like looking at. In a different game I played it was possible to set the scale for all body parts to 0, to reduce them to a small line. You could essentially play as a flying pair of boobs. Did anyone play as a flying pair of boobs? No, at least not for long, because it looks ugly.
Before we add any sliders we need a way to save and load character appearances!
For GW2 I’d like more sliders for the face and the existing sliders should have a wider range. Next I’d like sliders for the body and hair. Especially the hair sliders could create a lot of diversity. And lastly a tool to directly edit the face mesh. The tool should have brushes for smoothing, increasing, decreasing, moving, etc. Also a checkbox for symmetrical edit and an extensive undo/redo heap. For those that play modded Skyrim: something like the RaceMenu mod.
I kinda like it the way it is… don’t see a need for such big changes as you want.
Sure the sliders could do a little bit more and a few other little things.
But unlike you I do care that monstrosities from character creation does not exist in this very aestheticly pleasing game.
Ok, I have to admit that my suggestion was overkill. But I still think we could use more sliders for stuff that currently isn’t customizable like hair and body parts.
Also other games went the extra mile and added an expert mode for character creation. It’s usually normal mode = you can’t really create unrealistic stuff, but you will hit some boundaries if you try to create a specific style. Expert mode = You can actually create characters that are really close to what you envisioned, but if you don’t pay attention you might create an abomination.
I still don’t think that people creating abominations on purpose would be a problem. Simply because the trolls that would actually do that are too few. How many people do you see in GW2 with hair clipping through the outfit or the outfit clipping through the back piece? GW2 does have these unaesthetic combinations, but no one chooses them.
I’d like to see a little more in depth stuff. Like others said nothing that allows flying pairs of boobs but maybe something that has slider for hip width, shoulder width and maybe one to vary torso and leg length but still with boundaries to not allow outrageous things.
Perhaps more control on hair color, like with that panel you get in some games and you can drag around it for different shades of different colors.
And one of those for eye color too along with light to dark makeup slider of the chosen face.
And yes, flipping hairstyles would be nice.
Maybe they could bring these kinda things with the next expansion, defo encourage me to buy it.
I don’t mind the lack of structural changes to characters (That would require a whole lot of overhauling not just character creation, but character generation).
I would, however, love to have full access to our dyes on character creation and for hair accessories, and be able to access our wardrobe to select a starting appearance (Especially so I can screencap the last few frames of the character creation introduction cutscene thing)
lol, you expect freedom? freedom are not for us, we’re allowed to get only what they think is right, our opinions don’t matter, never forget this kids.

OK that made me laugh, but only because it’s so true.
Bleh I hate being told how to look what size my body parts must be, what type/style of armor/cloths I must wear, what kind of dance I must do if I wanna dance, what kind of skills I must use, what kind of game mode I must play, where I must play, how I must play, when I must win, when I must lose, and so on. WHY can’t I be free to be me?!?!?! Freedom and diversity and options are GOOD things not bad things. But oh well, lets all just be carbon copy robots then. We can be free & diverse & creative in real life(to a certain extent).
I’m happy with everything the current Character Creation has, except two things:
1) Bald female.
2) Human tattoos.
I still find it lame that the new facial. hair style and exclusive colours are only available ONLY when you using a makeover kit!
I just find it really lacking that the non human and norn races got limited facial and hair style like why only 9/10 for Asura hairdo?
It would be great that the new added stuff are there at the start and not from using the ki. I mean I would still used the kit anyway when I want to readjust my existing characters apperance!
Id like more customization options as well, in the end the face you chose will look like the same face but altered slightly and you run into 1000 other people with the same look.
But I love 100% customization in a game and that’s how games get my money. Gw2 is 45% customization when it comes to making beautiful or ugly characters (aside from armor) because there are already ugly faces that exist and beautiful ones, you can only go one of two ways, uglier or even more pretty.
No need for crazy sliders that will make the faces etc clip with themselves…
But….
I wouldn’t mind more choosable options among the race specific ones such as:
- More hors for charr – antlers inspired, ram inspired, and Gazelle inspired
- The ability to choose color of charr’s horns
- More fur patterns
- More tattoos for norn
- New ear designs for asura with ear-rings etc
- Tattoos for humans
- More beard options/Makeup for humans
And the equivalence for other races… - Theability to use u’r dye-pool when choosing color for hair acsessory
Those are the things I’ve wanted to see for ages by now – anyone else?
