I’d put my bets on a 1-hour 50% exp booster, a 1k-karma consumable and an unidentified dye as a birthday gift.
Don’t expect anything you would still care about after 2 days of owning it.
Johnson says yes…

Alongside the new content, Johanson explained players could expect to receive a present on their character’s birthday, as was the case in the original Guild Wars. While Guild Wars 1 saw players usually receive mini pets on character birthdays, it’s unclear just what members of Guild Wars 2’s community will be gifted.
Although I’m confused by this statement. Does it mean that all characters share the same ‘birthday’ and it’ll be on the 28th? Or, does it mean that on the date the character was made/created (which kind of alienates late comers to the game, making them wait until the time in which they joined the game)? I’m sure it’s probably the former, but still curiosity peaks….

A bit on the pessimistic side, aren’t we?
After all, players who gem purchased early on in the game’s life got a free mini pet pack from Dragon Bash. And those who purchased gems in Spring got a free random kite toy. So those are perks that they’ve given out for free, that they really didn’t have to.
I’m going to think that the new Anniversary gift will probably be a mini pet (or pets) that’s going to be a Quaggan with a birthday hat on and a party whistle. Either that, or a mini Zhaitan.

You will receive the gift exactly one year after the creation date of your character. This is the same way it worked as in GW1. The later you made the character the longer you need to wait.

ok all my text got eaten…
You will get the present 1 year after the creation of your character. The later you made the character the later you get the gift. This is how it worked in GW1.
The date the char was made, is that chars ‘birthday’ and will receive a gift on that day. Just like in GW1.

None of the events we had in the past year had any exciting rewards… some toy, a mini, gloves that don’t fit with any armor…. meh. There were a few decent things but always behind a big wall of RNG. I don’t expect anything else from this update.

People like different things. I like minis for example. Obviously, you don’t. So while I was content with a mini reward for my 6 achievement meta, I’m guessing you probably wanted something else… Just personal preference. I’m sure some people will like the birthday gifts, and others wont. It was the same in GW1. Some collected the minis, some could have given a kitten less and sold theirs.
Your gift will of course be an RNG box, the items in it will be soulbound and you only get one per account! Extra gift boxes will be available at the Gem store for a nominal fee. A bit cynical perhaps but…..

Rather predictable, isn’t it?
Won’t happen but I want a scelerite weapon for my character’s birthday (or a ticket for any of the previous limited time weapons….but mostly a scelerite)
If we get birthday minis, that’s fine too I suppose.

Yes it should be that all characters get birthday presents on the 28th to not alienate them.
Just like everyone should get a present on your own birthday so that they don’t feel alienated because they would otherwise have to wait til their birthday to receive a gift.
See how your logic fails here?
