Title says it all. We had one for Halloween. Is ArenaNet planning a Thanksgiving event? Will there be a giant Turkey boss? Will there be pumpkin pie?

Seriously though, ArenaNet have stated there won’t be a Thanksgiving event, the next event is Wintersday.

In GW1 they did pumpkin pie drops for Thanksgiving, but that was it. I doubt they’d have a major event for Thanksgiving without announcing it in advance, especially given that Thanksgiving is an American holiday.

Well, there will be one at my house – smelling my pumpkin pie as we speak.

I don’t know that I have seen a Thanksgiving event in the MMO’s I play, usually an Autumn Fest or some such. Would be funny to see some risen turkeys tho …

Well, it’s nothing huge in GW1, but there is a small celebration of eating goods.

Then there’s this part in the Chris Whiteside blog:

We also want take the opportunity to talk a little bit about what we have coming into the game soon from a high-level standpoint, an aperitif if you like before our Thanksgiving celebrations.

The “our Thanksgiving celebrations” is what makes me wonder. Was he talking about ‘our celebrations’ as in the American people, or ‘our celebrations’ as in the the GW2 community?

I don’t see why not. Of course probably not this year as it would take more time to get it ready.

But it doesn’t have to be Thanksgiving. It can be simply Harvest Festival, Turkey Day, or even Autumn Festival or something on those lines. In WoW it is called Pilgrim’s Bounty.

I mean we already have Wintersday, which is Christmas with a different name and different lore (kind of). So I see no reason why we can’t have “Harvest Festival”.

LoTRO had a Harvestmath Festival in the Shire. Fit perfectly in that game btw, not sure why this is the first time they did it. But they had it months ago, probably coz Riders of Rohan was about to come out in October.

I read that too and thought “Oh, maybe we’ll get the return of the Special Treats Weekend”

Obviously it was never anything much but it was nice to get a bunch of pie and booze over the weekend.

I think “our Thanksgiving celebrations” refers to the facts:

- The company is based in the US.
- The US observes Thanksgiving as a holiday.
- The offices are probably only going to be at a skeleton staff that day.
- Hence by “our Thanksgiving celebrations” they mean “before we go spend time with our families and away from work issues”.
