I am obviously going to point the finger at the mmo I left to come and play GW2. They had a way for me to see my achievement and characters on their website instead of having to be in the game.

Is Anet working on or thinking about providing this functionality too so we can see our achievements on the site?

I do not know but I hope so. If ArenaNet were to include this, it would help the players a lot!

I would love to see an armory type page for GW2. I would also love to see a WvW page that would show an up to date snapshot of a each Tier. Warhammer had a page like that and I would track progress at work. Kept me interested during the day and looking even more forward to jumping in and helping out when I got home.

I thought you were gonna suggest a system where you saved your armor and weapon skins in an in-game armory, for reuse any time you wanted. That would be great. It sucks having to get another of the same stat exotic just because you don’t want to lose a particular skin.

why this isnt wow and at 80 all the stats are the same,

and you couldent figure out what skin it is so i dont think it fits in this game.

As top level stats are all on the same level, why bother — just like on the builder sites: its a just a piece of exotic 80 <type> armor and most of player will know what that means.

But on a “web page”? that’s behind the times. From an android app, I can see all characters, locations, assets, skills, training que, market stock, transaction records, buy/sell orders and much much much more in EVE. Soooo… web page? Nothing I’ve heard of.

Oh yeah, they do that too. In some/many guilds(corps) in EVE, they want your key before you join, they look through your stuff and read all your emails etc. haha!

Can’t tell if serious or troll, because I don’t play EVE.
Looks nice though, wish it was more Homeworld and less spreadsheet compiler elite edition 5000.

As long as there is no linkage with the forums in any way shape or form. So you would have to look up stuff by character name and not by our account names to make sure the Armory doesn’t bleed over to the forums. Perhaps make it so we can only see our own characters and cannot see anybody else’s, that would be even better.

They want to add the ability to allow a player to fully inspect another player (gear, traits, skills and real time skill usage) in SPvP, so that spectators can see.

If they’re going to go the eSport route, like leaderboards, they’ll probably create a site similar to an armory, and also show stats like wins/losses, kills/deaths, captures, supports, recent games, games played, etc. I’d expect it to only be for PvP though, however, since the core of an armory for PvP vs PvE would be nearly identical, PvE would probably also be included.

I play many mmo’s and since the mid 90’s. MUD’s before that. Also a lot of indie mmo’s including working on some and their tools, and MUD programming before that. But the point was, web page info/linking is kind of superseded by api’s. Most likely 100% of gw2 players have smart phones, and a mobile app is far more optimized for modern usage. The devs don’t even need to develop the apps, only set up the api and key system, the players make the apps. It’s also hack proof, unlike web pages…

edit in: also, a good point, you can choose what you want other people to see. So, if you choose to show item:1, item:2 but not item:3 (of many items), you can choose what you want to show when making the api key and leave out what you don’t want shown. You can make full access keys showing everything, or limited keys that show little and only what you want shown. Then you give out your key and/or enter it into an app that reads it from the gw2 api site. Show what’s in your bank, show whats in you inventory, show what skills you have or what ever you want to show or not show. It’s not some ridged webpage where you have little to no options. API’s make something like a web armory look like 15 year old technology, because it is.

Please, we don’t need these kitten measurement dictatorship style features in the game. It’s bad enough that Leaderboards have Achievements when they should only be a measurement of the e-sport sPvP and the WvWvW server ranking.

I advocated against this in RIFT, which in the end chose to foster the same gear-centric haves-have nots culture that Jeff Kaplan used to shame and belittle WoW players who did not embrace his self-focused implementation of content.

Anything that can be abused to negatively impact the community in GW2 will not be viewed as a welcome addition to the many players who joined the game to get away from the social issues inherent with WoW’s gear-centric culture.

Pointless functionality really, the armory was a nice gimmick but I wouldn’t expect it before the game is 4 years old, just like the game you left didn’t have it for 4 years.

Armory was used too much to exclude, to force people into a narrow set of gear if you wanted to PUG with them.

In this game a really good player in 80 greens can far outplay a less skilled player who’s bought exotics.

I am really, really concerned that putting any sort of Armory or gearscore or such into this game will invite a repeat of the negative social consequences of WoW’s design.

Separately, and again unlike WoW, there is still a diversity of specs and gear choices in this game. Best practices are not so obvious, and depend on the individual player’s strengths and weaknesses. Not everyone is smart enough to tell the difference between “unusual but brilliant” and “a really stupid suboptimal spec”. I don’t want people’s “unusual but brilliant” specs given away — they take a lot of work to evolve — and also don’t want the very large number of players used to WoW’s cattle chute to exclude unconventional specs here in GW2.

Which isn’t WoW, as we all recall from introduction.

So my vote is “no” to inspect, armory, gearscore, and any other artifacts of WoW stratification, have/have-not, and exclusion.

I do not want to give the elitist more tools than they already have.
If someone is only interested in going for a “supermega leet fast run” they should do it in their own little group. Not abuse other people for it. (And yes, people will abuse those with the “wrong” gear).

I’d love to see this sort of feature in game – I’d like to see builds of best players, I’d like to show me friends my character even without logging into the game… and guys – it wouldn’t be just about armor/weapon sets, e.g. you can see how far is your friend progressing fractals, or which paths of exploration dungeons he has successfully made. I really enjoyed using Armory while I was playing WoW and I’d love to see it in Guild Wars 2.

And I can say, if this happens, all my toons are getting deleted. I hated that crap about WoW. If I liked it, I’d be playing WoW.

You can see accounts at the moment, and you can’t search for specific accounts. Achivement points doesn’t even tell people anything about how good someone is. So groups that decides who to take with them based on that is a group I would stay away from anyway.

It is already quite possible to see someones Achivement points ingame, so I don’t really see why this specific case with be an issue.

There won’t ever be a gear score in this game. Leaderboards are one thing, but think about it. Anet isn’t even letting people in WvW see other player’s names. I don’t think this leaderboard is anything like a gear score and if could be used that way, I don’t think Anet will put it in.

They’re making something competitive out of something that’s just fun, that’s all.
