Will unlocked skills remain unlocked?
Skills are part and parcel of the reward track for the groups. I wouldn’t unlock anything that you’re not going to be using in the near future, since the new system will be a complete rework of the old. You should read Dulfy’s summary of the livestream or watch the first ~5 minutes of it to get a better idea of how it will function.

Because we can’t be angry about both?
I don’t think they actually said. If you already have an L80 character with 65 skill challenges completed, you’ll be able to unlock the core the first day of the new system, regardless of whether we have to “unlock again.”
Characters below L80 at the time of the release might have to unlock them again.
It’s unclear what provisions, if any, ANet has made (or will be making) to take into account characters that spent gold to unlock traits or sub L80 toons that used skill point scrolls to unlock skills. My guess is that the skill points will be refunded as the new mystic materials currency and that ANet hasn’t figured out what to do about gold from traits.
Hopefully they will remain unlocked unlike the luminescent gear which is currently locked behind a broken achievement that anet has done nothing to fix in over a month.

They announced they are working on a fix. This isnt the right thread for that.
i doubt we will keep them unlocked however. it would be nice, but with a complete redesign coming through i could understand them relocking them. Annoying, yes, but i could see it happening.

Well they’ve been working on it for over a month now and it’s still currently unatainable as it has been for the past month. I’m not sure why you say this is not the correct thread for this? I related it back to the OP.
My comments on another thread about this:
All 8 of my characters were created shortly after launch (pre-NPE) but about half were leveled almost exclusively in WvW (or EoTM more recently, a couple languished at low levels for years). Their skills were unlocked by additional levels of XP beyond 80 and skill point scrolls.
Due to a lack of PvE/world exploration on those characters, when the new system comes out they will not have enough ‘hero points’ to unlock all of the 5 trait lines + all skills which I have unlocked right now.
Anet needs to provide some extra hero points for grandfathered characters so that players who have earned their unlocks through non-PvE methods aren’t screwed. Make the boost proportional to the % of traits & skills unlocked at expansion release.

Because, we dont unlock skills through achievements in this system. we unlock them through Hero points. Which we get from doing skill challenges, and leveling. Not even relatable to the bug you described. As for your bug, rangers had to wait 2 months for a bug fix, on their class mechanic. So yea, you might have another month wait.

This is a decent solution. I have 12 characters, i leveled all my 80s(10 of them) through PvE, most have about 45 skill challenges already. But If a character has all skills unlocked now, they should get all the skills unlocked under the new system when it goes live.

2 months to fix their basic class mechanics??? holy crap
when i used to play wow it always seemed like bugs were addressed asap. I was wondering what was the deal with the month wait.
I’m figuring since it’s so different that existing characters will get a pile of points based on something and we all get to respec our characters.

Not everyone agrees with you there. People on the WoW forums complain about the speed of bug fixes there too.
How long for bug fix
“Minor bugs can take years to fix, heck even major game breaking bugs won’t be fixed if it’s not “current content”. There were bugs in the game prior to cataclysm that had been there since vanilla, and was “fixed” by the content being removed once Deathwing went mental over the place.
Don’t expect fast bug patches from Blizzard."
Tldr: all games take a long time to fix bugs, not just ANet.

I can’t think of a single bug in all the years I played wow that prevented players from completing the current content that took greater than a month to address.
I understand that smaller bugs could take awhile to fix, but a bug preventing players from completing the most current content? Nah, blizzard would hotfix that overnight it would always seem.

Before you guys tell me to go back to WoW.. I don’t want to. That’s why I’m not playing it anymore. I want to play GW2, but I’d also like for them to fix the achievement preventing me from completing current content.
Thanks.

This is getting off topic, but a difference is, all the content in this game is current content, which means all the bugs that occur, hit current content and need to be fixed. Wow could afford to ignore all content that was not current and bugged. That alone makes less fixes for them. They also have a several BILLION a year income, unlike this game which makes waaayyyy less money, which means less money to hire people to fix bugs. More money to fix bugs and ignoring bugs that aren’t current made it easier and faster for them to fix current bugs faster then ANet.
ANet may give it to you.

Oh, well I ment “current content” as the most current content added to the game. LS2, Silverwastes, and the corresponding achievements are the most current content.
The meta for the current content is currently unobtainable due to a bug that anet has admittedly known about for over a month and yet some kind of solution has yet to be implemented (even a temporary workaround if they are unable to fix the bug directly). Literally nothing has been done and it took them 3 weeks+ to even aknowledge that the bug existed on the forums (there is a 15+ page post about it you can see it took them a long time to even let us know they were “working on it”)
Thanks again =)
Or, you could stop high-jacking threads, which really isn’t fair to the OP. =)
It is always best to post your issue in the proper thread, so those Devs that can address the issue see it.
Good luck.
I don’t think they actually said. If you already have an L80 character with 65 skill challenges completed, you’ll be able to unlock the core the first day of the new system, regardless of whether we have to “unlock again.”
Characters below L80 at the time of the release might have to unlock them again.
I’m not sure they will. The reason they say an 80 with 65 skill challenges done will have enough is that the 80 has gotten full hero points from leveling to 80. Someone who’s leveled to 70 would have 10 less hero points, but then they could have done 75 skill challenges to make up for that.
I think you can’t unlock the Elite Specialization until you are 80, but that is only an impression I have with no specific memory of hearing that said by devs. Whenever you unlock it you’ll want more challenges done on top of the 65, I’m guessing 35 more at least to cover the cost of the line. Except the hero points also pay for skills and those might need unlocks as well as the traits.
I’ve just taken notes on how many world skill points each of my alts has. The total available now is 189, btw, I’m assuming there are more to gather in WvW for those so inclined. Looks like I have quite a few alts that need to trot about the world doing skills.
