On the head start, a name I used in every BWE was “reserved,” but I don’t think it really was. Because it was a first and last name I’m sure no one would use unless they saw me in game with it and liked it. So I named my character the same name, with one extra letter.

Now that reserved names are available, I made another character real quick to see if my original name was there, and I was able to use it. I know that if ANet does decide to do this, it’ll be low priority compared to other things, but it would be nice.

I had a name in the BWEs which I loved.

It was Thomas Mutton. Now since I couldn’t use that name when the game released because it was reserved, I had to take something else, and now I love this name I got now, Godric Holt.

Now I could take the name Thomas Mutton.

I still love the name Thomas Mutton, but I think I will give another character that name

I got around this by giving my Charr characters dumb names. After I create them I look at their features and give them a name based on that.

Charr Guardian = Snow Spot

Charr Warrior = Mist Strype

No one in their right mind would want those names.

Minor point but if you couldn’t use it until reserved names were freed up that mean it really was reserved. However unlikely it seems at least one person did want the same name as you.

As for name changes they haven’t said anything but I assume it will be available at some point, probably through the gem store.
