Most power based builds will probably be nerfed due to ascended armor if they want to keep the game balanced. This is due to the fact that gear does not scale correctly.

By increasing stats by 5% across the board their scaling problems become very evident. For example that 5% stat increase gives people wearing zerker gear a 17% damage boost.

On the other hand that same 5% stat boost only gives condition damage users a 5.1% damage boost.

Defensive stats scale even worse and the 5% stat boost only increases their defense by 3-4%.

So if they want to keep the game balanced all zerker based builds will need to be nerfed by 11-13% in order to keep all builds at the same level as before ascended gear.

I doubt it will happen though, they will just leave the power gap be.

I disagree competly. They cant leave 90 % of players in the dark either.if they nerf direct damage by build would be obsolete without ascended and ascended was allways meant to be a slight diffrence not a large one. So yes i disagree it would be a to large gap to anet to do so. they’l prolly add it and rather make some 50-60 fractals if im gonna guess

If they haven’t nerfed damage builds already they probably aren’t going to do anything crazy. I think their approach is to make new encounters less dependent on damage (Think about how Mai Trin works and how it devalues damage and the Subject 6 boss in the Reactor actually punishes you if you attack him too long). I’ve already found myself swapping out damage gear for PVT on some fights because it’s just not as important as staying alive.

I think they’ll continue releasing encounters that either halt DPS and force you to stay alive for some time or devalue DPS in some way. It’ll be a indirect nerf to damage but not as severe as an across the board stat change or balance change.

I agree with the revamping of encounters in PVE but that doesn’t address the power creep in WvW. While I understand that the realm battle game mode wont ever be balanced I do think they will have to watch crazy DPS in that mode closely so it doesn’t get too out of hand. Although even if they do adjust the damage it will most likely be a blanket cap on direct damage upon entering the mode.

Nerfing power builds into the ground means :

At non-ascended levels power builds will be unjustly nerfed.
There’s less incentive to get ascended gear.
They won’t do it. At best – other types of gear will be buffed.

If here they fall they shall live on when ever you cry “For Ascalon!”

What you said is absolutely FALSE. Condition damage has a HARD cap of 25 STACKS. It’s fine if its one player putting conditions, but when its 2 players stacking conditions they are handicapping each other in doing so. In a zerg its even worse, you are essentially doing CRAP. Everyone and their mother knows that Power builds are OP compared to condition builds due to the hard cap of 25 stacks in a zerg setting. Plus a ton of mobs have very shortened durations on conditions!

Power damage is independent of any other player actions whereas condition damage is GREATLY affected by how many other people are applying the same conditions.

Defensive stats are viable at the moment – they mean you’re forgiven MORE mistakes if you’re not dodging / evading right – but they shouldn’t be made that you’ll be able to circumvent dodging entirely because " I AM FULL TANK AND HAVE TONS OF REGEN".

No, I don’t believe there will be any nerfs to be concerned about. In any game with vertical progression, you must balance the game around an ever-increasing power level. If the environment doesn’t match the power level of the players the game will become trivial and unsatisfying. I believe that buffs are the thing to be concerned about if anything (to the environment), and especially for those who have chosen not to pursue ascended gear.

I’m not sure where you are getting your information. Condition users use at least 3 stats"

Condition damage
Condition duration
Precision

The problem is that Anet hardcapped duration and the total number of stats. This is why duration and precision to some extent are mostly ignored. With a hard cap on duration there is no reason to put it on your gear. With a hard cap on stacks there is no reason to have much duration at all since it just makes you reach the cap faster. Same for precision, it makes you reach the cap faster which does nothing after the cap.

If duration cap was removed and stack limit was removed then the best gear for condition users would be Condition Damage, Condition Duration, Precision.

And power builds actually use 4 stats, not 3, which is why their scaling is so vastly OP. Weapon damage is the 4th stat.

But since Anet kitten condition users we get worse overall damage, a damage cap, and lower scaling on gear.

Seriously why do people always see nerf as the only solution, you want to use condition damage but its too weak. well then buff it by 500% or something.
Fix the broken, Don’t break the working mechanics.
“Thats powercreep”, No it isn’t.
The skills in this game is way to basic to even worry about that.
In wow where you have 50 buttons nerfing would probably be better.

We tried that… for the last 14 months… it is clear that Anet is not skilled enough to overcome the technical challenges to make it happen. Now we are moving onto the only other viable solution which is to nerf the other guy.

At this point in time, Ascended gear is only truly important in WvW.

The best thing that ANet could do now is separate WvW and PvE and apply whatever “balancing” they need to do only in WvW.

Unfortunately, the way it is now, whatever they do in WvW will detrimentally affect PvE.

Ascended turns 9k damage into 10k damage but it doesn’t change a 2 second stun into a 2.2 second stun.

All the skills in the game need to be reworked as is, but is it going to happen? Nope.

Except that’s not the kind of nerf I was referring to. I was looking at a possible nerf to standard – off the bat endurance bar fill time or number of dodges you get.

This sort of nerf will hit the baddies the most – the people that brought vigor-generating skills in order to stay alive – because they couldn’t manage their game.

A decent zerker player will have no trouble.

Many endurance regen bonus traits are being nerfed across the board. Most classes are going to eat endurance regen nerfs. Yes. It’s coming. Within a few days.

No, it’s not the end of the world. You do underestimate how many zerkers rely on easy access to endurance regen to dodge everything.

But we’ll see come the nerf. Grab some popcorn for the QQ threads.

I suspect rangers and thieves will cry the loudest, even though even after eating the nerf, they’ll still be the best dodgers in the game.
