Guild Wars 2

Hi I was wondering if we’ll ever see Cantha or Elona in Guild Wars 2?

Personally I really miss Cantha and think it would be a great addition to Guild Wars 2. I really enjoyed the story with the plague and starting on an island then making your way over to a huge city then through a giant forest and jade sea. Nightfall was my first Guild Wars game but I played Factions more so the post is mainly about that expansion.

Canthan new year was also a great event on Shing Jea Island. I miss the whole game but the playerbase is very small from last time I checked. It would be great to incorporate bits of Guild Wars 1 in GW2 in future updates. I’m sure other people would like to see some parts of GW1 again.

I’d actually rather see Elona than Cantha. Both were interesting but I’d love to see the wide open spaces we finally got in Elona re-done with GW2’s bigger maps and graphics. Also it always bothered me that we released Palawa Joko and then just left him to take over, I’d like to be able to put that right.

As for whether it will actually happen it’s hard to say. For now they seem more interested in adding to the map of Tyria (the continent), which is also fine with me as I’d like to see more of the places we couldn’t go in the first game. But I think we will go on to Cantha and Elona at some point.

While I would love either one to come back, sadly they aren’t focusing on bring them back right now. Right now they are focusing on dragons and until they are done with that, they probably won’t follow any of the other story arcs present in the game. Also if the HoT xpac is how we are to judge how many maps and how much content we get, it will probably take about 10 xpacs to release either Cantha or Elona which is sad.

Another thing I really miss from GW1 was skill traders and how you could have a more diverse skill bar. My main character was a ritualist and could spawn something like 7 spirits. Also guild halls and capes were very nice. I’m not sure if GW2 has guild halls since I’ve never been in a guild in GW2.

They can’t even make more than 1 legendary in 6 months, you think they’re capable of making a whole continent? Silly

I don’t think they will make either. I think the issue more comes down to splitting the population. With the number of metas active at the moment, the population is already quite split – whether it is SW, Dry Top, Teq, Auric, DS, TD, Shatterer, TT, VB T4, some of those metas fail to garner enough people now and we have only hit one expac. We also have raids, festivals, story, pvp seasons, wvw thrown in there as well.

At the moment, we are nowhere near a critical problem. By the time Tyria is fully fleshed out with all the Dragons, I really can’t see 1 or 2 more continents doing any more than pulling players away from existing content, causing events and the “Living World” to break down – something Anet really doesn’t want to do under the current design philosophy.

It will have to re-design how it does future (and some existing) metas for Elona/Cantha to become viable options based on how things are now.

I’d love to see either personally – Kaiden would be stunning under GW2, with gliding and exploring so many nooks and crannies. Elona would look utterly different, but would evoke fond memories.

Wait for GW3. There is too much work involved to fix the current state of the game, and easier to start off on a clean slate. I think they will just ride GW2 out until it dies (might be sooner than we think), and then announce GW3.
