I get that some folks are happy, thrilled even, to do stuff like play jingle bells in LA. That’s cool, but I find myself getting bored. WvW is a mess and everything we’ve been told says Feb is the earliest we MIGHT see some changes. sPvP is kinda pointless and its hard to keep a team together. I was farming for a legendary to pass the time but now that drop rates are nerfed to almost zero, well…you get the point. I don’t have gobs of real dollars to invest in buying gems/gold and frankly, that takes away from the sense of earning things through play. Fractals is amusing but running it more than one or two times a day is kinda boring too.

I hope Arenanet realizes that giving us periodic holidays and temporary events is like putting bandaids on the shotgun wound that is content. Please open up some actual level 80 zones besides Cursed Shore and whatever that lolKarka island is. If balancing and fixing pvp and wvw is too hard right now, at least try to placate some of us with somewhere new to explore.

Let’s see what they do with this big February patch. I am holding out till then for some WvW love but, from the recent interview I watched, I am not holding my breath.

I also dread what the Valentine’s Day event will be. Hearts everywhere… ugh.

1. This is the first year, so they got to create the holiday events.

2. We’ve had holidays that have been quite close together.

Given these two things, after they’ve created all of their holiday events, they can then focus on other contnet updates.

GW was quite well known for its holiday events, so that’s something they’d want to carry over.

I’m amazed that anyone can complain about the amount of content we’ve received so far since launch. There is just no pleasing some people I guess.

What? Adults aren’t allowed to enjoy holidays? You’re more of an adult if you only like the top end content of your online video game? You have a confusing definition of what constitutes an adult.

Keep in mind arenanet has a lot of departments. I’m sure there’s an entire team assigned to working on new dungeons, new maps, etc.

And well there’s also a team assigned to do holiday stuff. However don’t delegate jewelry crafting recipes to them – they’ll make them inconsistent to the others, and crash the game economy, LOL

Not sure why people are bagging on OP. If I might paraphrase OP using more positive language:

“I’ve loved playing GW2 so far and I really want to keep playing and enjoying. However, I’ve either done the content or have found that I the content I haven’t done I don’t enjoy in it’s current state. I hope ANet will provide meatier updates with more content for me to play through, because I’m starting to lose interest.”

Seems reasonable and I hope so, too.

That’s a pretty broad statement to say NO-ONE wants it.

Besides, they said they’ll be adding to the new area in the future.

gw lore into gw2 is such a small part of the whole that i wonder why the only new content we’ve seen is related to RL commercial holydays lore…

I’ll try my best to explain it to you so you can comprehend it without being offended.

People enjoy in game holiday events, it’s true with almost every game and even though you may not enjoy it or participate, doesn’t mean it should be scrapped or not implemented for the enjoyment of others.

The end of the calendar year has 3 major holidays (including Halloween here) crammed very close together and then of course New Years. It’s a busy time of year in real life and the life of a person who plays MMOs.

I understand that some people feel that everything in the world should be catered to their personal enjoyment but it’s just not going to happen because despite what you may think, opinions different from your own are not wrong, they’re just different.

Also, there has been new non holiday “lore” related content added, but I understand it’s easier to ignore facts in an attempt to justify your personal complaint.

If you want new content go back and really explore some of the areas you ran threw to to get to level 80. There are same amazing places in this game if the people would take the time to look. I love exploring and this game has tones of areas to explore. I’m only level 56 partly because I have a life outside of the game and can’t play 24/7 and mainly I’m taking my time to really see this game. Anet will add new content that’s a given but give them a chance there is plenty of content in this game if you take the time open your eyes and look

please Sir, i do trust in my own mind enough and i can tell you that in any game, and not only in this one, i couldn’t care less of a real world holiday being pulled in into my fantasy world i’m escaping, an not any of the words of yours in any quantity might convince me of the opposite, and thus to praise and thanks the developers for something i do not want. On top of that i despise the fact that all these content is related to holidays which are commercial holidays, that means that are promptly used at the right time as an incentive to spend some more in gems as you would spend in petty presents in real.

Next i expect Saint Valentine Day, then Easter. I’d play Sims if i wanted those.

I would expect those as well. All of the festivites you have mentioned have also been enjoyed to a lesser or greater extent to GW1 by a significant amount of the population. I rather expect your particular grumbling and misguided perception of the thrust of the content will make a dent in Anets designs to continue to do holiday themed events. Things that are to come:

• Revamping all of our existing dungeons (Story and Explorable versions) through rebalance and overhauled encounters.
• Adding new dungeons to the Fractal of the Mists.
• Adding more variation to creatures, enhancing our open world scaling system, as well as evolving many events and experiences across Tyria.
• Fixing and improving existing content throughout the game, and better tying it into the overall sense of player progression within Guild Wars 2.
• Building on the Southsun Cove’s persistent content.
• Adding new Guild content and Guild progression features.
• Continuing to evolve PvP into an E-sport as outlined here: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/structured-pvp-iceberg/
• Adding brand new content to World vs. World as well as adding new reward progression.
• Continuing to build upon the story and adventures of Guild Wars 2.

The OP’s post provides a pretty good example of what is wrong with gamer’s (and people in general) these days.

Yet this mindset hasn’t changed for the past 10 years, yet developers ignore it and keep releasing games that crash and burn thinking the mindset will miraculously change overnight and people will just start enjoy doing the same boring thing over and over for a year until they release new content, then the game becomes free to buy/play with re-structured money system so they can still turn a profit on the fanbois who will pay for any fluff/content they release.

It amazes me people keep saying stuff like “give them time” or “game is only X months old guys” when history has proven over and over that means jack to players. If you don’t have it at release or quickly thereafter people go bye bye. Spvp in this game is a perfect example. Release with so many missing features it’s not even funny.

Technically, Mad King Thorn (and by proxy, Halloween) are part of the GW lore.

In Feb we’ll most likely see the return of Canthan New Year. April will give us April Fool’s.

After they’ve produced the framework for the holidays, we’ll most likely start seeing perma-content updates in tandem with holiday events.

I think it provides a pretty good example of what the average gamer is becoming like, and if companies dismiss it they will suffer.

The more the world continues to cater to instant gratification, the more this is going to increase. MMO companies are going to need to start planning on being quicker with content release and doing it often. Everyone races to the highest level, plays that content and gets bored quickly. You or I may not subscribe to that gameplay but a lot of people do and that shouldn’t be dismissed.

I do agree with the op to a certain extent. Unfortunately ‘Holiday’ content is disposable. It’s here for a few days to a week then its gone. when you see the amount of work involved you start to ask yourself wether the time in development was worth the return in valu to the game and the community.
Added to that, some of the major content in GW2 needs to be looked at (WvW, sPvP, even buggy dungeons and open world events, guild functionality). Yet the majority of content since relese seems to be disposable seasonal filler with additional legalised gambling for children. Though the one shining light in seasonal content is that it only needs major development once, then can be rehashed ad infinitum.
Yet as previous posters have mentioned, we are still only 4 months old. I have my fingers crossed that Jan/Feb will see some solid content fixes and updates. Though I have an ining we wont see much in the way of majot content release till after the first 12 month cycle.

You do know that they have different development teams working with different things? Like one for the holiday events, one for more world changing event, updates etc. While one team takes time working with some coming holiday event, another team can meanwhile work with content that will come out after the holiday and so on. They are not one big team working on just one thing at the time before moving on to the next.

Almost 4 months old but people were 80 the first few days. How many lvl 80 zones are there. Scaling sown to do old content is equally un-enjoyable. Whether you pay to play or have something in place like a store to purchase misc stuff is the same. Actually if you pay attention to the Gaming community as a whole, Most if not all games are going to the F2P model. In the end they are earning more revenue with F2p or they would not change to it. So that particular discussion is a MooT PoinT.

I 100% agree with you. Why put so much effort into a Holiday patch when the all of the other Content got truly boring in the 2nd month. Dungeons have Zero Flavor. A no Grind Game but you have to grind a lot more here than most any other game out there lol. Where is the true focus in the game? What/How do the Dev’s see/want from this game in 6 month’s?

The game is titled Guild Wars but nothing is really in place for Guilds, it is quite laughable tbh.
