One direct threat to the game’s longevity, in my opinion, is the low build variety. While the weapon system makes for an easy-to-balance type of gameplay that guarantees that a build will be “viable,” the template system lacks variety. This is largely because there is a lack of templates to choose from – and it’s one of the many reasons the warrior is so popular: they have more weapon options, and thus more variety, than any other class in the game.

It is my desire to see every class eventually able to use every weapon type. Think about it – Necromancers dual-wielding axes or executing the foe with a Greatsword, the return of the Bunny Thumper (Hammer Ranger), Elementalists using torches that change from fire to water to lightning to earth. It would be glorious!

I have been wanting this since the game came out. Really I don’t think that the classes should be limited due to the idea of lore.

If every class had the ability to use every weapon. It would be epic fun.

But while we are on the idea of adding things. Would it be a good idea to add weapon skill options. Do you know how you can switch out utility? What if you could switch out weapon skills? It would add a lot more options and strategy!

I was disappointed when I found out theifs couldn’t throw their knives at people. I mean, they have one ability to do so, but I wanted it be constant like a shortbow.

I’d like to see more weapon variety, yes, but I don’t want to see the devs throwing out one of the things that helps diversify the classes.

My thoughts are to either add some limited degree of customization to weapon skill bars. So a player can select from one of two skills in each weapon slot, allowing them to customize their setup a bit more for greater diversity.

And there are a few weapons they can introduce, too. Like claws on a thief, or a scythe on a warrior/necromancer (a real one), or a spear for a warrior/guardian/ranger.

Most of all, though, I’d like to see more tinkering with the existing skills to balance them out better. Some weapon sets are clearly too good, and others are awful.

Remember when our developers talked about “strengthening the core game”?
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.

While I don’t think every class using any weapon would be so good, I do like the idea of a Pool of possible weapon skills for each weapon.

While that would make things very interesting, I’m not sure we are ready for more customizing options. After all, there are tons of ways to build a toon through traits, utilities and gear, yet some people insist we can only dps period, or that there are only a few builds that are viable. Test out these other builds, challenge yourself to build a toon that won’t work, then see if you can make it work.

It’s just another Wishful Thinking thread, where someone won’t make the game work on it’s own terms, so let’s change the game to make everyone epic regardless of skill. Or not, who knows.
