I dont have Energy Efficient Ethernet on the options… but the lamp is blinking on and off

i dont have as well this option

it depends on your chipset/lan card. Some have the feature, generally for use in mobile applications, it just happens that Windows 10 turns it on by default even on a desktop. If you don’t have the option it’s not a concern for you.

The nVidia problem was that MS forced a driver update for those desky-top cards or SLI configs with the code modified a la MS.

nVidia quickly rolled a new driver out to overcome this “little” problem.

I’d be happy if they killed the bloated monstrosity that is GeForce Experience. 1% is driver code and 99% is adds for Shield Tablets and other crap.

I’ve been getting a burst of static from my speakers/headphones when I first launch GW2, as far as I can tell all my driver’s are up to date/etc, anyone have an idea what’s causing it/how to fix it?

It does it on other games as well apparently. Don’t know the cause, though.

ran into this one: if you have a gigabyte mobo and you’ve ever plugged a iDevice into it, you’re going to want to uninstall the ON/OFF gigabyte thing in your apps. the applecharger service will prevent your computer from shutting down.

also: built in windows defender security is actually pretty good. stop using Norton. your antivirus is bad and you should feel bad.

Anyone use the optical audio out connection for 5.1 or DTS? I had read in a few places there was some issue with using the optical audio out connections and it not working properly.

For the record, the fix for this static noise seems to be to run it in windows 7/8 compatibility mode.

Not sure if it works for other games, but for GW2 just right click on the icon, go to Properties —> then the Compatibility tab up top —> change it to windows 7/8 mode, and it should get rid of the static.

been using NAV for decades… not ever had an issue, and have only ever had to reinstall one time on win 7 from a ransom virus on my game pc… all other desktops and laptops have never caught anything. NAV is good if you let it do its job…. I have no experience with defender though, so this will be a new ride for me in that reguards.

I would have put this up earlier but had to figure out how to get a pic to show… (yeah, I’m slow at times…) This shows the Energy Efficient Ethernet setting (if your H/W supports it).

you can consider yourself lucky.

NAV doesn’t play well with others at all, but that’s true of any antivirus software. They all seem to be mutually exclusive. NAV has a habit of messing up system files, modifying registry and taking a lot of other liberties with your system. It’s not as bad as McAfee, but it is still a lesser of two evils.

The built in WD is solid, and I haven’t met a win server admin yet that uses anything else.

Win server Admins wont ever use anything else simply due to the licensing agreement they have with MS. If something where to happen unintentionally with the system itself, windows would not provide any support to said company if they used a third party software that messes with the core system files, like any other AV program does btw. It may be a solid AV program, but that is not the sole reason Sys Admins stick with that option.

Maybe I have been lucky, but then again, I would have to count my whole family lucky, as I recommend it with every system I build for them. I typically dont get asked for help with any type of virus or malware issue on their pc’s and all I have ever used is norton security suite and malwarebytes antimalware. Usually I am asked to come help install a new printer or figure out some sort of QoL adjustment for software they use etc… Occasionally its an internet issue wit hconnectivity (usually on comcasts end wit hrecent construction in the area and hardware upgrades in the vicinity.)

Norton gets a bad rap from the early 2000’s almost solely on the reason it was a resource hog and could show significant slow down speeds on your pc back then. A lot of that carries over to today by people who cant let that stay in the past. While NAV is still a bit of a hog, it is negated by the fact we now have multi thread processors and huuuuuge amounts of RAM available to us today. I argue that it is still one of the better AV progs to use. People will undoubtedly have their fav’s and I can understand that, but there is no denying its effectiveness… It certainly has proven itself in my eyes and in the eyes of those that trust me to build their machines.

My FPS on GW2 is really low, and I dont have that option. can i still fix it?

People have reported both an increase in FPS as well as decreases, Win10 video drivers may not be well optimized yet.

The Ethernet setting should not have any effect of your FPS other than creating lag you would notice as the game hesitating and then running normally. It might be a video driver problem so you might search to see if there is an updated driver for your video card (nVidia had an update… new ATI Radeon driver would not load on my system ).

I had a game crash that left my game video settings in some indeterminate state. I managed to fix it by going into options and selecting auto-detect to set up the game video. Not sure this will help but it might be worth trying.

Cheap model Logitech mouse driver would not install on my system… still using the old one. Oh, well… I’m sure it will be fixed by the time Win11 comes out.

Update: The smartinstaller failed… when I selected the 64-bit installer. it worked fine… live and learn… I suspect the smartinstaller tried to run the 32-bit installer in error.

If your are planning to upgrade to windows 10 you need to update all drivers along with the commonly forgotten motherboard chipset drivers. There may be bios updates to. Also on older system you need to check for driver availability before updating, some older system may not be supported for windows10 with new drivers and there for GuildWars will not run properly or not at all, even though the games minimum system requirements will allow it. Just because windows10 will install on your older system with its built in generic drivers and run properly doesn’t mean the game will, the game needs those updated drivers to run.

It is not Anets responsibility to get these drivers for you or to make hardware manufactures to update their driver for older hardware. The game run fine in windows 10 but you have to do a little work to get there. Don’t use one of those craptasic driver update utility apps, get the drivers yourself if you have a prebuilt system like a Dell, hp, or Alienware. You can get the latest drivers for those system from their websites. If you built the system yourself the that may take a little more effort. You will need to go to the hardware site like AMD, NVIDIA, Gigabit and others. Also when googling drivers don’t just grab the first website on the list these are always adds for pay to install driver site, find the actual hardware site don’t fall for a scam or a for profit service when all these drivers are a free downloads from the hardware manufacturer site

Windows 10 is a vast improvement over 8, but do a little research before upgrading to have the best gaming expirance on windows 10. Good luck

I’m having an issue on one of my computers since upgrading to windows 10. If I do not set the taskbar to auto hide when I play the game in full screen 2560/1600 if I click on the hotkey with my mouse on the bottom portion of the icon it minimizes the game and my desktop pops up. The only fix I have found to this is to set the taskbar to auto hide every time I play the game.

Anyone else had an issue with error# 42:0:9001:3858:101 ? (The game client is unable to gain access to the log-in server at this time. This is most commonly caused by firewall or router settings, security applications, or connecting through a campus network. For additional support, please visit http://support.guildwars2.com. ) I get it repeatedly, with no warning.

This happens randomly since I upgraded to Windows 10. I’ve uninstalled Mcafee, though that’s never been an issue…I just never use it, so it’s gone. While I’ve been combing through the forums I’ve decided to turn my Windows firewall off, as well, to see if that helps at all. I’d appreciate any input you have (I’m on a desktop, and doubt that it’s my Nvidia card, that was another issue in and of itself that I had to sort out.)

My computer and another are both connected to a router with ethernet cords, and the other functions fine, but has not installed Win 10. If I can’t play GW2, I might just roll back to Win 7 for the time being. I love Cortana, but I roleplay heavily and this is a serious disruption.
