Winter Wonderland Feedback
I find that I have less camera issues with smaller characters. Do you have an Asura Necro?(Asura are small, and Necros can use Spectral Walk to pull them back up after they fall)
Good luck with it.
Definitely avoid doing JP’s with larger races such as Norn or Charr. Camera issues are much worse with them.
I spent 9 hours trying to complete that puzzle, I just suck at it.. I may try another 9 hours to see if I can complete it, but don’t know if I’m feeling up to it yet. I’m just glad you get to have a camera issue to blame it on. I’m just not talented enough to complete it sigh

Out of curiosity have you watched videos of people who have done it?

yes, I have watched the videos. I’ve gotten to the fire a handful of times and made it across those popping presents once. That’s as far as I’ve gotten.
Winter Wonderland is the one jumping puzzle you shouldn’t have any camera issues with at all. I do it on charr all the time and have a full zoom out the entire way.

Do you aim your jumps by turning your mouse with the right mouse button pressed in addition to the wasd keys, or do you only use wasd? The former is much much better once you get the hang of it. If this is not the problem, what usually makes you fall? Or are you too slow?

I aim my jumps with right mouse button pressed in and I move forward with the W button.
I have an issue with puzzles that are timed. If I can take my time, I can (usually after a few tries) succeed at the jumping puzzle. But anything that has to be timed, I can’t seem to complete. I’m in a hurry, so I overrun/over jump/under jump an area that I’ve made several times.
I usually find JP’s easiest on asura, but for this one I can only complete it on my human. My asura feels too slow and her center doesn’t feel correct to me. You just have to keep trying. Stay zoomed all the way out and get used to turning your camera for the snowflakes part. I try to go up the presents either alone or with just one other person. After that, watch the wind. You do have time to pause for the wind before going out to the boulders. I dodge roll onto the peppermints because, maybe it’s lag, but I seem to get knocked around even when I’m not in a red circle. Then for the last set of presents remember to jump on the blue ones.
Hmm, I can only tell you some things that help me perform my jumps more reliably. Keep your camera at a high angle so it is easy to tell if you jumped far enough. Aside from the candy bars you have a lot of leeway for over-jumping in this puzzle so make sure you do not under jump. Don’t put the camera all the way to the top though. Some snowflakes are tilted and the highest part might be too high to jump to, and you will not be able to tell high and low parts from each other.
Also try to steer a bit with the a and d keys if you seem to have misaimed (without releasing w), if practiced this allows you to jump before turning your camera in the most optimal position thus gaining you time.
And last but not least, when you get frustrated, quit and return another time (hours/days later). I find that combining last time’s experience with a fresh mind often produces good results.
Maybe other people have some good advice?
Thank you for all the good jumping advice and tips.
Thanks for the tips, I’ll give some a try next time.
Galespark provided some good tips on camera movement.
Another thing to do is make sure you’re always attempting the same path. Find one you like and stick with it so you can get some muscle memory going (I like the far right path).
If you get to the fire, wait for and go as soon as the bottom row of white presents spawn (before the blues spawn). Then you should be able to go straight up the middle (may require a side step toward the end, but typically not). If someone goes before you wait for the next sequence as they will trigger the presents popping and you’ll be under tighter pressure.
Oh and pray this doesn’t happen to you… Death by Candy Cane… So frustrating…

There is a good amount of things that can be frustrating in there, still I prefer it for the Wintersday daily to Bell Choir.
Maybe another tip: I want to see the full legs of my character, makes the aiming and timing of jumps a lot easier for me.
The only thing I find frustrating in this jp is the fall glitch after the the popping presents. Otherwise it’s a matter of practicing your camera angle and always moving. Having to stop because a snowflake is respawning is what throws my timing off most and then I fall to my death.
You dont have to be one to love one.
