To people who will say “You should have known that”, you are 10000% right. I should

have checked it’s info more carefully. But i just can’t stop thinking how they end up

with an idea where it gives falling snow effect, but has no skin at all. It just doesn’t make

any senses. Shoulder skin is one of the most important skin to me.

Please Anet, take this matter seriously. You can’t just take shoulder skin, replace

with snow effect, then say WELL DONE, WE DID BEST. Give me more than that.

p.s: Please make this work on outfits too. It’s better for everyone. A win win game.

True story:

It is much less work to design and implement a particle effect than it is to design a new shoulder skin.

Combine that with the fact that people go nuts for particle effects and it’s a perfect storm of low art budget and high player desirability so they can sell the things that actually cost significant man hours as black lion ticket and gem store items.

they don’t have to make a new skin. They probably thought having show effect is already too much and doesn’t need skin for it. If that’s a case, they should have made this winter’s presence a character bounded type a thing where it doesn’t relate with armor. It’s just so sad that i have to choose snow effect or shoulder skin. Since it’s only effects, it should be character bounded thing, not an armor skin.<—-because that ain’t armor. And they should also make this effect visible with outfits just because thats their pure income and adding effect that is already out is not hard thing to do.

Most likely the skin would clash with whatever most people would wear. Then you would get a lot of QQ about clipping with “everything” and with an item that costs so much it shouldn’t clip with “everything”. Plus it would take more Dev time and more money to implement. I’m not sure what their reasoning was. It might have been a budget thing or they weighed the cons and decided the QQ would be worse if they had a skin that clipped and people decided they didn’t like how it looked.

Another way to look at it:

People complained that every armor skin was ugly, clipped, and didn’t have sparkles.

So they started designing armor skins that were’nt ugly, didn’t clip, and had sparkles.

They gave the people what they wanted

all I’m saying is Anet didn’t have to make winter’s presence a shoulder armor piece and make players to choose between shoulder skin or snow effect. That is just too wrong.
Also this isn’t about their budget. if it is they are doing this wrong.

We don’t know why they chose to go this route with this item and the Halloween item. It seems that they simply are adding in these aura effects with shoulder pieces for festive events. If you want an aura an other way you can look at raids. Right now we only have one aura from raids but I am sure there will be a new one with each wing through infusions. It isn’t about being wrong or right really. But I can understand how you would be upset if you didn’t look into it before putting all those resources into it. But as you pointed out in your first post that is not Anet’s fault. Anet did what they did. You don’t have to like it. Of course if you don’t like it then you don’t make it which is why checking it out throughly is always the best.

They could have made it an equippable item, like the bee gem and the refractors. In fact, they accidentally did that early on (turning bee gems into snow gems), so clearly they could if they wanted.

I almost always hide my shoulder skins. Most shoulder skins in this game are grossly exaagerated. I look like I’m wearing tanks on my shoulders. No thanks. Anet didn’t “do something wrong” here. They did something you don’t personally like.

Well other people in this thread don’t all agree with you. This is simply a matter of taste.

Shoulder skins is one of the most important skins to me that’s why I never was into those effect skins. But for real: before you went through this ordeal you really never previewed this skin? People these days…
