Well the JP is annoying and I am sure a lot of new players will be frustrated with it its still somewhat doable in about 20minutes of retrying and a lot of kittens flying around. It would be nice if they increased the daily pool for this cause I am not a musical kinda person xD. So 30minutes of jp a day would really be annoying but I guess Ill get the hang of the jp eventually. but still it would be nice to increase the options for dailys for new players. PS wish I had my great sword to slaughter those snow ball tossing rats :P

I’ll correct you here, it will never be doable for me in 20 minutes. This JP has elements in it that I’ll never be able to do unless by accident: beams, tiny platforms and a time constraint. I’ve managed it once (no idea how anymore), but only after trying for about 2 hours.

About the bell choir, I like that one even though my keyboard is a major hindrance at it. I can’t reach the 6 with my right hand…. (MS Natural Keyboard), so healing between songs is mandatory for me, unless I get the lower/higher octave (no clue which is which, because like somebody who posted above me, I’m tone deaf and have no sense of rhythm, but unlike that person, I never was forced to follow a music education of any sort)

Well at least you have the choir bell xD Like I said the JP is hard for some people and not hard for others the last phase is about luck really and knowing some of the attack times of those dam skritt with the guns one mess up = getting rolled over by a snow balls … And the JP is doable for some in 5minutes its all about what your skilled at and an increase to the daily pool would be nice to allow people to at least finish the achievement and get the meta achievement xD

The problem with the game is not that it’s too hard. Well, it is. But the real problem is that it’s too much at once. You cannot expect a new player to start learning and pressing all 10 notes at once. This is completely ridiculous.

You don’t start learning blind typing on a keyboard by learning all 50 characters at once, either. No, you start by learning 2 characters, and than another 2, and than 4. And so on.

The game should do the same, to make it easier to learn and fun to progress for a player. First songs should introduce players with only 2-4 notes to get a feel for it, and than gradually increase the number of notes by each next song. Even games like Guitar Hero use only 5 notes, but the bell choir has 10! Imagine playing Guitar Hero with 10 notes… Crazy, right?

So having to do all 10 notes at once from start is just way too much to grasp, and gives you no time or opportunity to learn. You would have to either decrease the starting number of notes which would than gradually increase the learning curve in the next songs (for those that want to achieve better scores), or decrease the overall speed of how fast notes are coming.

If it would introduce you to the game slowly, it could be a very fun game, but the state that it is in now is a complete mess. Instead of having fun with the game, players only look to exploit and hit 2 notes to heal them up to barely pass the game for the daily. Another good concept, but terrible, sloppy execution.

I totally agree with Lillith on the difficulty of these Daily awards. As a person with premature rheumatoid arthritis I find the bells impossible to achieve as I can’t move my fingers fast enough. Jumping puzzles I can do given time, but this jumping puzzle is timed, making it impossible for me. So two of the dailies are out of my reach.

There are mice and keyboards that allow bindings of actions for those of us with some form of disability, but unfortunately Arena Net won’t let us program them either if it performs more than 1 action per key press, such as turn right and jump, so we are screwed whatever way we look at it.

You just can’t request Anet to make the events easier everytime you feel like you can’t finish what is requested. MMOs aren’t created to be so easy that they don’t even require you to try. You request Anet to change the entire event because you don’t want to learn 1 or 2 mini-games? and they are EASY!

Also, it is childish to assume that Anet has to release content playable by everyone. Content has to require a little of practise. You can’t await Anet to make content so people who started the game yesterday can finish everything. They shouldn’t be able to finish everything generally. In other MMOs, they are not even allowed to play holiday-events. I have never seen an MMO, offering content so easy that it can be finished by eveyrone including new players. Why would a new player finish all the daily achievments and wintersday achievments in the first place? it is not really normal for new players in an MMO to finish such stuff, it usually takes time to learn the game, progress and then get into these things.

What is more stupid is the fact that all the events are so easy and all they require is time and grinding if you want to finish the achievments. I don’t even know how they can make them easier! The game is so simple and yet people complain and want to make it even more simple. Later on, they complain about challenging content. It doesn’t even make sense.

Yes, there are bugs. Yes, some grinding is just stupid. However, the game is generally on easy mode and do not require anything easier as it is easy from the start. People seem to get so spoiled that they await everything to be given to them for free. Yes, GW2 is casual, but if all these suggestions become a reality, we may as well get everything for free including legendaries just by clicking login-button and directly clicking logout without playing. Because that’s what the playerbase seem to want by this point.

I must always laugh out loud, very loud, whenever I see a thread complaining about the Wintersday Activities being so incredibly hard, such a “tremendous” unbearable “grind”.

People QQing like pros over those ridiculous low 500 correct presses, which are in essence just only 5 completed songs and its mostly done in like participating 2-3 rounds or just a few more, based on how often you get kicked out cause of being just a bad player.
However, whatever you do, you keep on progressing and by that, it just means, its not a matter of skill, but just a matter of time until everyone can get it and most people are able to get it just in a few minutes done…

People always play themself up, as if they seem to be the biggest cripples of the world, unable to do somethign so simple, and in fact, they play sicne already more than 2 years a game, whioch confronts them each tiem they play it with also 10 skills, 10 buttons they have to press at the right time and even more options against multiple different enemies, forcing them to REACT on something and about this, they suddenly have had for all this tiem 0 problems with their hand to eye coordinations, that requires them also to use 10 fingers at the same time and to coorfdinate them…

but oh suddenly, there come some colored balls falling down and I simple can’t believe, how many people seem to degenerate out of a sudden into incompetent people, unable to just press some buttons at the right time? Seriously??
This isn’t really believeable.

You also can’t blame ANet for this nice and fun Activity, if you are just personally unable to time the presses on the moment when the colored ball touches the blue inner ring at the right time.
Can’t be so hard to have 8 fingers on 8 buttons and hold them there, 4 on left hand 4 on right hand. The rest is just a learning and coordination issue. A simple L2P, but it is naturally alot easier to come to the forums and QQ over those activities, instead of using your time rather to learn the activity and get better at it and progress in this fast paced activity more on those 500 simple progressive correct presses than one has to do only which are doable in a matter of a few minutes

Same with winter wonderland. Its a L2P issue. Just repeat and and learn the mechanics, which way to use best, where to jump best to reach the end, before you die cause of the frost effect, when to do best that multi box part and where to run best quickly, do avoid at the end the large rolling bonbons to get to the final little jumping to jump into the goal.
WInterwonderland is much much much easier, than for example the halloween JP with that spinning around tower and even that is doable, with just enough practice and experience.

You can’t expect to do everything always instantly perfectly, without fails.
Fails belong to progression and if you are just unable to learn from your fails, then its just best to ignore such activities, because there are 6 activites and 5 are needed, so no one is ever forced to do the JP to get the wintersday dailies done.
Participating then just on 1 single bell choir song is done in a minute, you don’t even have do win, just participate and stay until its over…

I’m self absolutely no music genius, I play no instruments, I was born a few months too early and had to battle the first years of my life as child with a little hand to eye discoordination issue, and I can’t type with 10 fingers due to this until today, never learned, it, never will (I actually type more with 2-4 fingers just only..and still am nearly as fast as someone with 10 just cause of getting used to that for xx years in regard of getting experience and practice) and next year I become 30, so I am far away from having any teenage reflexes anymore also and when someone like me is able to get the hardest jumping puzzles like the halloween one done in this game and has such a little thing, like the bell choir achievement done in a few minutes… then should be everyone with absolutely no handycaps at all also easily be able to to all of this too I guess.

Sometimes I really don’t understand this world anymore >.> lol

Just some thoughts for those still having trouble with the bell choir. (Don’t ask how long it took me to figure this out!)

1) You REALLY need to get the directly overhead viewpoint. If you’re viewing from the side, the moment the dots hit the blue is not clear.

2) Position your hands on the keyboard number keys as if you’re playing the piano.

3) wait for the dot to actually enter the blue before striking the keyboard key.

4) I might be wrong on this one, but it seems to me that you have to wait for the “new event” banner before talking to the snowman for a part. Try to position yourself at a spot without people waiting, then wait for that banner to appear.

5) I generally play with the sound off, so it’s perfectly possible to do this with video alone. Wasn’t even aware there was a metronome! Gotta try it with sound.

6) Remember…it’s a game! Have fun!

Same.. Wintersday has been a real disappointment for me this year – so much click, click, click grind or a run, repeat, repeat, repeat content.. just nothing substantial in terms of content is beginning to wear thin on me.
Still, as it’s my birthday just as Santa pops down the big ole chimney the kids and I have also been watching those movies whilst waiting and hoping for some real snow to fall and have a proper Christmas snowball event of our own.

@Orpheal… I guess your just too darn pro a bell ringer for us all – I guess while you were honing your bell ringing skills many of us were busy learning how to write sentences and paragraphs that we could read without our eyes bleeding.

So basically you’d love it if the dailies were just:
- Press F 5 times.
- Hit 5 players with a snowball
- AFK an activity
- Talk to an NPC
- Click 4 items

Now this is NOT meant to be offensive, really! It’s just that a lot of the players appear to object to even the slightest challenge. This is not an exaggeration. The JP might be considered “challenging” simply because every JP is a major obstacle for the majority of the players but the Bell Choir game is not.
Do you really want those achievements to be handed out for what amounts to nothing?
It has a small learning curve until you’ve figured out the timing. But the easy songs are just that – easy. I once read somewhere that the developers hold some responsibilty when it comes to educating the community. By educating I mean teaching them about game mechanics and helping them push the envelope a bit. If you join Bell Choir, mindlessly mash buttons and fail don’t throw your hands up in the air and quit. Give it 20 minutes until you’ve figured out how it works and then you will see that you can handle this minigame, even if it’s just the easy songs. Some people might be limited by their connection or FPS but that’s their own cross to bear.

Turn volume off.. put your fingers on numbers key and try.. first song is very very slow and hit the number only when the circle reach the end. Try without volume and see if any difference.

The set of achievements is very poor and seems like a step backwards.

I far preferred the halloween dailies where they could be used to help you do the meta. This feels like more of a chore.

And as for the bell choir, always focus on getting notes right, rather than trying to be perfect. You get penalized for each wrong press but if you make sure to only get right ones, you will outheal the missnotes, until the later songs. In other words, it’s possible to only focus on several notes if you really can’t do it (I suggest mostly paying attention to 1-4)— you can get less than half of them right but “survive” long enough to get the daily.

This daily seems bugged. I participated through an entire song, got a score of 100 (considering how bad I suck at and that I have zero desire to get any better at it this is a good score for me). Still no credit on the daily. Even tried going through a complete session more than once. Never get credit for “participating.”

The wording on the achievement is really bad.

You must succeed in at least one song, meaning your health cannot drop to 0 during it. That is why it’s a good idea to only play notes you can make (as they hit the inner circle).

I don’t understand the bell choir achievement requirements. Participation in one attempt certainly doesn’t count. Probably want to make that more clear next year. Seems I’m not the only one who is finding the requirements to be confusing.

Anyway, I love music, but I’ve playing playing with -nosound for performance reasons. I might turn it on at some point to try the bell choir with sound. We’ll see. It’s not an enjoyable activity without sound; I can tell you that.

P. S. Why is Wintersday Daily 5 for completion and Halloween was 3 for completion? Pretty sure that’s how it was anyway. Don’t understand the change there. 3 for completion is plenty for a holiday daily.

Did it make you feel better now to counter your hurt feelings by playing out the sarcastic card of ignorance??
You do realize, that this kind of conversation is absolutely pointless here as like completely out of place right now and leads to nothing??
It should be clear for you that in an international Forum, that you will always see people in them, that aren’t natural English speakers, or??
However, I naturally do apologize for that reading inconvenience. I try to do my best :P

I just don’t like it, when people make elefants out of flies and overdramatize things and then complain about something – selfmade problems, for that the developer can’t do anything for it, because the origin of the issue doesn’t begin in the design of the game mechanic, but instead the origin of the issue is to be found here just by the player only itself.

500 correct Button Presses is absolutely no “grind”.
Thats plain and simple playing like 5-10 songs and each song is a matter of a few seconds.
This is hardly “grind” nor is it forced to you to do it, you can skip it if you don’t like it, but then you’d have to do something else if you want just that little Laurel Bonus and the few Extra Gifts for doing 5 Wintersday Achievements.

I would understand those complaints, if it would require like 5000 correct buttons being pressed. But a task, that requires no more finger coordination, than playing your class with 10 skills – come on, you can’t be serious.
The game even itself tells you everytime at the begin of a round, what to do best, to have it EASIER, but I guess, that’s also something that alot of people seem just to ignore, giving me the impression, that this activity isn’t NPE standard and must be as it seems to be too confusing to press buttons at the right time when it requires of the player no skill, but just only reflexes and a good enough hand to eye coordination to know, which button to press and when exactly.

I have played the bell choir since it got implemented and it has been since then always the same. There is no bug, that people seem to use as an excuse for their personal bad reflexes or inexperience with this activity, because its easier to point with the figner at something else seeking for a fault, that not exists, just to distract from the real issue, that is the own unwillingness to learn and practice the mechanics of this game.

Thats just my personal impression I got from those complaint threads so far about the bell choir.
People are way too much spoiled nowadays and seem to want to have everything hand fed to them in an instant to get achievements. The very moment, where they fail… uh duh uh duh.. it must be BUGGING! That must it be…
If it doesn’t work instantly … uh duh uh duh… it must be GRIND! That must it be for sure and I dislike it, so I run to the forums and complain about it, instead of investing rather more tries to get such a simple task done, like just doing at least some correct buttons pressings to ensure to stay at least long enough alive to “survive” a single song, because that is exactly enough to do to warrant, that a player will get then after that the daily wintersday achievement for the bell choir game.

There it takes even sometimes longer to find sometimes just an other player to throw them 3 snowballs into the virtual face, than to get a single bell choir song done.
Seriously!

Very mysterious, that no one is complaining for example about this, cause its the only Wintersday Daily, that requires the help of an other player to get it done, making everyone dependent from someone else, while all other Wintersday Dailies can be done solo in a matter of seconds (Donation of 1 Copper) to minutes (Bell Choir/JP/Snowman)

No, people prefer rather instead to make a drama about something, that they can choose to completely ignore, cause of the little extra bonus doesn’t require to do all 6 dailies – no, it leaves free space for 1 optional choice.
But its naturally clear, that the non challenge wanting spoiled people that shout at something that is done in a few minutes that it is “grind”, prefer naturally the amount of dailies to be done for the little Extra Reward to be reduced from 5 to 3, as if it wouldn’t be already easy enough… /sigh

There are actually other language forums.

  • Which are useless, cause they feel so inofficial, cause they literally have absolutely zero affect on the game, unlike the English Forum, where you actually see also the conversations and discussions from the real developers and can participate in them (CDI’s)
  • Its ignorant to say, there are other languages forums, because you know as good as me, that the forums just support only a hand full of languages.
    German, Spanish, French, English.
Very many players don’t have an own language forum here and alot of GW2 players don’t come naturally from those 4 language supported countries.

However, this is kind of offtopic now, so I would like it if peopel could refocus now on the real topic here, instead of wasting your and mine time talking about language problems ok ??? Good

Not a complaint just an explanation of how I feel.

Think I’ll have to send ArenaNET Guitar Hero for Christmas, there is a logical reason why it has 5 buttons, 1 whammy bar, and an up/down strum which really counts as 1 hit (if I recall) the 5 lanes associate themselves with 5 colored notes traveling down the screen which take a lot longer to travel than the ones we have in Bell Choir.

Because humans have trouble keeping track of fast moving objects beyond 7 and some as we can see above have problems with even that many, for example I can only play GH with 3 buttons + strum — maybe at a push and depending on the type of song 5 + strum, simply because my cognitive functions do not operate at the high speed required to keep up.

So.. I suggest, lengthening the runway by twice the amount, so we’ve more time to react and reducing the amount of notes required from 3~9 by selection of difficulty, notes above the user desired difficulty level are played automatically.

100% honest question: If the choir is too difficult and the Wintersday dailies are too much of a challenge, what can you do in this game except the zerg world events?

Don’t take it as a hit or anything, I’m actually just curious.

okay, since you’ve so kindly asked the question I’ll give you my point of view thanks for the respect.

Wintersday is a 1 time a event that happens once a year over a period of time that is finite, the game as whole is not finite we have time to practice and learn at our own speed. (ArenaNET willing)

Reasonably recently I leveled all the classes to 80, what I noticed a lot when changing classes is I don’t just twitch it takes time for the neurons in my brain to fire up and install the appropriate memory mussel software that connect to that class depending on how frequently I play that class depends on how quick the install, putting it in simple terms.

What its called is determination, I have many things that effect me that I say nothing about, I have social phobia, anxiety disorder, depression & a slight touch of developing mono-phobia, I can even get panic attacks trying to go get a visa when other players are around because suddenly I feel publicly foolish for missing a step, but I really do love thew game so its worth the effort and determination to continue.

oh and dyslexia lol

The wording on the achievement is really bad.

You must succeed in at least one song, meaning your health cannot drop to 0 during it. That is why it’s a good idea to only play notes you can make (as they hit the inner circle).

They changed something in one of the last patches. I am pretty sure that the song must now be completed correctly – meaning, all 3 people must finish without getting kicked.

Actions, not words.

Lol, really, such an easy game and people complain. Can’t do this, can’t do that. What the heck is goin on with the game community? Do we really need a win button to press it? Hell, all those should play Mega Man on NES…

‘would have/would’ve been’ —> correct
‘would of been’ —> wrong

GW2 is much better then most games for those of us who don’t process colors but this mini game, is at least for me, undo able I tried I really did but I know when I’m wasting my time. I will someday probably soon do the JP and that is great but I still would like to see a couple of other things in the rotation, after all there are other Wintersday activities

As a more constructive criticism, I also struggled in the beginning because I was pressing the keys too early. You need to wait until the note “pops” before you press the key. Much easier to press the key too soon than too late.

Roundabout.1752 I think part of the constant kittening about this mini game, is that you NEED to do it enough to get 500 correct notes for the meta.

The Revenant Apostle [Rvnt]→ DragonBand
Kaiji Ruko – 80 Ranger, Revanat Shadowdeath – 80 Necromancer

Even with only ~60% accuracy that’s only 3 rounds. How is that too much?

Three rounds should equate to 30min of game play. If this to much for one part of the meta achieve i do not know what to tell you. Mind i am biased i don’t find the game hard.

Don´t know about you, but I want to play a MMO and not Guitar Hero. I also would have to remap my keys everyday to be able to do it.

So it´s not difficulty or challenge, it´s simply annoying for me.

I´ve done the daily a few times with the JP which I found to be more of a challenge to my taste (and JP´s are atleast GW2-content from start and are about moving your character which for me is a lot more tied to actual gameplay) but overall it gets old to do the same tasks every day.

MMORPG as a genre has no typical gameplay.
That is to say, it doesn’t tell you anything about what you’ll be doing. Compare a few current MMORPGs:

  • World of Warcraft
  • Eve Online
  • Guild Wars 2
  • Maple Story

I also would have to remap my keys everyday to be able to do it. So it´s not difficulty or challenge, it´s simply annoying for me.

There’s a second column in the keybindings window.
I use a setup like that, too. Skills 1-5 are on the number 1-5, 6-9 are on Q,W,R,T (I use ESDF to move), and the Elite is on the button left of 1 (^ on the german keyboard).
I then use 6-0 as secondary bindings for the skills to make playing instruments in general and Bell Choir in particular more manageable.

and JP´s are atleast GW2-content from start and are about moving your character which for me is a lot more tied to actual gameplay

I’m not quite sure how precision of control is gameplay in one instance but not in another, sorry.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

I know she’s a little under the weather from the events in the living story, but the Avatar of the Pale Tree miniature looks like a stroke victim. She never blinks and her facial muscles are completely static.

I was hoping for elegant when I purchased this mini, but it’s startlingly terrifying as released. Disappointed, and I have a little buyer’s remorse.

Well, on the positive side, the Avatar of the Pale Tree mini does have a firefly/glitter aura that rivals Faren’s. Still, her unblinking, thousand-yard stare only gifts her with slightly more personality than Trahearne.
