WintersDay Speculations
I just wanted to find out what the communities thoughts were on the newest holiday about to land in Tyria.
Personally, I believe that the toymaker will arrive in each city, bringing love and joy and blah, blah, blah. We will get a hat or something unique and the festivities will begin.
In the midst of the celebrations, the toys will start to go haywire, destroying anything in its path. It will be the players duty to restore peace to each of the cities, spanning over a week long conquest to rid them from the world.I also feel a mini dungeon or jumping puzzle in the form of the toymakers airship will be in the mix somewhere, judging from the past events.
I am looking forward to reading your speculations, queries and concerns about the patch, and I have faith that Anet will succeed again in another fun event!
I think it goes without saying he will be in each city think they might have said that too. Honestly if there’s not armor or weapons I don’t even care about the event all that much.
“Merry Christmas Players! Our present to you: a disconnect! Wait! There’s more! We’ll throw in a break down of our Login servers too! Enjoy the festivities!”
Yep. That sums up my expectations.
You all forgot the Black Lion Trading post being fully stocked with Wintersday items!
- Unidentified holiday red dye
- Unidentified holiday green dye
- Unidentified holiday dye pack
- Two costumes that will take up twelve spaces in bank storage
- Toymakers chest with candy, snowballs, tonics, a chance for a holiday hat and gloves, rare weapons skins and minis (weapon skins < 5% chance, minis < 1% chance)
/smh
I hope I’m wrong about all of that.

Wow jaded and cynical much?
I understand Wintersday was a big deal in GW1 and I expect it will be a big deal in GW2. I’m hoping for snow ball fights and jumping puzzles and it looks like the ‘festivities’ will move from city to city so Lion’s Arch won’t be the only one getting the love this go around.
On the trading post, well AcidicVision is about right. I’m sure there will be a scavanger hunt and/or jumping puzzle for additional rewards and at the end Tix will give out something (a hat or scarf) that everyone can get for free.
Or a toy accessory that goes in our town clothes weapon slot… cause come on, asura running around swinging teddy bears at eachother? Even the biggest grinch has to see the adorable in that.
failure is still a monumental success, assuming
losses remain within acceptable parameters.

Sounds like your a psychic to me.
my speculations are that it will be about christmas and winter…
Toymaster Trixx will turn everyone into Asuras, so you can better yourselves
Asura – Desolation
I like these answers guys keep them coming!
And to the people who are being a bit negative, Anet have stated in the AMA that they have learned from the mistakes of Lost Shores and are planning on building on their event system to make a working system for us.
So keep hopeful!
You can bet your kitten that whatever happens, people are going to find fault. Perhaps the festive jumping puzzle is too slippery, maybe someone got whole GI Joe headquarters set a precursor, under his tree and all you got was a lousy Logan Thackery mini… or maybe the snow is the wrong shade of white.
But people will find a problem
Garnished Toast
Likely everything was decided months ago, so even if they learned their lesson, the effect of that will not necessarily show up on this event. I would like to stay hopeful though.
Edit..
I expect things to craft that do not require 250 of t6 mats, because we have enough of those already.

I will hand a blank check to Anet if they put in a rifle that looks like a candy cane and shoots tinsel as the particle effect….
Then I’d make sure to bounce that check <.<

The only thing that I hope they do differently from the Lost shores event is that they make the mini pets separate in the gem store…at least then i would actually have a chance to get them. xD
Really hope they bring back the snowball fights also, they were quite fun in Gw1.
Loved Wintersday in Gw1, should be interesting to see what they do with it in Gw2.

I expect a battalion of angry entitled posters complaining on the forums that they didn’t get the Christmas presents that they wanted.

That’s pretty much what I was thinking. I’m really really hoping they add snowball fights (like the ones you can play with in Wayfarer Foothills), that would be so fun.
AcidicVision also summed up my expectations for the BLTC.
@Ahlen, I don’t mind them trying to make money via the gem store, I understand they need to make money. The problem comes from stuff hidden behind RNG requiring you to gamble on a teeny tiny chance of getting something. I hate that, it reminds me of too many F2P/P2W games I’ve played over the years where everything is designed to funnel you into the cash shop (the cynic in me says it’s a miracle there isn’t a gold find boost in the gem store yet, and figures with the way income methods keep getting nerfed it’s on the way, but I hope he’s wrong), but I digress.
We’re just expressing realistic expectations based on the last event, we could be entirely wrong XD
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
Unfortunately people will try to fault the event, but dont listen to them guys
I expect prices of stuff to increase again. With wintersday so near and ecto prices still high, I expect them to release a “limited time only” recipe which involves ectos and t6, that’ll make ectos around 40-50s.
After that cynicism, here’s some weapon skins I might be interested in
Snowball rifle – shoots snowballs
candycane mace – er.. mace that looks like a candycane
A snowman costume (that you can use for costume brawls. THEY’RE BACK!)
A mini-game kinda like the ones we had in halloween but with a wintersday theme.
ANet should know from experience, that during events more players log in and want to play. And the nature of those events is that lots of players are funneled into very few maps. It was the same in Gw1 too. They should have 8 years of experience by now. Yet during Halloween we had problems. Ok, first event. Then Lost Shores came. Same thing. So for wintersday I expect the very same problems.
As for GemStore stuff. We had a chest for every event by now. Mad Kings and consortium. They will add costumes too probably. It’s natural. That’s how they make money. But you don’t have to spend a cent on a lot of it. Unique skins of weapons? Check TP. They’ll show up there. Minis? TP. Townclothing? When do you ever wear that?

Ok, just to be clear, let’s run down the line…I own two GW accounts that have all three campaigns and EoTn (one account is all collector’s editions); I bought the BMP and nearly every costume available since they were introduced (couldn’t bring myself to buy the mantle outift); I bought mercenary slots for each of my eight characters, maxed out my storage and bought who knows how many make-over kits. For kitten’s sake, I have an Eve standee in my game room!
For GW2 I have the CE, artbook, Charr plushie, soundtrack, CE strategy guide, normal strategy guide, nine character slots, six bank tabs, max bags on three characters so far.
So I have absolutely no problem tossing money at ArenaNet, paying for their content and contributing to future development. I have been doing it for years.
But I will never give them a dime for keys, chests or any more costumes (until we get a costume NPC or locker). It has nothing to do with the company wanting to make money. I want them to make money. It has everything to do with nearly a decade of ArenaNet always giving players their moneys worth, when the players choose to give them more money. Giving them value for their continued patronage. RNG holiday/event gimmicks are uncharacteristic of the company.
And it makes me a little sad.
Which is why I ended my speculation with the hope that Wintersday comes with a change of heart and tactics from the folks running BLTC.
Dragonbrand
1-2 jumping puzzles.
1 temporary new zone
a one time event that will be a let down.
more cash shop items.
a new armor/weapon set
bugged events
winterday-chests that have a small chance of containing mini pets, weapon skins and 90% of the time will contain holiday miscs.
2 new costumes (one for guys and one for the girls)
a holiday hat (sorry i thought this was anet not valve)
some balance changes.
more cash shop items.
did i mention more cash shop items?
Judging by previous Events/Patches it’ll be a kittenen travesty of lag, greed and poor QA.
Oh, and it will be “Well received”
Unfortunately people will try to fault the event, but dont listen to them guys
Yeah that’s what usually happens and usually broken things don’t get fixed and improvements aren’t made……..
Polymok. With the closed (but taged) gate in rata sum that go’s to the arena and tixx being a toy maker i see us getting it some time this mounth.
For any one ho dosnt know mini pets are toys broght to life in lore
<Not participating…They need to work on the core game mechanics and fix all the class and game bugs that have been around since beta which the forums are screaming out for. Then you concentrate on new content with fuzzy hats and bobbles on…bah humbug!
Peppermint shields + candy cane swords
come on baby … bring it back
There will be a ton of things, Wintersday has always been a huge thing, and fun.
Icy Beetle derby racing too (just a hope), that was always a blast. Let’s go polar express style, and get some ninja asura’s diving out from the toyship to place the tree topper ;-)
And who doesn’t like the nog’ … town quizzes / emotes – come on where’s your wintersday spirit. New pre-cursor… like ’ lump of coal’ :-0 should be handed out to the nay-sayers. That way they get a pre-cursor and anet gets a kick out of it in the spirit of giving. Imagine the forum explode then.
I heard that on WintersDay they will run a script to award the rewards…:)
I think well see the first flying squirrels (Skritt) trying to rob the presents from Tixx’s Air balloon. =s
i am so excited for wintersday but they haven’t made any announcements…
Toymaker Tixx carpet-bombs Lion’s Arch from his unnecessarily-menacing airship. Calling it right now. Also snowball fights.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
A really fun winterday event overshadowed by really crappy RNG chest’s. After lost shore’s i’m really hesitant to get gem’s. Would much rather be able to buy the skin’s/mini’s from the gem shop not a random gamble.
Colin Johanson on how arenanet measures success
I, for one, plan to exhange for as many gems as possible before the event in order to capitalize on increased prices once they release the holiday items.

God forbid a company try’s to make money off a product they aren’t charging you a monthly fee for by offering skins/minis/etc for a straight up gem cost, instead of subject to gambling RNG.
