Was looking through value on various holiday items I have stored, and came across something on GW2 Efficiency that caught my attention.

On July 1st 2016 at 1:26 (timezone not known), the supply of Wintersday Gifts was 44,089

by 7:08 (roughly 6 hours later), the supply was 107,434.

Wonder why.

Someone(s) dumped their stash?

Depends whether the price changed much.
It’s either a calculated investment if it rised, or just a dump if not.

Perhaps someone(s) that had been away from the game for..oh..6 months.

also depending on the timezone 7:08 could be just after reset and 63345 people listed there gift from the tree in there home instance

Periodically, there are price spikes for high-demand items that do not currently drop in the game (e.g. Wintersday Gifts). When that happens, many folks who are hoarding them decide to sell and the effect snowballs. You end up with massive supply changes in a short period.

(Although it could have been a single person returning to the game and dumping their supply. I know a number of people that bought tens of thousands of gifts in December 2015 with the expectations that they could profit from them during summer 2016.)

The price has been creeping up recently. I sold a few hundred of mine for that reason.

Yes. This commonly happens in all MMOs right before|after|during big patches.
