Q:
I’m looking at getting a new mouse cause I’m tired of the $20 mice I keep buying dying on me. I want a wireless with at least 4 buttons, good battery life, and will last me for longer than a year (is this even possible?). Not too many buttons though, I won’t use more than 10. Any suggestions?
Perhaps the Logitech Performance Mouse MX? It seems to have the right amount of buttons for me…

I really like my Logitech G700. I think the current model is the G702, but you might want to check on that.
It has 4 thumb-buttons, which I consider a perfect number as it’s not going full “MMO Mouse”, while still offering you more than the usual 2 thumb-buttons. I use one for “push to talk” for example and would really miss it if it was elsewhere.
It also has both a wired and wireless option. Wireless is fine, especially if you use a Laptop but obviously the power will always run-out in the least opportune moments. So now I removed the battery pack and just use it as a regular cable mouse.
The price is rather high admittedly but if it were to break, I’m pretty sure I’d buy the same model again. I’ve also been using it for 4 years now and it has never caused me any problems. Just make sure to keep your environment around the PC relatively clean and dust-free.
On my laptop, I’ve got a wireless Logitech mouse that serves me well enough. For my desktop rig, I’ve got the RAT 3 gaming mouse, and that feels pretty darn good to play. It’s wired, but it’s for a desktop, so who cares?
My husband has the wireless Razer Naga Epic (I have the wired version). It has about 14 buttons, but I don’t think it’s really that many. I use 1-10 for skills and one of the extra buttons for push-to-talk on Team Speak. Instead of having batteries, you plug it in when it needs to charge (and can use it wired that way).
Corollary question: Have wireless mice gotten more responsive? I used one in WoW many many years ago, but swapped back to wired when I discovered I literally could not do the torch juggling achieve without borrowing my husband’s large heavy wired mouse for the purpose. Even my raiding got better when I moved to wired even though I was never a hotkey clicker — but I do move with the mouse and my reactions were just enough faster with the wired one to get me out of fire in time.
i use the logitech performance mx for years now and i’m very content with it. it’s not a gaming mouse by design but as a allaround mouse it’s amazing. i have a glass table so darkfield was a good option for me (glass+darkfield=minimum friction=maximum precision without moving your hand more than 1 cm). you can change pretty much everything with setpoint, too. however, you should test it out first, it might be uncomfortable if you have too big/small hands.
@donari: yes they have. i can only talk for the lpmx but there is no latency or any difference to a cable mouse as far as i can determine it whatsoever.

If you want a decent dirt cheap mouse, the E-Blue Cobras are pretty good. 2 thumb buttons and a dpi changer that can also work as a physical button to quickly change sensitivity. Only probably was that it was harder to aim with in Planetside 2, but it wasn’t a problem in every other game I’ve played. Also the buttons on the red version that I had gotten, lost their “click” after about 1500 hours of game time, however my blue version (that I had gotten before the red) still works quite nicely. Guess it might be hit or miss with these, but hey, 10 bucks.
Personally I don’t like skills on my mice and only have dodge and target on my thumb buttons. If you feel like you need a fancy mouse with lots of buttons to map all you skills out, you could try using esdf instead of wasd for extra buttons.
I use the Mad Catz RAT 9 wireless and I love it. Very responsive, lots of buttons, easy to set up macros, extra battery…. battery lasts about 6 hrs of straight gaming
