I am sure this will go over like a lead balloon, but, as long as Anet says WvW is a part of map completion, they should make it so you can, upon going in, set a tag to ‘mapping’ and make you unattackable. Make it only able to be set upon entering, and cannot be changed until you leave. Make it for a set time (say an hour per BL), and if you are in one place (a space a set number of units in size) for more than 5 minutes, it boots you from the BorderLands. And you can only use it once per BL, per day. This would stop people from using a tag as an escape, prevent scouts from using it for scouting keeps, and give those of us who don’t WvW a chance to get our mapping done without being constantly killed.

Let the attack on this idea begin.

With one hour per player guilds could easily take turns scouting. Invulnerable scouts would be OP.

Their is also the issue of using an invulnerable player to charge in and be the focus of fire – a common tactic with guardians, but it would be totally OP with an hour of invulnerability.

Lastly, they put map completion in a WvW map for a reason. So you’d have to risk your rear end to get them. No risk, no reward.

If it makes you completely neutral, and blocks you from seeing other players it could work, otherwise people will tag up and use it to trail zergs and warn their team. I like the concept, particularly as a way to get those hard to reach spots that don’t flip that often, Ogre and Overwatch come to mind, but I am not sure how well this could be implemented without being abused.

As a player that has struggled mightily with map completion in WvW…and am still only at 96% with a relatively slim chance of sticking it out…

I have to say that I am okay with the current system. I will likely not get the map completion which is disappointing to me. I do, however, look at those that have done it with some degree of admiration for their achievement. I know others may feel differently but I am okay with having things like this in the game that I will inevitably not be able to do…so long as the vast majority of the game is within my reach (which it is).

This will never happen.

You miss the point, and WvW is all about flipping structures and castles, so you can always find every point (it can take you some time) but still its not something impossible. (folloing a zerg will get you arround 80% completion).

They called us TEMPESTs, but we can use our elite to cheat death instead

Here’s what you do if you don’t like WvW:

Every day you log in don’t do anything until you get something in WvW if your side owns something you don’t have at the time. Some days it will just be a POI in a camp. Other days you’ll get lucky and get a castle or one day you’ll get SMC. And if you’re lucky, your side is doing really well and you have a lot of stuff.

If you see your side has SMC, immediately get into WvW and head there. It is the hardest thing to flip.

POI’s and Vistas not inside of castles or keeps.

Especially now with free repairs, just run in to get them! Do this is especially on maps that the enemy owns primarily. Why? Camps aren’t where zergs gather in maps they own a lot of. They’re in a castle or keep so that they don’t have to worry about getting attacked without plenty of notice.

It took me about 2-3 weeks of casual play to get it. And don’t like WvW all that much. It was more fun than I imagined it would be, but not something I do at all regularly or for all that long.

I got my 100% world when the game launched because back then we could server transfer all the time for free so yeah i did as many people did and server transfer to other 2 servers and got all wvw maps in like 2 hours.
Now however you need to spend gems and you can only transfer once every 7 days and you have wvw restrictions when you do transfer.
So if you are on a server that is for example red, it could easy be that you never EVER get to be for example blue, and if you are on server that is not dominating then chances of you getting garrison that is controlled by home server are zero (0).
I do not mind doing wvw for 100% map but then anet swhould make POI/Vista on places where players can get to with some effort…..but having to conquer opposite team garrison to get them is just ridiculous because not all servers can dominate….and even if they dominate there are high chance of failure.

Exactly this is how I did it. If you’re working towards a legendary, start early on. You will definitely have it mapped out by the time you need it.

It’s not a big deal if you get killed a few times.

If you just care about map completion, wait until your server have the poi or vista. Chances are you won’t even see much enemy.

I’m still working on WvW completion on my active characters, but honestly I don’t think it needs to (or should) change. It’s not as difficult as you make it out to be.

You can get most POIs just by following a commander. You can get all the areas done on your world’s side of the map pretty easily without a zerg, though, so if you’d rather not wander into enemy territory or actually participate in WvW, just wait until your server’s a different color, and once again you can easily grab all the map stuff in that color’s area. Takes a bit of time, since you’re waiting a week or so in between explorations to get more map done, but it’s much easier than you’d think.

This is so true, although most games have the same problem with their players.

May I get a “mapping” tag for mapping Cursed Shores? Those nasty risen are always keeping me away from the few points I still need. Sounds silly, but why should Cursed Shores be in any way different where dangers of exploration are concerned than the WvW maps?

Starting early actually is a good tip. I’ve got the WvW maps completely explored on four (or is it five already?) characters, going a bit at a time whenever the maps looked helpful, and each of them got those maps explored fully long before they got to 100%. At least two of them got it done before I even started getting involved in WvW, just by running for whatever points I was missing when they were in my server’s favour. Off-peak hours like early Sunday mornings are great for this.

Plus I’ve got one character who got all of her WvW maps done on a server that was the absolute bottom of the barrel at the time, rarely ever blue and never ever green, but outnumbered on pretty much every map all the time (except maybe sometimes EB). I fondly remember the night I was 3-manning the green borderland’s keeps with two random strangers I had met while trying for some missing POIs, and thus finally completing the last of the WvW maps on her.

To make a long story short: Yes, mapping the WvW maps can be a nuisance, especially if you are not into WvW and/or are unlucky with server pairings, but it’s no more or less of a nuisance than some other (PvE) maps are to other players. Just keep checking back into WvW whenever you’ve got time to spare and see if you can’t get a few of the missing points. You’ll get there in the long run, we all have. Good luck!

I finished100% world on 1 toon, back in late 2012, and will never do that again on any of my 4 other toons as long as WvW mapping remains part of the task.

The notion of being forced into another game mode, whether I liked it or not, in order to do a PvE task, bothered me to the point where I never went back into WvW once I had finished mapping there.

one might argue, well, at least some part needed for legendaries could require some effort. But I am kinda tired of arguing against turning the game into complete facerolling. Just put gift of exploration into the shop, 25 bucks, done. At least the discussion can then shift to p2w, another colourful topic.

Tbf, WvW isn’t challenging. It’s just annoying and requires patience. (keep checking in to see if the poi’s etc are open by your colours.).

What really annoys me about WvW, is that 3 maps are EXACTLY the same and you have to map each one.
It would be much easier if you only need to map one, as you can move to the next server, and you’re likely to have the corner you didn’t have in the first etc. It’s so boring to repeat that one after the other.

__
and…….., I’d pay 50 quid for complete map exploration on alts so I didn’t have to repeat it XD, and it wouldn’t be too much paid to win, thats like 600gs, Easy to get 100g per month. So 6 months of dung runs or whatever to buy instead of exploring. I’d go for that, when I get bored of mapping XD

I have had to finish one POI on ONE borderlands map, to finish all my map completion, and I cannot for almost 2 months as my server keeps winning and gets put on same side for that borderlands map…

I am all for the neutral thing, but make it so you can’t see enemy players, so it can’t be abused. Or just remove map completion from wvw like ANET had the sense to do with the Mists map…
