How am I supposed to farm with a glass cannon class?

I know that the new AI (which now aggros to things along its path instead of only aggroing once it reaches a certain destination) is to prevent botting…but how am I as a legitimate player supposed to farm as a glass cannon built Ele?

There are still quite a few people – enough so that if you don’t tag early, you won’t get loot. But in order to get tags, even with a high damage build, you need to be close enough to tag the mobs as they pop-in, or they die too quickly. In that case, they simply aggro to you as the lowest armor target and annihilate you in under a second before they take a dirt nap. Not to mention that, because they now stop in place instead of moving in a specified paths, it’s nearly impossible to get a decent number of tags per wave because the size of our AoE is limited and on a cooldown, because they tend to scatter in random locations.

Thankfully I’m not planning on farming hardcore again until I get my guardian to Cursed Shore – but for others who are limited solely to one class – why are you once again punishing low armor classes while reward faceroll melee classes that spam and tag everything?

Grinding Cursed Shore was painful enough. Coming back to it later and seeing some of these changes is making me really glad I finished up with it and got my Ele his cultural beforehand. :/

Apart from the fact that I find enemies aggroing everything within their path pretty annoying as well – solo farming with a glass-cannon ele just might not be the best idea :/
Have you considered playing that build in a group or trying a slightly less squishy build for solo farming?

Now there will be players telling you not to play glass-cannon, these will be the same people telling you that you should play this game with your style. I know.

It’s not about playing you style or not – it’s just that not every playstyle will work in every environment. You do need to switch strategies from time to time – e.g. while it might be fun to play a MM in normal PvE (not oh so very effective, but usually doable), it just won’t work in a dungeon.
When you want to play a glass-cannon ele, you just might need to look for a group to farm Orr with – or get better at dodging. Or accept that you will have a higher mortality rate…

Well Cursed Shore is ment for groups not singles.

I’m not going to make this a thread about glass cannon specifically because it’ll turn into me making long angry posts – I’m just upset that in addition to having an easier time running and an easier time tagging mobs, tanky classes now also have the advantage of not getting focused down in seconds when the enemies aggro to them.

The failsafe to botting should not have included screwing over players for how they choose to play their characters. Elementalists were glass nukers in GW1. That’s how I want to play mine in GW2. The fact that I can’t farm because of that decision is not okay, and I think Anet would agree. Similarly, there’s also no reward for going full support – which also needs to be addressed.

I’m not sure where you got this idea.

Dungeons are meant for groups because they are crafted explicitly for 5 people. Every other instance in the game is meant to be solo-able. That’s the entire game’s credo.

Actually, No. There was an interview or article somewhere that mentioned that yes, there will be areas in open world PvE that are more geared towards group play (= more of a challenge to solo players). That was quite some time before release though…I’ll post a link when I find it.

Btw: By group play I don’t necessarily mean coordinated groups of 5 people, but rather “running along with other players”.

I’m a glass cannon elementalist and wear full magic find gear, so I’m additionally down a stat. Note that the devs (or at least the dungeon dev) balance damage around glass cannon specs having at least 14k health.

I solo farm in Cursed Shore quite easily, and I pull groups of 3-10. You just have to press dodge once in a while. If you get pulled, knocked down, stunned or immobilized a lot, you’re trying to play like a warrior.

Put a dagger in your off hand. Killing a groups of mobs is pretty much as easy as going Churning Earth + Signet of Air.

Just wait until they allow mobs to dodge and intelligently avoid AoEs.

If you are doing the plinx route, you shouldn’t have a problem farming at all. A lot of people are there who kill trash mobs and for the event mobs, as long as you know where they’ll spawn, just start an AoE right before they load you’ll get credit for it. I get ksed quite a bit by eles dropping meteor shower.

If they can intelligently avoid AoEs then you could AoE force them into a corner so it wouldn’t be all bad =)
