So, if you buy the game now you get a wizard hat. Do the people who already own the game get a wizard hat?

It’s clear that anyone who buys a new account during this “limited time” will get the promotional item for it. That should hold regardless if you’ve previously purchased it or not.

I’m interested in this as well. Considering I paid for digital deluxe for full price, and just a few months have gone by with it now being free with purchase… just a little upsetting.

Sure, I should have waited. I did expect the price to drop eventually. I just didn’t expect the price to not only drop this soon, but also an exclusive item bundled with a package I previously purchased.

Oh well, if this is how ANet wants to do business, teaches me as a consumer to be smarter with my $$$ next time. : /

Oh wonderful. What a cool looking hat! I’m so glad I bought the Collector’s Edition April 10th in support of ANet, and proceeded to buy many Gems. I can’t wait to wear that in Lion Ar— wait, only for those buying it now?
You mean to tell me because we didn’t wait to buy a product since we were anticipating it and wanted to show how much we wanted it; means we get less stuff than someone who wasn’t buying the product until it got cheaper?
Yikes, I better wait a few months after ANet releases something so I can get cooler stuff at a discounted price.

But seriously, If this is only for those buying it now then that’s hilariously depressing; I will definitely have to reconsider buying things on launch and waiting until they start passing out exclusive items to spite those morons who bought to soon.

Lol, I tried to google for an image, but nothing is posted yet. If it’s different than the Halloween hat, I really think this could be an easy fix. Just offer it for free in the Black Lion store for a short period of time.

Of course, if ArenaNet wants to keep this exclusive then yeah, that kind of stinks lol.

Except a car is a physical item with certain expensive requirements to be upgraded. A digital game doesn’t have those problems and is in an entirely different category. Don’t compare apples to oranges.

i disagree. you think upgrades in game are inexpensive? do anet employes work for love? but you are misunderstanding me anyway. what im trying to say is that if you bought a product then you got what you paid for already so what exactly is this thread about i will never understand…

Personally I think the developers and arena nets representatives are being way too nice in the way they deal with us customers. They are spoiling us, and divide they we’re turning into these greedy entitled little brats.

I’m glad in the recent posts made by Gail that her tone shifted towards a much more frank and in your face attitude. I mean if the player demands are so unreasonable in arena nets should have no hesitation to let the player base know how unreasonable they are being.

I think this being a free to play game really makes it a valuable purchase and at the same time you have to realize that if they gave all these items away then people would have less incentive to buy things from the gem store. Besides game purchases the gem store is the only other source of profit.

At least Valve never forgot about old players. They always got the new promos too or got their current item upgraded(to vintage) if they released it again.

I have to say I feel that those who already have the digital editions should also receive the promo items. It’s a bit unfair otherwise.

Look at it this way. Because you purchased early you were able to get the special GW2 baseball cap, the halloween witch hat, and the halloween devil horns. People who purchase now for the promo will only have a wizard hat. Seems like you made a smart decision to me, unless you value the appearance of wizard hats so much that it is worth more than the 3 other items.

This is like every other game ever. Latecomers get things like DLC and special items thrown in. It drives up sales. You could have waited to buy it, and gotten a better deal. Just like Guild Wars 1 costed about $150 if you bought the game and each expansion as they came out, but now only costs $20. Or how so many other MMOs throw in pets or mounts or whatever if you buy a new copy.

Besides, the hat’ll probably show up on the gem store in a month or so.

It’s not like a new model coming out after a year. It’s more like 2 months after you buy the shiny new car they say “Alright, buy the car now, and get all the upgrades for free, plus a set of unique rims to say you were cool and bought the car early.” The free upgrades are a promo, the prestige item is a slap in the face to people that put their faith and money into Anet months ago, and is counter-intuitive to the way hats and costumes worked in GW1.

Interestingly enough, this is the first decision they’ve made that’s made me straight up angry, cause there’s no way to do this the “right way,” except giving us the hat.

I felt bad for spending $20 on the digital deluxe version when I realized I could get it with in-game gold, especially in the first couple months when gem to gold ratios were insanely low. Now, I’m just hoping Anet hands out this wizard hat to everyone., and it better not look like the witch hat either.

Well, this is only a marketing idea for Christmas, like every other special out there for the season. I hope it will convince some of my friends to pick up the game. It is really fun

I’ll be telling my friends to wait till anet offers a free upgrade to collectors edition and a free set of exclusive skinnable obsidian armour for new purchases come boxing day.

Is not the special price people are complaining about, we had no problem with the same special deal newcomers got during the Lost Shore weekend. Is the exclusive hat which angered the people. Sure, is just a stupid hat, but making it unobtainable for “early birds” is just stupid. For a collector of exclusive items this is just a nightmare. You can’t get the hat unless youre a newcomer but then you don’ have the previeous things, because they are on a different account.

Just make the deluxe edition free for everyone and give those who bought it already free gems, it’s not fair that loyal customers are getting ripped off like this.

Can we get a dev resonse on this? You seem to be alienating us loyal customers that already have DDE/CE edition. Are we going to be getting a chance to get the wizard hat?
