As we know from the interview, one of the guild missions revolves around the guild travelling around the world to beat certain bosses within a time limit.

So, my question is: are those bosses scaled in any way? It’s kind of a dilemma I guess, but I could totally see random noobs in queensdale that ramp up a bosses’ being yelled at because the scaling as more of a hindrance then actual help.

If it were not scaled, well… That would be a problem for small guilds and empty severs everywhere.

From what we know, they can participate and help out and get personal rewards for that in the end. Why would they just stand around?

What if like, when you start a guild mission, it spawns the boss, and bystanders kill it before anyone guild-related can get there?

This response is not 100% accurate, yes you may get karma but you may still be locked out from chest events since they are based off the amount of participation.

But how does that play out with the “opportunity system”. Say a guild is doing a guild event and the encounter target is at 50% or less and since participation in the encounter for loot drop is based on damage and nothing else that I’m aware of the said guild has players downed I come up on the scenario what should I do if I start to damage said boss the damage already done will exclude me from drop and rezzing down players isn’t counted as participation and even lessens my damage participation in this scenario the best thing for me to do is keep on about my business and let the event fail.

In this case, only guilds who currently have the mission to kill the boss will be able to initiate the event to do so. At that point any player can jump in and assist. If they earn participation, they’ll be presented with the event’s rewards. The guild members who participated in that event will receive an additional reward, which should be explain in an upcoming blog post (real soon).

Actually it still depends on the reward. If it is deemed useless or too much trouble for the gain, players may not actively help out yet still contributing to difficulty scaling. Maybe they will just kill 1 or 2 mob or something then go do their own stuff. This can already be seen from some of the DE which hardly anyone wants to do.

I’m seeing this more and more, players turn up see you doing an event then join in do a bit then run off leaving you to either fail or do it solo, happened twice to me yesterday, its really annoying and if i see it again i’ll fail the event just lower their rewards…

I hope guild events wont work like this..

I see this all day I’m out in the open world. Just 1 person won’t cause the event to scale however, so if you were already soloing it, they shouldn’t cause you to fail.

Unless they simply happened to be passing by, the reason people do this is to get rewarded for doing nothing. Since you were soloing it, it’s extremely easy to get gold contribution by just hitting a few of the mobs and running off.

2 days ago, I killed a few mobs near to the risen giant in straits of devastation. I did other stuff around the zone and eventually went back to lion’s arch. I then logged out. The next day, I logged in and headed back to straits of devastation. After AFKing for a bit… I got rewarded for killing the risen giant. When running around a zone gathering and killing random enemies in the way, I usually get rewarded for at least 3 events, even if the mobs I killed weren’t part of the event, within the hour as other people do them. Contribution at its finest.

I was not thinking they would stand around doing nothing, just that they won’t be able to keep up with the full exotic-bounty hunters who initiated the event in the first place. One example would be that they bring condition builds, which makes them do effectively zero damage while still ramping up the scaling. This could effectively lead to them only extending the time it takes to kill the mob.

Normally, that isn’t much of a problem, but if the timers are supposed to be challenging, it could be.

I don’t think it’s going to be a problem. Things only scale a certain amount anyway, and even with the condition build guys, all the big world events are doable. And a lot of guys who do conditions also do healing and stuff like that, so they can help in that way. A staff mesmer using chaos storm will do conditions as well as grant boons to allies, which will help.

I think we’ll have to see how it works but I doubt very much it’s going to be a problem.

Set up the run with your guild and keep it a secret from the rest of the player base. If only damage dealing guild mates are there you have no problem. If some condition damage toons show up make condecending comments and then run away to find another empty zone to do events in.

Yes, this is exactly what I think will happen, despite what the marketing department thinks players will do… Note I did not say that I adcovate this behavior, I just think that it would occur as the logical thing to do for some.

Simple solution would be to limit the distance you are required to be from the event in order to get credit, no matter how much or how little participation is given. And that distance should be `not far.`

I am surprised this wasnt implemented from the get-go tbh.

By definition, a guild is: “An association of people for mutual aid or the pursuit of a common goal.”

The official wiki even states: “Guilds are formal groupings of players that enable them to play together more effectively and reward them for doing so.”

Doesn’t matter what the interwebz definition is. It remains a fact that a guild can be created with just 1 player. Stop extracting statements to answer something you didn’t read.

No one is asking for the definition of the word guild.

If people expect guild content to be designed with 1-player guilds in mind, then yes, the definition was needed. Being able to create a guild with one member doesn’t mean it can fully function without needing more.

Therefore the asker was asking what if he’s in the guild alone? Will he be able to experience guild missions? There’s always a possibility of a one man guild whether it is intended or not.

IF he manages to get enough influence on his own to unlock and start the guild missions AND if he somehow finds enough people to help him then yes, it’s possible – as far as I know.

The first gmission available requires art of war level 5. I doubt any single player guild has that unlocked.
I would assume that if you can get that unlocked and then earn enough influence to kick off the mission it would allow you to. I also doubt that it would be able to be completed solo though.
