This is an MMO. Most people don’t play it for fun. They play it because they need the next dopamine hit of that sweet, sweet loot-drop. It’s why the Legendary Weapon system is so ingenious. One giant hit that you get by farming lots of little hits over and over. It’s insidious!

I have about 2g on me right now. Been playing since release. One T3 piece, and commander which someone bought for me. I would love to be in your position!

kill world bosses and make money off the rares lol. That’s how I started. I usually play the tp for like 30 minutes a day too which lands me around a gold or two

Not sure what your question is exactly, but doing world events between wandering around doing DE’s netted me ~100 gold in less than a month, and I had loads of fun doing all of it.

Judging by the “I’m bored” and “I have too much money” threads, i would say people are bored and rich, or poor and frustrated. Sooner or later the poor will become the other, and be in the same situation.

What is important is that people not speed run through the game, that ruins it entirely. You can make thousands of gold in very short time if all you do is farm and sell, but once you do that you burn yourself out. And I think gamer burnout is a huge problem with this game, and is mostly on the players side of the problem. The game on the other hand is working to move forward with new content and fixes, but they can only do so much so fast. This week I will do my part by buying a crap ton of useless or semi useless things I’ll never use of the BLTC, just to support their hard work :P

You may be surprised to learn that the daily gross product of dozens if not hundreds of farmers can be consumed in minutes by a single industrious power trader (And your pay for your work is out of that one individuals pocket)

I find it fun to find cool new places and meet folks and do things. I don’t understand the living in poverty part of your question at all though. You don’t need gold to do anything fun in GW2

Yet, since this is a video game, I really don’t care about the bourgeoisie TP Barons stepping on my proletarian(moletarian?;) neck. Since it’s not real life I figure we’re all in it for fun: Even though I don’t see how using the game as an economic simulator is fun, a hardcore TP junkie probably doesn’t see how wandering around killing various evil beasts is fun.

I don’t equate having gold in a game with having fun in a game. I have gold…but it isn’t what makes this game fun for me.

Funnily, from my position it looks almost exactly the other way around.

When my buy orders are set, deals are done and flips listed I love to don my shiny exotic armour and pretty skins and go beat up some monsters – maybe try out a new build and go explore the world, go obscure places, find new challenges and champions to try defeating and see what’s lurking out there – always somewhere and something new to try.

I can’t understand how people could be content grinding the same stuff over and over and over day in, day out simply because it’s the fastest way to get gold (Well, fastest way to get gold that doesn’t involve excel and/or a calculator)

This is what I’ve been saying for a long time now. There are plenty of people out there who really do enjoy the world as it is, just because it’s awesome. Not for shiny lootz. Not for making money. Not for competitive achievements.

Just because it’s fun and cool.

Well I don’t do it because it’s the fastest way to get gold, I do it because it’s intrinsically fun to do, at least for me. I really don’t care about the gold or shinies, honestly. I only saved the ~100g so I wouldn’t be scraping by leveling my next alt like I’d been for the first two.
