I’ve already done it once and find it painful to do it again. It’s such a boring chore. I would pay money to unlock all POI’s, vista’s and way-points with the exception of skill points. No rewards.

If they would remove the WvWvW requirement for exploration I would find it much less intimidating. For me, personally, this is the biggest reason why I will never get map completion.

I echo the WvW sentiment.
PvE players should not have to deal with it, much like WvW players shouldn’t have to deal with exploring 95% of a map they may never use.

Necessity for those wanting Legendary weapons, completely optional for everyone else. If you don’t enjoy it, then why bother? Since you’ve already got the achievement and title, there’s not much you’ll gain by doing it again.

Pretty much this. I have 100% on one and unless something changes to give me more incentive I won’t have it on any other.

It’s no biggy really…..
8 chars and 6 have world complete so far, my 7th just needs 2 more WvW maps which wont take long then I start on my 8th. 1 map a day is not so hard/boring to do and it’s not a bad way to lvl up fast-ish while learning your new class.

In fact once I’m done with my 8th char I might struggle to find things to do lol…

Why do this mission? XP to level me up to a point I can use really sweet loot.

For me world exploration is definitely an achievement. In fact I’d say it’s my main focus in the game. It’s taking me ages because unlike a lot of people I’d never be happy just rushing around checking off all the points as quickly as possible, I’m taking my time talking to the NPCs, watching their dialogue with each other, exploring random corners of the map…

When I found out that getting into the Order of Whispers gets you extra dialogue options with some characters I double backed over some areas I’d already finished to try and find the agents.

I’m fully intending to complete it on all 5 of my main characters eventually.

Single player RPG’s have gear progression too, but as far as I know no one considers it the main reason for playing. I’ve never heard anyone saying a quest in Skyrim isn’t worth doing because the loot isn’t valuable enough, or that they “finished” Dragon Age when they had the best gear. This focus on kitting out your character as the be-all and end-all of the game seems to be unique to MMO’s.

If ANet gave us a gem store item giving us world exploration, or at least a gift of exploration I would buy it. 100% world exploration is probably the most dreadful part of getting my legendary so far, I’m at 51% and can’t be bothered with the remaining 49%, in fact I’d much rather have to grind gold for a precursor than do world completion.

It seems like it should be just the opposite. (Not saying it is).

To me, it seems like an MMO would be the perfect place for cosmetic only gear progression. Remember how ridiculous everyone thought horse armor was an Oblivion, there was no one to show it to. Here everyone can see your armor.

You know you can just forget the world exploration and just farm like crazy and buy one of the tp. yeah more work but if u dont like world exploration u still have that option to get a legendary. Also world exploration isnt so bad if u use it to level up alts not just for the legendary. and its really easy too especially wvw. I found that to be the easiest because i did it slowly.

Once is not bad, fun for the most part, after that it’s a slog.

I hope ANet relents and just drops the exploration item into the achievement tab, so you can just withdraw one (soul/account-bound of course) when you need one.

Or you can just farm like crazy from 0-1700g because considering everything, it is really the most time-efficient option for a Legendary. I think the point of this question though is achieving World Completion by itself, regardless of Legendary. Truth be told, this achievement is not really natural to exploration. And since there are only two kinds of people who will go through the trouble: those who collect achievements and those who are working for legendaries, it is really more of a chore than an achievement in this regard.

This is more so when you compare it to other achievements like Slayers, which comes more naturally.

I don’t know about that, even just having the maps open (which you can do easily enough from clearing maps, at a stretch just leave hearts alone) helps with a lot of other things. Such as fast teleports to places you need to be for guild missions etc, and with any future content they bring it’s always good to have all these maps open.

The problem is that the achievement World Completion itself requires you to find every nook and corner of the required maps: the exact numbers of POI, vistas, skill points and hearts you have to visit and do. You leave even a single one out and you wont be able to get it.

Just roaming around, opening all the waypoints is the natural, casual and more comfortable mode of exploration. But this alone will be far from sufficient to get 100%. There is a point beyond which you really have to go out of your way to get to certain vistas and POIs.

Furthermore, depending on which server you are in, completing the WvW maps can be a breeze or an impossibility. My server is not the strongest server in WvW, but we are also not the weakest. Every rotation, there will be another server whose population just don’t seem to care about WvW completely. Aside from the fact thakittens gonna be much harder for people there to complete WvW maps, the main issue about that is that why should something like a personal achievement be affected by something that cannot be controlled by the person?

Right now, its completely held back by WvW.
I don’t care about going to WvW to map complete or for the jp’s, I have no problem doing it whatsoever.
The hold up is that I need the green borderland map completion. Waiting 3 months for us to be green just once so I can complete it. My server does not WvW (we are last, I believe, or very close to it) and I still even managed to get Stonemist and all of EB.
We’re beating the odds at not being green in a 1 in 3 chance every week for 3 months. By far the most frustrating thing in this game thus far is checking every friday and seeing us blue or red -_-
There’s actually quite a few people in my guild that are in the same situation waiting.

I’ve had the game for say 3 months now and I got world completion a month ago. Wvw proved to be a very, very fun challenge – I honestly loved every second of it. I play on darkhaven and we were against yaks bend and Fergusson (I think). I was just getting into wvw, had zero idea what I was doing and has zero idea it would be the day wvw was resetting. To keep things short, I essentially did all the border lands in a handful of hours with my Mesmer (easy), and then it became evening and I found myself dodging zergs in the Eternal Battlegrounds as darkhaven made an epic stomp on yak’s bend taking over perhaps 70% of the map (including stonemist keep!!). So all I can say was it never felt like a chore but a rush of excitement. And I got lucky xD

I actually like exploring but most of the hearts feel really similar thus boring to do over and over so i normally just do special ones then continue out into the world.

I will agree with most people saying once wasn’t so bad. I do complete maps on my alts, but I’ll never finish world completion on them again unless I ultimately have to for some reason (general pve map completion isn’t boring to me, but its not hard at all either when you know what to do everywhere). The WvW part just took a very long time more then anything. That and all the bugged skill points in Orr back in the day.

I wouldn’t call it a chore compared to doing like weapon master achievements. Especially for off-hands. Have fun farming critters somewhere. >.<

Weapon mastery actually turned out very well for me. Gained a new appreciation for scepter on both elementalist and guardian. I really didn’t like it on either in the beginning but I’ve learned to use it better on both because of doing scepter master. Having to avoid weapon swapping also added an extra bit of challenge. Not going to bother with any of the off hand though.

Back on topic. I have 4×100%, 82%, 59%, 56%, 53%, 46%. Do I think it is a chore? Sometimes but I don’t really do it with world completion as a goal. Completing a map is a decent way to scout the locations of various gathering nodes. The crafting materials and exotics from the higher level zones is also nice too. The main motivator is actually convenience. Having access to every WP on every character is useful for things like guild missions and guild trek or some of the meta. I like switching between characters, not being able to do an event with the character I feel like playing because I don’t have the WP is just annoying. Once you have the WPs the rest can is usually easiest enough that it becomes ‘might as well finish the rest’.

I think world exploration is fine because it gets people back into the world.

However WvW shouldn’t really be included in this because people going in to scout out points of interests, vistas etc. will just annoy the WvWers who want them in the zerg.

The exploration title/achievement in both GW 1 and 2 have little to do with actual exploration. I didn’t mind doing either once, but would not do either a second time.

Then again I feel this way about most achievements. I am not a big fan of giving out rewards for being able to find your posterior with both hands, being able to walk and chew gum at the same time, or managing to kill 50 mobs in 24 hours.
