WOOOOOOORRRRRDDDDDDDDD
Well it is sort of like the Karka event see- it just spans all of Tyria.
You should stick around it is pretty crazy and the rewards are very good. before this event ends you will see plenty of the world.
As for the rest being empty- culling was lifted, I saw people everywhere- not the zerg at the points but still plenty.

Yeah, OP, maybe you should have logged in for more than a second. The event rotates through the world every hour or so, meaning that all those things you asked for like getting people to different parts of the world to fight unique mobs for special drops are happening right now. I just got done going through two areas, one I hadn’t been back to in months. It was kind of wild seeing hundreds of people roaming through these places.
Now that I think about it, I’m not sure this thread wasn’t started as a joke.
Is this going to interfere with our normal Norma Temple-running schedule tonight??
Should we just call those off and let people drrp around for the next few days?

So yeah, that incentives us to go to one place and farm… not really explore the world.

Incentive = dirty word. I could only guess that the word incentive makes a developer cringe.

Have you really seen all of it though? While leveling, I hardly had time to “stop and smell the roses” as they say. From Waypoint to Waypoint, Vista to Vista, PoI to PoI, and Hearts to Hearts. Sure, while making my way to the unexplored areas I’d move my camera around to check stuff out, but that was mainly to avoid small mobs while constantly hitting my Sword 2 and Warhorn 4 skills, for an IMS.
I’m nearly done with the Map Exploration achievement, but I fully intend to go back and just “look” at stuff. Guild Wars was a beautiful game, and still is ( RoF Island, Pre-Searing Ascalon, and Unwaking Waters area ) . With better graphics, GW2 is nice looking too. To me, that is the incentive to really do some map exploration. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need an Achievement for everything in-game.
Personally, I’m really looking forward to re-visiting all of Ascalon, and the Shiverpeaks. Really, really, really, really, hope I can explore the RoF Islands again, along with just about all of Factions.
It’s not about needing incentive to explore a world you’ve already explored.
It’s about re using this massive awesome world so it’s not going to waste.
It’d be awesome to continually have other things to do in the old zones besides 100%’ing it and w/e little living story events.
Like fluff rewards, lots and lots of them.
All I saw was a big zerg of not very good players literally running directly through & ignoring the normal zone events & even Zone champs (and passing up those coffers) to beat on some Aetherblades & some reskinned Steam Creatures.
I guess it was to be expected though… This is the audience they’ve cultivated.
I just logged out and gave up when it became apparent that we didn’t have enough people to pull off capturing any of the temples afterwards.

Is there going to be more incentive for people to go back and explore the world? Special mobs that spawn? Special Loot? Anything?
That doesn’t work.
People don’t want to explore the world, or they would be doing it without the need for rewards (aka “incentive”). People want to exploit. ArenaNet’s attempt to make more people play in Orr has completely backfired, as it led exploiters to fill a single one out of the three maps, and actually enter in conflict with players who were trying to play the game as intended.
Giving “incentives” for people to explore would create basically the same scenario – the same exploiters would flock to the single most profitable area, and leave the rest of the world empty. We already saw that in dungeons (CoF1 was filled, everything else empty), in the open world when farming champions (Cursed Shore was filled with people, no one was at Malchor’s Leap), of course the same thing would happen if exploration or dynamic events had better rewards.
ArenaNet could make a very convoluted system so players are rewarded once per day per map. What would be the point? The players seeking the most profitable things are not those who are nice to hang with – they are the exploiters who were making death threats in map chat for people who were playing the game as intended, and the elitists who kicked people at the last boss of a dungeon for dying once in the middle of the run.
If most of the players don’t want to do Dynamic Events or explore, either ArenaNet has to make content for a minority, or they have to assume that the DE and the exploration systems have failed, and give the grinders things to grind without messing the rest of the game. Trying to “force” the grinders to have fun in the open world does not work, as we have already seen.
If you travel around the map to get 100% world completion you’ve seen all the content.
You are missing the entire point of the Dynamic Events system.

This is a short term event… I am not sure what the issue here is. We aren’t even sure what is going to happen in 4 weeks from now when this event ends.

The new invasion events happen in 13 different areas of the world and events happen all over each area. I’d hardly call that all staying in 1 area while the rest of the world is dead, you just need to find the right area for the hourly invasion, it’s a different one each hour.

100% map completion yes, 100% world completion no.
I got my 100% world completion and Gift long before I ever visited Aurora’s Remains, for instance.
Unfortunately I have to agree with Erasculio’s assessment here. Whenever any new content comes out, it doesn’t take long for the min-maxers (call them “grinders”, “exploiters”, whatever, you know the type of player I’m talking about) to discover the way to get the most profit in the shortest amount of time. They then do this activity 24/7, which forces other players to join in for fear (sometimes well-justified) of being left behind.
Sprinkling incentives throughout the world is nice, but it doesn’t solve the root cause of the problem. (And unfortunately, the only way to fix that is to have every kind of reward in the game be “easy to obtain”. And then people would get upset because everybody has a Legendary and all the titles and they don’t feel unique and special anymore.)

Being for ~30 minutes on a overflow distric that says “This world is not under Scarlet atack please travel to your home world.”
Just dont do this kind of events on your system please, it looks real bad.

Maybe those invasions are not as temporary as you think…
ah yes, the new permanent temporary content … static events that move … but it won’t take long for a website to tell you where to zerg to.
… the countdown begins …
I use the current one to avoid the zerg, is rather a handy feature to know where the lag fest is going to be next.
There is no reason to really EXPLORE the world, and nothing listed above gives us a reason to go out and seek hidden areas, treasures…
Everywhere just tells you where to go Zerg… that isn’t incentive, that is just calling everyone to an area to say: DO X.
That isn’t exploring…

There was rarely a reason to explore in Guild Wars 1, aside from the Cartographer title. And that was more a reason to use TexMod to search for scraping points once you hit 99%
