So I’m kind of curious; are the various Worlds in GW2 known for being better/dedicated to certain things? Have they self-sorted into various specializations (IE: PvP, PvE, RP etc.) or are they all kind of a general clump with no specifics? They’re no labelled like servers in say, WoW or TERA, so I was wondering if players had done it themselves or if that kind of distinction never came out.

PvE and sPvP are both on megaservers (the maps/matches draw from every server in a region either EU or NA). For WvW check the current rankings for the region. The higher ranked the server the more WvW players they have.
There are no official RP servers but the two unofficial ones are Tarnished Coast (NA) or Piken Square (EU).

In GW2, server selection could easily be renamed “WvW team selection”

In practice that is now the only place it actually matters.

In PvP and PvE you’ll be matched with and on maps with people from every server in your region due to the matchmaking/megaserver mechanics.

I don’t really pay much attention to the cliques or stereotypes, generally.

Blacktide (US) and Desolation (EU) have a reputation for being the best, generally. They are good at WvW and I believe they were the first servers to nail Tequatl and TT Wurm when they were released.

Tarnished Coast (I think?) and a few others have a reputation for being the unofficial RP communities, but I guess this isn’t so important after the megaserver change (as with a lot of these generalisations).

As an EU player, I often find that the language-specific servers are often really organised and co-ordinated. They often rock WvW and seem to be more “hardcore” compared to the non-language-specific ones.

There was a time when Underworld was seen as a very casual, inactive server. A lot of the large guilds in UW moved to other servers which made it feel very empty for a time. The population in LA was noticeably decreasing week-by-week (before megaservers, of course). Since then I think a lot of guilds jumped in to UW to re-establish the WvW there.

It’s Blackgate not Blacktide. Blacktide is the very bottom of the EU rankings for WvW

Ah yes, thanks for correcting me.
