I mean for this to be a very civilised remark, but… i think it’s becoming a bit silly, how much it costs to actually transfer between worlds (i’m from the EU servers). When i joined, i had no-one i was playing with, so i picked my own world.. now i’ve met a few in-game friends, and i’d like to swap worlds to be able to WvW with them, which sounds very fun to do. My own world i know few people from, however, and being in gold league WvW mostly consists of laggy big zerg fights in which i seem to be very insignificant.

However… i find the transfer costs to be a bit ridiculous. The majority of the worlds, i think somewhere between half and two-thirds are now labeled as “very high” in population, which means i have to pay a silly 1800 gems to transfer. That’s 20$+ in gems just for me to be able to switch worlds… surely the amount of trouble involved in swapping my account between worlds can’t be -that- huge?

So, aside from a hopefully well-mannered complaint, i’m wondering… why isn’t anything being done about this – why isn’t the standard adjusted or anything, so the worlds aren’t just all high or very high?

The game needs to generate a profit somehow, and thus anything not gameplay-related is locked behind a paywall. Which I think is fair, considering that everyone should be informed enough to make the best possible choice, be it for a server or transmuting armour skins.

It is unfortunate that you couldn’t predict your desire to play WvW with people from a different sever, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is still within Anet’s rights to charge cash for a server transfer (if you don’t want to pay in ingame gold, which you can, since you “pay” for the transfer in gems). Otherwise, people would merrily hop from server to server, unbalancing/killing WvW entirely.

The last MMO I played charged $25 per character PLUS a $10 faction change fee PLUS a monthly subscription fee. And there was no way to make those purchases with gold, it was cash only.

I spent literally hundreds of dollars trying to find a guild to raid with. This is a generous piece of cake in comparison.

Well that last MMO is ridiculous and you got unbelievably ripped off. Just because something is worse doesn’t mean that this isn’t bad.

OP, ANet has a lot of things on their checklist that they will never actually deliver on. And a change to world transfer isn’t even on their checklist, so there’s no way you’ll get anything different any time soon.

Just a reminder: it is free if you delete all your chars! Currencies and other account bound stuff stay in your bank. I just did this 2 weeks ago, I am a mainoholic with only one char and wanted to reroll anyway.

Best advice so far. There is a way to get it done for free and here it is. Bank everything, delete your characters, make new characters.

Now if that sounds like a pain, there’s the whole farming gold to convert to gems thing.

Now you have two options to server transfer that won’t cost money out of your pocket.

Well here’s my problem…I don’t mind the charge…what I do mind tho is that the people you have met on other worlds and want to switch to that world to enhance your gameplay…but the server is full…yet you have countless accnts that are in active that have chosen said world as their home world and just taking up world pop space…screwing everyone else

Server population as far as full servers is now calculated based on WvW activity. So inactive accounts would not affect the server population.

• When you bought HoT you should have got 1 free transfer.
• WHen you deleted all charackters all transfers are free.

If you are addressing the OP, that post was made over a year and one-half ago. Unlikely he/she purchased HoT at that time.

Also, the free transfer only applies to those upgrading from P4F to HoT.
