I just did the jungle worm event in caledon forest and it died in less than 5 seconds. Probably closer to 3 or 4 seconds. I was spamming my attacks and didn’t get credit for a kill, so I didn’t get a chest. This happened a few other times on other low level boss mobs as well.

Has anyone else experienced world boss mobs at events dying this quickly? I hope that arenanet will at least give some of these mobs more health so they will last at least 20 seconds.

The shaman in the Frozen Maw usually has about half health once those who ran 10 m further to kill the portals reach him. Then it just dies. You need to be quick or wait right next to him to get credit.

All world bosses need to be buffed when 20+ or 30+ people are fighting them.

They need mechanics that make the fight tougher. It needs to last a reasonable amount of time. They are WORLD BOSSES. Not Veteran’s, not even Champion’s.

It is really sad how they touted at the beginning that bosses would SCALE depending on how many players were near.

Then they out right admitted it somewhere, that it won’t scale past XX amount of players currently.

To be fair, they did say they are working on it. But we need to see some results, all the Dragons are jokes now with guesting enabled.

It’s the unintended consequence of improved chest loots from world events. People will definitely farm them. I’m not saying they need to nerf it again. They should work on proper dynamic event scaling.

They do not need to be buffed.

Anet could prevent rares from dropping for guests, in event chests. Then they can limit the number of times all players can loot a event chest to 3 a day per event.

Ive seen the Maw shaman go down in around 1-2 seconds. Ive seen Jormags wall immediately destroyed as it spawned, see him go to 0% health on first attack and have his health reset to 50% health and crash land into phase 3 were he was immediately killed before he was able to do anything. I joined in sparkfly fen overflow today. Prior to today, (im pretty sure) I had never joined an overflow outside of Lions Arch.

Its a consequence of Agile development leaders paying too much attention to end users… easy to do on small teams with the wrong leaders (for the day).

I have little doubt that I will be infringed for this post and it will be removed, but ultimately it is due to the fact they introduced guesting before it was ready, due to player demand… just wait until they slap a bad LFG/Guesting tool that is half developed over that and see how you go…

Feeling bad due to my response does not mean it was a personal attack.
It may just be that your original statement was wrong.

These world bosses have become a joke. They’re not even fun due to all the lag from a bazillion spell effect/characters on screen and they die so fast that you could blink and miss all the action. Not to mention it’s kind of annoying hoping that you manage to get enough hits for the game to register you’re involvement in the event. I’m expecting some changes in the next update to address the issue.

Be careful what you wish for.

Event Scaling

A new test version of our advanced event scaling algorithm has been applied to four high-level, regularly played events to help us monitor the feasibility of this system in the live environment. This new scaling algorithm dynamically increases the difficulty of events by using the current system of increasing the difficulty of existing creatures, while also adding a new system that substitutes creatures of lower difficulty with different creatures as the event scales up. If successful, this system will be slowly extended to other events across the game during 2013.

The events that the system is currently being applied to routinely result in failures and wipes.

Personally, I am a fan of the system, except the part where mobs instantly disappear when an Event ends. But there has been a lot of QQing about all those Champ’s ruining peoples ezy-mode farming… Just wait until every single thing that is spawned during World Events is a Champion ready and able to wipe multiple people.

I can’t wait until that event scaling is applied to world bosses. If the lab DE near Tequatl is any indication, things are about to get a lot more difficult/fun with the amount of people at the dragons. I just hope that we don’t see more issues with culling and lag combined with champs facerolling groups of players.

I do the Maw occasionally and I feel that it could use a buff. Increase the number of grawl after the first stage and the Shaman have more health and maybe have ice elementals spawn at the last stage. I usually get at least silver if not gold rewards but not always. Sometimes I don’t get a reward at all. There are so many people there trying to tag a handful of mobs, it’s just crazy there.

Something that might be interesting would be to scale the world bosses to the average level of all the players within the event radius (not just those that are actually there, but all those who have the event notification). The main reason a lot of these things are going down in a matter of seconds is because there’s 50 level 80s beating on a lvl 15 boss.

Yes. The dragons do need some changing. On all 3 dragons people generally stand in 1 spot. They need to make incentives for people to move. I sort of like how the golem world boss has these aoes to try to force people to move, but, the damage on them is so low that you can still just stand there and not move.

World bosses should gain +50 armour (or something) for each player in the area taking part in the event.

50 people attacking under quickness and 25 might, bleeds, burning, confusion, retaliation, vulnerability, bosses like the shaman at maw go down in under 10 secs, you’re lucky if you get a hit in

maws getting silly now, so many people there don’t even know how the events work like they are only there for the chest, you’re supposed to talk to the priest after you kill all the grawl stealing supplies, not run off and wait by the moa birds wondering why the rest of the grawl havn’t spawned in yet…

and that 1 person who starts the event will be lucky to get a silver medal by the time they get to the dragon totem.

Why doesn’t the dragon move around, trample the players, and smack them around with his tail? And allow the players to attack the dragon from all sides.

Exactly. The world is so huge, and yet there’s always a huge concentration of players in Wayfarer. As I run around the Maw event, desperately trying to tag anything at all to at least get a bronze for each step, I find myself wondering if there are similar events in different areas that I’m not aware of? I’d be happy to hang out in other zones if there were similar events to the Maw.

Still, people are funneled to and corralled in Wayfarer or Kryta for the dailies. We can usually bang out the daily in no time at all there, and as a result it’s way too crowded.

if you are referring to Grenth…. well that’s a bit too much, but I think it will be slightly tweaked down. The new system is globally ok, what needs to be reviewed is the concept of Group Event:

- hundreds of players shooting at the same target? nah, this is fail

if you have hundreds of players (“group”) playing an “event”, then try to have ’em all busy doing different tasks, without necessarily increasing the HP of a boss (which is a very cheap move imho):

- add guards, each with differents mechanics (it’s very easy to implement this, just have ‘em attack specific random players or specific classes, this will force players to cooperate on different goals)
- add evil supporters (which will buff, heal, CC etc)
- add environmental dynamic changes (ex: a creepy fog which reduces visibility, will split groups of players which will be hunted, no more hunters…)
- modify the story of the event: it’s unlikely that every day those NPC will do the same exact thing for the same exact reason

I could continue but I am sure devs can do better than me, I have faith things will get great with some time

It’s because they’re more like building objects that happen to have attacks than living creatures. As is the Fire Elemental and Golem Mark II.

The temple fights are more interesting in that regard -- as far as I recall all of the priests behave more like champion mobs than objects.

Yeah, I don’t find the World Bosses to be any fun at all. The mass of players ensure the bosses take no skill, die in 3 seconds, there is massive lag (I’ve been in a Jormag fight where my skills simply refused to go off, even my Flashing Blade), and massive culling.

Whenever my guildies announce an event is happening now, I just shrug and continue with what I’m doing. They’re simply not worth the aggrivation right now, even though the rewards are nice. They’re no fun.

I’m starting to think that gathering people on dragon spawns is because the lack of decent rewards across the open world, this makes the players focus on dragons so they get a rare once a day; if there was other places for such rewards, of course there would be lot of people farming EVERYTHING, but not everyone like it is now.
It’s the same old reward system problem, it’s a shame, no matter how hard they try it always comes down to rewards.

The world bosses in this game are a joke. I have never seen an entire group of people wipe or lose more than 20% of the players (dead). The bosses need mobility, tethered of course (but a huge tether).

In DAoC it wasn’t uncommon for a whole zerg to be whiped because a boss clobbered them. The unpredictability of the boss is what makes the event fun; the loot afterwards is just the icing on the cake.

In this game, everyone just stands in a “safe spot” and afk’s while their toon AA’s the boss…lame.

Does anyone else feel the same? If not, why? Please be constructive.

I fully agree, if the Wold bosses have great loot in their chests then it should be a tough fight. the only one that takes forever is jarmag, just b/c how he is, and not due to the difficult of him. I think the dragons defenetly need to be beefed up like their breath weapons being close if not to an insta-kill. and have them move around, something like that. And on a side note, i heard the devs are changing the guaranteed rare to 1 a day per account, i am SO happy about this, it will cut down on the amount of “guests” for the dragon/world bosses.

Like for the Shadow Behemoth, it would be cool if he would control some players for a few seconds and turn them against the other players…the players that are controlled would be invincible because they would be controlled and thus immune to damage because they can’t feel it.

The dragons are just plain silly, they should chase people around and as each foot comes down on the ground it would be an AOE that you would have to dodge. There could be a tail swipe too…even a wing flap that would punt people…fighting a dragon should be epic not zzzzzzzzzZZzzzzZZzz…. /wake-up, sorry, fell asleep talking about how EZmode they are…

All I am saying is that the “World Bosses” should be insane fights that are a blast and there is the chance to get whiped… In DAoC you actually had to build a primary tank group and have healers from other groups focus healing the main tank…things like that would go a long way in this game… Now, I realize that there are no classes that have a big single target heal like in DAoC, but they could make cannons that would shoot a shield onto the main group and would have to be coordinated in order to keep the group alive…

WAIT GUYS

Before you continue saying the words “boring”, “easy” and so forth, I would like to point out that GW2’s difficulty is out-of-wack right now. For example, making the dragons do instant kills may not provide the challenge you guys seek, what the dragons really need is more moves, animations, different attacks, a larger health pool, and a system that works like overflow, where only about 30 or so people can fight a dragon in an instance.

If you guys want more difficulty, at least give some explanation as to how that can be accomplished, because when the players request more difficulty, Anet devs go and make it like AC dungeon, where a single tiny spider can kill you with one attack. Please be wise as to what you all request from anet.

for shatter and claw of jormag it would be as simple as expanding their regular attacks to the “safe” spots, the attacks themselves are already lethal enough if you actually get hit with them but with spots where anyone can attack them with no danger of being hit… well you get boring easy fights.

Teqautl requires a bit more work but larger aoe’s that force people to the edges where the tentacles are now and then and the mobs coming off the beach near the siege weapons to where the players actually are would be a start.

The lower level ones simply need scaling up a lot before any other changes can really be made, what makes them easy is that there done before they can actually fire anything off (or finish spawning in case of the wurm)

Fighting the giant in Diessa plateau is much more challenging than the eye candy tethered bosses, and he doesn’t have a nice giant loot chest at the end. They definitely could use a buff. More adds and more abilities imo is the answer, I understand that taking the tether off the bosses would create a lot of issues, and one shot kills is most definitely not the answer imo, but there are a lot of cool things that could be done to make these fights more interesting and more difficult.

I think the problem is more to do with attack patterns. NPCs in general in this game seem designed to be easy largely because they are easily distracted and don’t choose smart targets. The more players fighting them, the dumber they effectively are.

Maybe bosses should just be smarter. Attack the player with the lowest health. Go after the guy with the lowest toughness. Turn on the Guardian who just blew all his cooldowns. Berserker gear is popular for leveling because the NPCs don’t take much advantage of it and it just makes easy kills go faster.

Basically I think NPCs need a serious looking at when it comes to their “AI”. They seem way too random which makes them easymode for large groups of players.

I agree on the safe zones being removed. There should be no stone (or player) left untouched on the battle field. Not necessarily 1 shot mechanics but some heavy aoe hit or hit in a line or pull people in or something. The players should be getting pushed around.

For example, extened (but not make targetable) the corrupted shield to the left and right blocking that safe area off. Player’s should be trying to dodge/block the kb move, dodge/block the falling ice, running back and fourth planting bombs (which I also believe this bomb kit needs like 2-3 charges on 1. Really annoying having to run back and fourth while a rocket can blast away the whole time. Even make a cd of like 5 seconds but something.) On top of jormag (technically not jormag but you get the point) using his normal skills, minions should appear out of the corrupted ice and move forward hitting any zerg in front. Dragon fights should be chaotic not just from animations but from difficulty.

Shaman needs a major toughness buff since he dies way to quick. Same with the wurm. I’d suggest making the shaman when it turns into the collosal bigger, cause AoE kb on movement, put the special “Deal’s massive single target damage” to basically destroy anyone who dare’s fight it head on, and make it summon ice tornados at ranged foes. Make this boss address all the kinds of players in the event. Jungle wurm just needs quicker AoE, tunnel in while becoming immune for the small duration while damaging/kd foes, and increasing its health and toughness drastically. Behemoth just needs harder mechanics in general, it rarely even attacks :/
