Worried about making an alt
Nah, make a new alt and level. We all know this game is different than other mmorpgs in that you never have to spent any thoughts on “will I have enough time to level an alt, since perhaps I can’t keep up with the gear treadmill with my available time”.
I have one Character at level 80 and currently working on getting him into Exotics, but i also know if i don’t run some low level fractals now i’ll be left behind for future content…
Now, i want to make an alt char but i worry that by the time i get him to 80 it will be virtually impossible to find low level fract groups (already difficult now) and since the new content will be all about Fractals this is something i will need (Want or not) .
I had thought to totally ignore the whole infusion gear but i have a feeling in the future new dungeons with great rewards will be added that are infusion only – making the current old dungeons obsolete.
What are peoples thoughts?
I’m an altoholic but you’re right already it’s harder finding dungeon groups maybe the revamp will help some of them were overly long and in general a dumbing down improves numbers. Everything in the world that can be contested is sometimes for days hugely annoying trying to find a WP and there’s no-one much around for the bigger events. Anyone who missed the fractals boat when it launched is in for a frustrating time. Infusions are only needed for Fractals (so far) the problem is the increase in base stats they added had they not done that we wouldn’t be here.
Soon everybody will levelup their alts in fractals thanks to scaling and character based difficulty progression. All we need is cross server dungeon finder and working LFG tool.

^This, Anet, please!!
A working LFG tool is needed .. I never understand why they dont put one in from the beginning as they all end up having to add one after 4 mths or so.
There will always be people running low difficulty fractals, despite what people say. There just wont be as many as before. Personally I will most likely only run fractals on my guardian and deposit any loot my alts can use, in my bank. (that might be due to my two other lvl 80s not having very good gear yet).

Game over
If you don’t care about skins save up Karma and just buy exotics from the karma vendors in Orr. Like Grenth and what not. The heavy armor skins are siiiiick.

Arena Net will eventually realize thate making the FotM progression character based was a really stupid idea and they will change it to account based. Try to level your alt after that, not now.

Gotta keep up with the gear curve or you may as well delete the game!

I’m not so worried about the higher stats on the items, i am more worried about the agony defence.
I have a feeling the new land/dungeons in the future will have agony based monsters where you will need the agony defence to go there to have fun …
Agony is pointless until you reach lvl 20, once there Jade Maw’s Agony will kill everyone with less than 10 Agony Resistenz (15 if you’r healing abilities are not that great). And yes, I mean kill, he won’t just send you in downed state, he will outright kill you. You will need at least one player that survies his Agony or you won’t be able to kill him.

anet more or less said there will be other ways to get them besides fractals dungeons.
lets hope they do keep there word on that.
I have 8 alts right now…..1 lvl 80 and the rest from level 18-50. I don’t really understand the reluctance to roll an alt. All of the professions provide new challenges and fun as you learn to play them.

Yes, one of the negative effects of introducing a massive gear grind is the effect on those of us with alts. I have 11 characters. It is a daunting task to do the grind for one character let alone 11. It pretty much takes the fun out of play. I just think about all the work involved if I want to keep up. You’re not alone in your concern.

Why is it a race? Most altaholics are in it for the long run…we have to be. If alts aren’t fun to you, why in the world would you commit to 11? I’ve known peeps in other long running games that multiple maxed alts…heck I was one of them. But that was a years long commitment. This game has only been out for a couple of months?

Roll an alt, don’t let the gear progression thing stop you. Actually, rolling alts is a good way to stay out of the endgame if it isn’t your thing.
I strongly suspect that ArenaNet will change things, so I wouldn’t worry about not being able to get geared up.

Leveling a toon in a dungeon, never exploring the zones I really have made it back to WOW

Exaggerate much?

So you’re worried that you won’t be able to level and gear 11 characters in the same amount of time that someone else can do 1 character?
That seems a tad unrealistic, imo.
I know a guy that has a goal of 40 80’s – yup, one of each profession for each of the 5 races. I imagine it’s going to take him some time.
LFG tool even if only for picking fractal difficulties is almost required. It might not QUITE be right now but it’s already pretty rough on a lot of people and it’ll get even worse.
Not just for people starting out either. The longer this goes, the more spread out people are going to be even that have been doing them for a while. Imagine trying to fill some specialized request like “LF3M fractals 38” after running of fractals dies down a bit.

There we go, “Guild wars 2” has become “FotM-only”….its sad, what the chase after stupid numbers can do to a game…

I imagine the difficulty of running fractals at that level is not for pugs. More of a guild endeavor imo.
As an alt-o-holic myself…7 80s and 1 60 and can definitely say that it is getting harder and harder to find groups for fractals. My 1st 5 toons I took through paths 1+2 were pretty easy to find groups for, but I definitely noticed grouping getting more drawn out. Luckily I got my lvl 60 in there early as now pugs mostly will not accept you if not max or dern well close to it. Now with all 8 toons at various levels the difference in grouping is absolutely obvious. I fear by the time one gets an new started alt leveled it will be a real pain lfg for fractals……ofc I am all for some cross server lfg tool to alleviate the increasing time it takes to form pugs.
