I have played tons of MMOs, some with more advanced customization than GW2.
Yet, GW2 has some of the most annoying clipping issues I have ever encountered.

Shoulders, thighs, and biceps going through armor.
Weapons going though legs.
But the worst is HAIR.

If you choose any hair style that is beyond should length it’s going to clip into your armor and your characters back.

Why have hair animations/physics(w/e is being used) if there is no collision detection?

All these ugly issues in such a pretty game. It greatly reduces the amount of customization that is possible… assuming you don’t want to deal with a constant eye sore.

Why not tweak these things?

I just cant take it. Every step I take… The hair flops into back.
It also kills the look of any piece of equipment that has a “collared” look.

I have bought a character slot for each profession but am finding it VERY hard to fill them with unique characters that I like while trying to dodge the horrible clipping.

Collision detection requires many more resources than simple sway effects on cloth and this is dramatically increased in a multiplayer environment.

The game has a hard enough time with huge amounts of people in boss fights and WvW without having to figure out real time collisions of 30-40 people all at once.

Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…

Actually the best thing to do is report it. I’ve reported numerous armour/weapon clipping issues and they have nearly all been fixed. Anet for some reason don’t publish these changes in their patch notes but I can ssure you they happen.

If you have a favourite armour set that suffers clipping issues drop a report with a screenshot through the in-game menu. The more people report it the faster it will get fixed.

You answered half of what I asked. Now “why have it enabled on things that result in horrible clipping?”

I greatly prefer the static hair in other MMOs as it still looks good but doesn’t clip anywhere near as badly.

@Rhaps.
I would but I am pretty sure they know about most of them. Just look at the default human necromancer in the sample gear.

Try hair + shield. That’ll do it like nothing else.

Just a random PuGgle.

Yeah long hair is a no-no in this game, I hate it even when I see it on other players when its clipping through their armor and such.

I’ve spent several coins of gold to get “perfect” sets and looks for my characters, items that dont clip into eachother or float. So far I’m happy with the toons I have. Would like to see more sleeveless options for medium armor and less long coats. Some regular skin tunics that end just above the belt would be nice. I wanna show the tattoos my norns have, heavy armors have perfect options, medium doesnt.

I currently on have 2 toons with hair, my norn guardian, medium long hair and my asura engineer, short hair with sideburns, a bit rockabilly. Rest are close shaved, bald or sylvari branch heads. I’ve never liked playing people with “pretty” haircuts, since thats just not me, I’ve been a longhaired metal head for most of my life, but decided to go skinned a few years back, which I very much enjoy, much easier to keep in order and comb.

So my toons go the same way with the looks I prefer IRL, either skinned, longhaired or some rockabilly style. The rockabilly style however usually ends up on little people races cos it makes them look kitten.
