Worst cat addition yet
It certainly fits the general themes of SAB, including the annoying things you have to do to get certain ‘level ups’ in 8-bit games.
The cat, incidentally, is a great addition:
- It has a title
- It has the bauble infusion aura.
- It uses an animation model distinct from the others in your home instance.
So it would be technically better to say that you think the acquisition method is annoying rather than the cat itself.
FYI a friend can carry the piranha for you. They just need to drop it near the cat and you can pick it up there
Thanks for the tip
edit and yeah the cat is cool but man holy crap the acquisition method is insane.
the acquisition method is insane.
It’s crazy, yes
What is the title you get with the cat I hadn’t noticed that? BTW i made a video guide for anyone having trouble getting the cat. https://youtu.be/HyNV3au9WP0

You don’t get a title. It’s the cat who has a title. (You can see the words below the NPC’s name plate, when you select the feline.)
Stressful Agony Box.. why would an extra be any less than that?
I agree that getting the piranha to the cat can be super frustrating, but there are a few things that may make it easier:
-Clear the path to the pagoda/gong building beforehand. Not having to worry about assassins or frogs is nice.
-Every few seconds, drop the fish and hit it to pick it back up. Don’t wait for it to leap out of your hands and cause knockback. Better safe than sorry, especially on the pillar jumps. Two-three jumps, drop fish, hit, repeat. I know you mentioned this already, just reiterating it.
-Climb around the outside of the pagoda building instead of fiddling with moving around dart traps on the inside. You can interact with the cat through the wall.
It took me about an hour from the very start of the zone to get the cat. Not the most fun thing to do, but kind of fitting for a SAB-themed cat imo.
I tried going with the shortcut but that seemed silly after dropping it so many times on slopes and losing it. Was barely 10 minutes for me. I did fail once or twice. I just picked it up counted to 8 or 9 and then dropped it manually swiped it back up, jumped further for 8/9 counts.
It’s easy to get you in the rhythm and you never need to get knocked back. I did go to the top of the Gong house and talked from the outside though. I didn’t want to bother cleaning out the gong house, backtracking, and then taking a piranha.

I understand having to drop it, but having to pick it up fast? You don’t have room to check out your surroundings, pretty pathetic.

That’s why people recommend clearing the route first, so you don’t have to worry about foes. That way, you can easily take time to drop & pick up the fish as you ‘land’ and right before you move again. (Slow & steady, if tedious.)
reminds me of the gnome achievement in Half Life 2…

I know that. But the fish pops due to two factors: a) dropped on the ground for a little while, b) held for a little while. You must be dropping and grabbing it very fast, and it can be quite frustrating when you’re 80% of the way. IMO it shouldn’t be like this, but w/e… will have someone do it for me.

The most frustrating is when you are carrying the fish while using the trampolines. Seems to despawn the fish for no reason sometimes. I had a run last night where I made it past the annoying little jumps and lost it on the easy trampoline jump near the end. So frustrating.
If the fish attacks you and you are not standing on solid ground, it despawns. This is true if you are on the trampoline or even just making a regular jump ;(
Are you kidding, that was awesome. I love how much thought they put into this too because of course you have to clear out everything and then make your way back, so they set it up to be able to come back. I had a lot of fun with this one once I figured out how to do it.

You have about 10 seconds to hold the fish. You have about a second to pick it up. Accordingly, the best way to carry it is to drop it as soon as you ‘land’ from a jump (and pick it up), right before you jump, and repeatedly while you idle (for whatever reason).
Don’t get me wrong: this is tedious and not something that everyone will be able to do. You can do it correctly 50 times, but that one mistake will send you back to start (as consistent with the 8-bit games of yesteryear).
So slow & steady wins this ‘race’ (or just ask a friend/guildie to do it for you).

Alternatively … stand at cat, wait for your friend to bring the fish. :P

That I couldn’t do. I just couldn’t get the fish up the tree… The traps were the easiest part, after you clear all monkeys.
