I managed tonight to miss my daily in the worst way. With 4/5 daily tasks done, and 2/3 skill points gained I just needed one more. The closest skill point was the one in the beer cellar in wayfarer hills. I got there, the beer went in my inventory, and while I was looking for it the clock ticked over for the daily.

That’s bad enough but my bags were full of junk because I’d just got out of the fractals and rushed over. I would have had enough time to sell and go over except that I’d been forcibly booted of the game for a patch when I left fractals. The fractal run wouldn’t have taken so long except a group member had disconnected and weren’t allowed back in after being patched. We’d also waited to get a replacement and they weren’t allowed in because of the patch. So we’d done the last couple of fractals with just 4 people and that wasn’t fast. We’d wiped on the ice elemental boss when it was down to about 5% health. And guess what our third fractal was? Dredge of course.

If that all wasn’t bad enough I did get a dancing chest when I drunk the beer, one minute after the daily swapped. Had I got the daily somehow? No. It was the achievement chest coming through automatically for the next day.

Dailies are fluff, its been established in MMO’s for the past decade. I feel your pain, and I sympathize with you. But guess what? Tomorrow is another daily.

They are a marketing gimmick to keep your invested in the game.

80 Engineer / 80 Guardian
80 Necro / 80 Thief

I failed once because my clock was off by about 10 seconds, and it still appeared to be yesterday, but the deadline passed just before I completed the last gathering node. X(

It seems that dailies were meant for players to try a large variety of content, explaining all the area specific dailies and such. Aquatic slayer was meant for you to dive in the water.

But that’s the problem with dailies too, and it serves as a way to mask mediocre content by creating a reward out of it. IMO, people should want to jump into the water of their own accord. How? By making it fun of course! I’ve only heard complaints about underwater combat. But slapping a reward on it is the easier and lazy way. It’s a backwards approach because the reward comes first, not the gameplay itself.

Until the actual content for dailies is made fun, then people will resent doing them.

For example, I never consider 10 wvw kills a grind because I like wvw, and thus will do it even if it weren’t an achievement.

For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards,
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Aquatic Slayer is my least favorite daily, but I never have to worry about that because I just choose another way to complete it.

I don’t think the daily is a way to mask mediocre content, if you really want to know they are meant to keep people logging in every day to try and keep even the people who might be a little bored or burnt out from going inactive.

If you are still logging in you are still downloading and looking at the updates, and maybe, just maybe you are still buying something shiny from the gem store every once and a while.

I personally find the dailies fun, and when I don’t find them fun I find them very easy to complete.

I always try to complete mine an hour or 2 before the clock ticks.

Or, if I know I have work the following day, I get it done the previous day.

Sorry for the typos….
I’m usually typing on my phone

I try to do dailies as fast as I can. Just a personal goal. Sometimes it takes a few hours since I don’t always want to go out of the way.

I speak for my self and no one else. Only fools believe they speak for a majority.
