Worth Starting to play GW2?
Yes it is. There’s no real gear threadmill, and even the expac won’t add a new level of gear, or max level. It’s fairly easy to level up, and you can do just fine in most content with exotics. And those are easy to get.
You only really want full ascended if you go for high level fractals, and I’ve got 6k hours clocked up without touching them. What you did miss out on is the story. Even so, you can still purchase Season Two from the gemstore.
You’ve missed out on season 1 of the living story, but you can pick up at season 2 on the gem store. It’s mostly just story line stuff so it’s not terrible if you miss out on it. That’s really all you’ve missed.
If you are a NA server player, I can invite you to TTCC, a guild designed to help all players, new and old, and have no requirements for gear or anything. I’ll even take you into dungeons if you are not 80 and I and others in the guild are willing to help you everywhere and anywhere in GW 2.
It’s a 10 hours game to get to the point where most of ppl are “lvl 80, zerker gear with proper sigils and runes”, if you like to rush stuff of course. Otherwise play as you want and in 2 weeks or so you should be in good shape to do most content.
Don’t worry boys, Blade and Soul is coming.
One of the best features of this game is that it’s not too late to come back, pretty much ever. It’s how the game was designed.
I bought the game when it first came out and didn’t get too far. Haven’t played much since.
Is it possible to start fresh at this point in time, or am i too “behind” everyone else now?
I can certainly sympathize, my friend. I just came over a while back from WoW and was totally unsure of what to find.
Much to my surprise, I found a very welcoming community which is very active (and by “very”, I mean I can’t help but stumble over huge groups no matter which zone I’m in), and so far, I am having a blast.
In my opinion, it’s not to late to start fresh and if you’re looking for a new buddy, feel free to add me!

That’s because the megaserver feature merges everyone in all servers in that zone into one (or several) instances of that zone. Ie there could only be 300 people left playing the entire game and they would all appear in that one zone instance.
Don’t worry, is a casual game. You will catch up the within a few months.

Depends on what you like.
If you like WvW, then unless you join a WvW guild, you will bored quickly.
Not sure about sPvP, but you could play that for a while.
The only group this game caters to is PvE, so if you like PvE then it may be worth it. Though the PvE in this game is pretty lame if you ask me. The dynamic events arent anything special as they restarts within minutes of you completing them. TBH the old system would have been better if you ask me: find an npc with a mark over their head, click get quest.
I’ve played since launch and so have got my monies worth from the game, but whether you will almost 3 years into it, depends on the above.
just play. If you already have one or more 80 chars you are ready to go…
if not… play you’ll eventually reach level cap in a bunch days
My gf hit lvl 80 within a week and 5 more days she was fully geared.
If you know what and how to do its easy.

You are never “too behind” on any one in GW1 or GW2 since both games do not promote powercreep.
You did miss a lot of one time events with a lot of lore, but that stuff can be rewatched on youtube if you are deep into lore.
Wow thanks everyone for the really positive feedback! Glad to hear the game is still accessable! I’d definitely be interested in finding a good guild of people to game with… that definitely makes all the difference! I’ll PM those that offered!
Thanks!

If we pretend i don’t know what and how to do, where would i find out?

Any time’s a good time to start, because GW2 doesn’t release a new armor tier every few months. You can get a character to 80 and purchase your Level 80 Exotic armor and be on par with every other level 80. (Not counting Ascended Armor/Weaps and Legendaries, but those boosts aren’t huge.)
I’d say now’s a better time than ever, considering that the expansion is [probably] coming out within the next 3-6 months. Having a level 80 character is good to have for the new content.
