Q:
Would Anet consider a race change feature?
They’ve said in the past that race changes will never happen, due to the personal story actually being fairly important to the game.
I dont believe they have ever said " it will never happen ". Theres many ways around the personal story issue.
Just change your skin color with the makeover kit.
I think they have said no due to personal story complications.
But those would be easily sidestepped if it also reset the personal story back to zero completion. And I don’t think that it would be the end of the world to repeat those for people that really want the race change.
With the universal wardrobe, and the highest tier gear being sharable among your account, it seems like it would just be easier to simply create a new character in the race you want. But that’s just me, I guess.

I just feel like i have too much time invested into my Charr Ranger. Of course I didnt realize how sloppy the sets were going to look on Charr until after i got him to 80.
If Anet wanted a Charr race they should have taken the time to make sure the armor sets were molded for them. Every other race is practically a human model resized so they didnt have to add extra details for it to look good.
Just seems like this type of feature would payoff big for them in the end, regardless of what kind of time would have to be put into it. They would make a killing on the gem store with this feature. Just look at World of Warcraft, there are people who have spent an easy $200 on race and faction changes.

Certainly easy to do. But with the new trait unlocks, if you are used to a L80 with full traits it will be quite some time, and maybe even quite some cash before you have them back.

With many patch changes moving toward account bound items… There’s no such thing as too much time invested.
I actually thought about changing my 1500 hour + 2 legendaries and numerous ascended Norn Mesmer into a Charr Mesmer lately. At my regular slow leveling pace and a 20 level scroll its maybe 2 weeks of work plus 30g or something for equipment (that isnt bought by badges or otherwise). The changed result would be pretty much the same, with the exception of some character bound things which are sitting in the bank anyway because I dont use them anymore.
But then I remembered that I womit at the thought of leveling a new Mesmer.
Anyway, point is go for it if you want to “race change”. Start a new character and level it. Even if race change do come eventually (the written story arcs is not a limitation if you set basic demands as 80 + finished story, it never has been and it never will be as its only visible to you the player and no one else. They can easily remove the tab in character menu for such a character and the game would be exactly the same. Hell we even have access to everyones home instances already) its not going to happen within the foreseeable future.
40 or so alts ago, I would have jumped at a paid race transfer. Now, I’m done investing in PvE in this game and mostly sticking to WvW.
After the April 15th changes, I did reroll one last alt because I wanted to test their new leveling process. Found I could still get to 80 in 4 days.
However, I get the thought of not wanting to roll again and sympathize.
The personal story was one of the issues with race change, and with the new LS hook added I don’t see any change to ANet’s current stance on paid race changes in the near future.
If they ever do figure out a process to make that easy (without creating more rewards/achievements); it’s possible this could be a gemstore money maker.
My suggestion from before was to not allow transfers unless the character had gotten to at least level 30, where the Order is chosen. Because after that point, the personal stories are pretty much identical across all races.
/shrug
Hope you can either tolerate rerolling a human to get the experience you want, or find continued fun playing your current Charr.

There isn’t anything wrong with armours on charr per se if you can find the right ones, but yeah the tail clipping through the back of some of them is a bit annoying, and could have done with a tail piece/guard/ of even just a better designed hole (that actually looks like it was meant to be there as opposed to for example the clipping you get on some of the long coats) for the tail to poke through, incorporated into them.
I say it’s annoying, and it is but… it isn’t that annoying that I want to change my charr theif to another race.
OP Have you thought of/ tried using a mix match of armour instead?

Given that numerous other threads have been brought up on this very question, I think its a given that someone in Anet has “considered” it at some point.
Likelihood of its implementation in game?
Not likely.
Since the PS and other parts of the story are connected to your race, it is highly unlikely that there will ever be a race change feature.
I’ve never been a supporter for race changer options.
They’ve said in the past that race changes will never happen, due to the personal story actually being fairly important to the game.
They never said that in the past. They only said it is highly unlikely at this time because of the way the system is set up. Nothing is impossible. Anet would implement this feature in a heartbeat if they thought they could make a serious profit out of it.
