My friends and I have a little joke going around about me and I made a name out of it. Would I get suspended for the name “Waggs Is Christ”? Someone said that the name was a little to risky so I wanted to check here. <3 you guys

I don’t get the joke. Ah, nvm, your name is Waggs. Well I don’t see anything wrong with it.

If this were any other game, I’d say go for it. But knowing Anet- they’ll permban you and everyone who has ever associated with you :-P

In all seriousness though, I can’t imagine you’d get in much trouble with it. I don’t actually get the joke, but hey whatever floats your boat. lol

I think a good rule of thumb would be that if you even have a thought that someone might find it offensive it is best to go with another name. You of course could contact support before choosing that name just to be safe. It doesn’t bother me but players with certain religious beliefs or views might find it offensive.

If you have to ask then probably not a good idea.

The problem with these kind of rules is that they are hard to understand. What does " including but not limited to" mean? English is not my main language, but i understand it pretty well. However these kind of sentences just confuse the hell out of me. After reading it 10 times i still can’t figure out if you can or can’t use references to religions.

Also no-one reads the rules. At the end of the day anet could ban anyone without any reason. That’s how mmo’s work.

Including, but not limited to means that they’re giving some examples, but that it’s not the full list. It keeps someone from saying “well, gee, it wasn’t in your list, so it must’ve been okay.” So, if for instance, I said “I like desserts, including, but not limited to, cheesecake, and apple pie” I am giving examples of desserts I like, but I don’t just like cheesecake and apple pie, I like other kinds of desserts as well. Does that make it clearer?

It means that it’s not confined to just what they state in the EULA. It closes the loophole where someone would say: “well you didn’t state that it was excluded.”

Like A,B, and C are excluded. And someone with D thinks it’s ok because it’s not on the list. The bottom line is that it’s still ultimately up to NCSoft as to what is or is not appropriate.

Don’t use anything in your name that may in some way refer to religion. Most religious people are very easily offended.

1. Including: Pretty much means that what comes after that is included in the list of things you cannot do, say, use, etc.

2. Not limited to: Just because something is NOT in the “including” list, it does not
mean you CAN do, say, use, etc.

3. Just because you choose not to read the rules does not mean they do not apply to you. If you click “I agree” (or whatever it is here), you agree to play by the rules you decided not to read.

What about the title, “God Walking Among Mere Mortals”?

Could that not be construed as a religious reference? Is everyone with that title unwittingly breaking the EULA?

While people can argue over what is and isn’t a reference to religion, I maintain my original stance on this topic as seen in my first reply. If a peson has to stop and think whether the name could possibly be a reference to religion the best bet is to think of a different name. If a person prefers not to do so they should contact support before electing to use the name in question.

This is one of those situations where challenging your own idea for a name should be practiced. It is better to eliminate the possibility of being suspended yourself before finding out later that the name chosen is a violation.

The title was ArenaNet created, not a player name and has been around for YEARS without too much incident, that I know of.

You can’t use a name referring to an existing religion, but you can use one from a dead religion. It’s not so much a no religious reference rule as a don’t offend rule. So, maybe you can find one that you like from a dead religion.

im half way through my suspension for being called reverend spanks . before that I was spankyspank and was made to name change which I`d been from start of game .

ive seen about 20 “artemis” the deity of the huntr running around and not reported but is that cause paganism is a peiceful religion and we dont mind or anet just dont follow there own rules? personaly i wouldnt report and pagan diety name but by this logic

Just because you have seen them doesn’t mean they have or haven’t been reported or that the GMs have seen it themselves. I doubt they have the manpower to watch everyone in game all the time. That is why they encourage players to report violations so they can review the situation and make a ruling whether it is a violation or not.

i understand that but by there ruleing it classes as against the rules even though unlike say hindu, chirstian or jewish religions i dout and one who understand acincient greek deitys, pagan ways would care if a deity was named but anet says it is against the rules i was asking were they stand on this
