HI FRIENDS.
So, here’s the deal. I’m getting my first character to 80 soon (He’s at 64 now, precious little baby) and he’s hella cool n stuff, but…

I kinda dont like his face n stuff. I want to get one of those makeover kits, but to just buy them straight from the Gem store would require ~ 1000 gems with the name change as well. So that equates to, like, 175 gold.

I have 19 gold currently.

But, here’s the catch! You can get a makeover kit in a BL Chest, which with RNG accounted, would be cheaper, aside from the name change inclusion, which I can live without for a while.

Do you think RNG would be on my side to get one of those in a chest? I opened 3 today and none of them had one. Should I just save up gold to go to gems to straight-up buy the Identity Repair Kit? How fast does gold come in at level 80?

Ty friends!

It would be way easier to just make another character to be honest…getting to 80 takes about a week of casual gameplay. This way you can still earn some more BL Keys, and some more gold.

I have 1000 hours in game, and just recently, few days ago i got my first ever Face…identy kit whatever…Wish i could sell it on TP cause i have no use for it…ohh well

Never put your faith in RNG…i opened quite a lot of BL Chests…and only got boosters, and bank acces thingys…

Even so 175 gold is not that much…you can make that in 1 week..maybe 2 depending on how you play and what you do at 80.

Whatever you choose, good luck mate…and may the RNG gods be with you ^^

There is no way at all of telling if it will be on your side or not. I certainly would not count on it in regards to something I really want… so yeah I’d save up.

Well… I have been playing almost every day since headstart, I have never bought a key but I have level up around 11 characters to level 80 and done most maps on 8 characters. So during my time have have got alot of keys but I have never ever got a Makeover kit from a BLTC… Best stuff I have ever got is one compleate Blacklion ticke.

But if you ask one in my guild he havent played very much and he got an Infinte Makeover kit from one of his first BLTC-

I`d make another character with looks you want. 170+gold just to change looks of your first character that you havent invested much time in is just too much, you could get some equips or cool looking skins for that toon instead. Gambling for it is also a bad idea, out of like 50 keys i`ve gotten only 1 makeover kit (take note it doesnt include name change).

I get it might be a bit tedious repeating everything from scratch especially when it`s your first character but it`s way more time and gold efficient to just create a new character instead of gambling/investing gems

Do you really need to change the name as well?

A total makeover kit is only 350 gems on its own. That’s approximately 50g at current rates, which is certainly doable within a few weeks, even of very casual play. The Name Change Contract that is 800 gems on its own, and is not available from BL chests. If you buy them separately, you’re losing 150 gems, compared to getting the identity repair kit.

I would absolutely advise you not to go down the BL chest route. If you don’t get a makeover kit in the first couple of chests you open, you’ll be losing money. RNG is rarely on your side, especially if you want something specific

Do not gamble. The odds of getting the item you want from a chest is, probably literally, a million to one. Take Olvendred’s tip and really decide if you need a make-over kit, name change, or both.

Many alts; handle it!

RNG is the path to the dark side. RNG leads to anger. Anger leads to rage-quitting…

From my personal experience, the kit is a rare drop from the BL chests. But in the end it’s all RNG… I surely wouldn’t trust on it to work in your favour.

(Why not use the 3rd option and simply buy the gems? :o )

If you have chests and an empty character slot, you could key farm enough times to get the keys to open the chests. That way if you do get a kit, you save gems, but you aren’t out gems or gold if you don’t.

Just make a new character if it’s that big of a problem for you, or just buy the gems with RL money.

Never gamble with keys.

I’ve been playing since the 3 day headstart, from BLC’s I’ve received a total of 2 total makeover kits.

that reminds me, if you haven’t done your personal story yet DO IT! You get a few keys that way. If you ever make alts, do stories on those too. And stockppile keys. That way opening all of them at once will be satisfying ^.^

but yeah, don’t gamble. Best to save up 50G and buy a kit for 350 gems.

You’d do better to farm some achievement points. Some of the achievement rewards bring a total make over kit. (no name change though).

As wanze has said at 5000 achievement points you get a free makeover kit. It’s likely to take a few months of casual play to get that far but dailies and collection AP rewards can help on the way. Personally I wouldn’t rely on RNG for something like that, though you may make the gold you need for the makeover kit if you are lucky enough to get a good mini or dye drop it really is random and you could spend a whole lot of time and money on nothing!

Better to play the game and earn some AP (or treat yourself to £3.50 worth of pixels :P) imo!

RNG is never on your side for stuff that drops from gem shop items, including BL chests.

  • 1,000 gems guarantees you a kit. If you time your conversion well, you can pick that up for 150 gold.
  • There are lots of ways to earn gold and 10g/day is a reasonable (although conservative) goal. That means 2-3 weeks of daily effort to hit your target.
  • Alternatively, 1,000 gems buys you a mere 11 keys, which has almost no chance of dropping a total make-over kit.
  • Alternatively, you could do 6 key runs/day for 20 days, netting you 120 keys. That gives you roughly an 80% chance to get a BL Kit. (Assuming ~1.04% chance/kit, based on data from over 2000 kits that I collated from people posting results on reddit.)

tl;dr the least-effort method is to farm gold, convert to gems, and get the kit directly.

Alternatively, create a new character (as suggested above) or wait until you earn gold along the way or enough AP that you get a ‘free’ kit as a reward.

Good luck.

Ty friends!

The only way to get RNGesus on your side is to burn 4 20 sided dice in a spinning roulette table at midnight during a full moon while chanting “RNGesus” for a length of time determined by adding the last 3 winning lottery numbers. This length of time is converted to minutes.

Seriously though. As others have said, RNG is not a reliable way to get anything. You’d be better off rolling a new character with the look that you want. Or spend real money on gems, convert to gold, and buy the permenant contract off the TP.
Good luck!

As someone who has terrible RNG luck my advise:

Buying keys for the RNG chance to get what you want is a path better left untraveled.

Do your personal story, do map completion and/or hope for a free Mob key drop instead purchasing keys, if you want to open up your chests. Go for the sure direct Kit purchase if you really want it.

ANother player who is an outlier here. Don’t rely on RNG. Don’t spend your real money on RNG. Don’t waste your ingame gold on RNG.
At level 80, you shouldn’t have a problem getting gold to buy gems. I picked up 1000 for around 147 gold the other day.

The only reason I personally wouldn’t recommend just making a new character is because you will miss out on the exclusive faces/hairstyles available only to the makeover kits.

In all honesty, name change seems unnecessary. Total make-over kit is the way to go. Maybe later on after you save up some money you can consider the name change.

I’ve had a lot of luck getting makeover kits from BL chests. Well, not so much good luck with that but bad luck with weapon ticket/scraps lol. I got a bunch of gems for Xmas as a gift and with it I think I got 20 keys. I ended up with 2 makeover kits and a hairstyle kit from it, but like 3 scraps and no tickets….

I can’t say this is typical, but from my experience I have found those kits to drop decently.

In the end it is RNG, you could end up with no kits. But keep this in mind: if you get a bunch of keys, you also have the chance to get tickets/scraps that you would then be able to sell the skins, usually for 100g+, and if you hold onto them, far more (depending on skin). I know my dreamthistle GS is worth tons of gold now.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.
