Q:

Perhaps a little controversial, but I have been wondering why I haven’t seen any decorations for guild halls as exclusive gem store items yet.

Obviously, I wouldn’t expect someone to shell out gems on a single chair or table, but if there could be bundles of different decorations that fit into a common theme (like a Charr theme, a pirate theme, a Pact theme etc) would you buy them?

The themes could vary, from cultural themes to seasonal ones. For example, 700 gems might buy you:

Romantic Dinner for Two

- Dining Table with romantic table cloth
- 2 romantic chairs
- Cupid-esque water fountain
- Heart Shaped Candle

or

Pact Fleet Decorations Pack

- Floating Pact Fleet Ship
- War Room Tactician’s Table
- Bunk Beds for the troops
- Practice dummies

The only draw back I can think of is, you would be purchasing gem store items you wouldn’t personally own yourself.

However, as a plus side, it would give non-scribe players a chance to add their own things to the Guild Hall of their choice (other than trophies and basic vendor decorations).

Any thoughts?

I am sure some people would buy it but right now I feel I’d rather wait for personal housing (well done, affordable, varied, fun personal housing, with plenty of in-game decoration sources) and then shell out for interesting furniture packs that suit my alts to put in their individual homes.

I think it would help if the guild hall system was opened up so that it became accessible and relevant to very small ‘friends & family’ guilds. Maybe a variety of smaller guild halls that did not require a large organised group to obtain and develop?

You could even have options for single player ‘guilds’ and develop personal housing that way.

Then the scribing and decoration system would have much wider relevance across the whole player base.

You’d have to be sure of your guild to put something personal in it. I don’t think Anet would want to deal with “my stuff in their guild” after someone was kicked out, whether deserved or not.

Some other cons are the cost of the gems comparative to the cost it would take to craft similar decorations. Also, if they started doing this it might eventually cause them to shy away from creating in game obtainable recipes which I wouldn’t like. Though I like the idea in theory.

One thing I would love is an ability to make finishing kit bundles since you often need more than one kind. I think in general there are still way too many tabs to open and close in the ui. It gets hard to keep up with.

Perhaps a craftable decoration would be nice. I’d also really like it if they kind be created and sold on the trading post, or if the kits could be sold on the trading post.

And lastly, it really needs its own crafting material tab so bags aren’t bogged down with account bound junk.

This is a good point, of course the same can be said for someone who earned and farmed for in-game cash, and crafted many high end decorations as well, putting many hours into a guild hall only to be kicked.

What if in your guild hall you got a personalized instance to a room similar to your home instance, that could be decorated…? When you approach the instance gate you get a pop-up menu that lets you choose who’s room you’re visiting from a list of the guild members (who’ve toggled an option on granting access to visitors).

Heck, I’d pay for decoration packs to my home instance even though I’m the only person who ever goes there.

As others have said, maybe for personal housing. But truthfully, I would prefer it to be crafting ingame and make them myself rather than X gems for this and Y gems for that.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.
