So I was at the PvP locker trying to get a somewhat sleek style for medium armor, and I was able to recreate a look that was similar to a particular character from video game in a more modern setting (seen below).

It got me to thinking that perhaps GW2 should have more armor skins (not just towns clothes) that have a “Modern” feeling for all armor types, and dare I say maybe a little less fantasy like. Surely there must have been some evolution of fashion between GW1 and GW2; IMO the fashion sense hasn’t changed much (regarding humans) for a 200 year gap.

Not necessarily. Some cultures are hugely adverse to change, so it’s possible they didn’t massively evolve their styles. Still, I could wish for less trench coats and skirts, and a few more simple pants options. In my quest to achieve such, my thief ended up with a very similar outfit to your char. She isn’t a 70+ yet, so I don’t have the pants yet XD

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

No. Modern does not belong in a fantasy game.

Guild Wars 2 is not a sequel to the original Guild Wars but merely an alternative story setting.

Depends on how modern they go. I mean, they gave us guns….cmon.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I would never play this game again if they did that.

I’m totally against “modern” clothes BUT we already have a lot of “modern” crap in the game (just take a look at the gem store).

I guess “Modern” is in the eyes of the beholder. I consider Steampunk to be modern for GW2’s time (Charr, Aetherblades) and that’s ingame. Plus firearms, tanks, etc.

Besides, Star Wars is fantasy and they have “old” and “modern” races/styles coexisting (Wookiees + Jedi?)

With the mix of magic and tech/fantasy and sci-fi in the game already, I don’t think the inclusion of more “modern” styled armor skins would be that immersion-breaking. Some of the aetherblade armor available is already pretty sci-fi looking. I think the caveat to that, however, would have to be that the armor skin would need to have some type of fantasy/sci-fi element to it.

For example, I don’t see the inclusion of jeans, or chuck taylor’s, or catholic school girl uniforms, or three piece suits (what i guess you could call “normal” clothing) having a place in the GW2 world. That to me screams Sims. But, take that three piece suit and add on a bunch of chains/gears/antique-looking trinkets, snap a pair of techie goggles around a top hat, and suddenly it’s a “steam-punk” three piece suit. Or, make the vest out of chainmail, the coat out of leather, and the pants out a mix of the two, and tack on some type of helm, and suddenly it’s a “fantasy” three piece suit. There are ways to incorporate elements of modern clothing.

Except the catholic school girl uniform thing … i’m at a loss there.
