Would you even WANT a new class/race?
I’d like them to bring back Dervish class + Scythe weapon.
We’re eventually going to get the Tengu, as for professions I personally think they’re fine but need a lot of balance updates as well as needing weapons expanded to them, like a dual sword necromancer or a companionless pistol ranger. Not only that but I would like different ways to play with a single weapon. Like a melee dual scepter elementalist.
I was disappointed that not all classes were being brought to GW2. I have no idea how the monk class would work in a non-trinity system, though. Still, the lack of dervish, paragon, and ritualist is disappointing, even if I do enjoy guardian.
I’d like them to bring back Dervish class + Scythe weapon.
Yes please, along with the Dervish mechanic of using boons to empower attacks.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
One word: KODAN!!!
Forget new classes – anyone who played GW1 will remember the massive balance challenges they had. A new race, however, would mean new quests, new personal story, new ZONES (swoon)…
The thing GW2 is really lacking is new explorable areas – this takes a LOT of dev effort, I know, but it’s what keeps the wrld feeling fresh and new. GW1 did that really well, and I miss it in GW2. I, for one, would actually pay extra $$$ for access to the new race, provided it came with the above-mentioned starter area/quests/assets.
Until they fix the current bugs/class problem i don’t want a new class. For a new race yes, but no new class.
The tengu bird people? can’t say I’m crazy about that but it’s still neat. I never played gw1 what kind of class was dervish like? A scythe sounds amazing. Also Greataxe would be legit too. Maybe its too similar mechanically to a GS to be put in though.
But they don’t like alts, why would I want to spend any effort leveling another one, much less getting gear for it?
Heck no on a new class.
Anet has proven since release that it cannot balance classes properly.
New race I wouldn’t mind, but 100% no on new class.
There is already 1 fully broke class that has been broke since release and has no foreseeable future. They dropped the ball completely on ranger and I don’t want a new class to go through the same fate.
Want Dervish so bad.
And bring back monk. Doesn’t have to be a healer. I know Guardians provide it’s support role, but all them are built as shouting boon whores. Monks could provide some fun if done right.
I would like to see a new class in GW2! My favourite concept for a new class that would be a very fitting and interesting addition to the current classes and their playstyle is the “Bard”, a musician that damages enemys with music and symphonies!
It should be a magical class and should be able to wear leather armor (think that would best fit the class).
To the abbilities and the playstyle:
I have many ideas about the gameplay and style but just let me tell you some of them!
- 1st idea is that the bard can attack with instruments (Guitar, Flute, Harp) to damage foes. Each instrument would be different and has a function (DPS, condition, Healing). They could be the f- abilities with a f4 that charges an attack to deal more dmg or heal! (but it would be similar to the elementist’s attunements but just a bit).
- 2nd: I could imagine a kind of Utility skills are “songs”! Each song gives you a passive buff when used. You can use up to 2 songs at the same time. (This also can be an f- abilitiy idea!)
Trait Idea: With a trait (GM) you can use up to 3 songs at the same time! One song could give you an “aura” that hits mobs around you with damage (up to 5 enemys) when in fight and ticks every 2 seconds. Another “song” can be like giving you every 10 seconds a heal or every 10 secs 2 secs of stability. Trait Idea: The ticks can be set shorter (20%) so it would tick every 8 seconds.
- 3rd: Some other Utilities would be like: calling a muse to fight on your side or give (traited) buffs to allied nearby you. Each “Muse” would look very sexy and follows you. (Or another option would be to make the muses like “stations” and the boons would affect players who stands in a circle in which the muse is in the “centre”.) But I personaly like the 1st idea more.
These are just a few suggestion but I think you know the idea behind it! To make a new class that has its own style and play. Please comment my idea! Thank you!

No, but that’s just me. I have used all my character slots and I don’t want any more. I have enough to spend my money on, ty.
The dervish would be a fun addition, and offer a unique style of play the other professions don’t have. The basic concept of the profession from GW1 is a medium armor melee combatant who rapidly casts enchantments (boons) on himself and allies, and strips enchantments (boons) from himself and enemies – with stripped enchantments providing additional benefits. An ebb and flow of boon build up and tear down would be the corner stone of the profession. The scythe was the weapon of choice for the dervish, but I think it could be expanded to other professions as well. I could also see the dervish using the axe (as a ranged/thrown weapon), shield and focus. The sickle could be introduced as a one-handed melee option. For underwater weapons, I’m thinking spear and trident.
Aspects of the ritualist and paragon have been absorbed into other professions. I’m not sure there’s enough left to make them really stand out on their own. And the thief is of course the evolution of the assassin.
For race… obviously tengu! Skritt and quaggan would be super fun too. Lore-wise the quaggan are supposed to be a bit uncomfortable and awkward out of the water, so most of their racial skills could center around enhancing underwater combat. The skritt would, of course, have a lot of engineer-like racial skills.
Just seeing the issues Arenanet had finding a use for and balancing the class additions to GW1, I don’t think it would help to add more. If there was anything that detracted from GW1 it was the fluff.. slightly too many classes, slightly too many skills. It’s nice to have variety but if it requires eschewing balance it’s not worth it. It’s also a shame to see some novel class idea not seeing use, i.e. Paragons in casual PvP.
I feel like Arenanet needs to work on more content for both PvP and PvE. More modes for PvP and more team play mechanics. More instanced content for PvE and more sophisticated encounters. I’ll take all of that before a new class. Then again, there is always the possibility that game developers are slightly pretentious and see things in a different light than the rest of us. They may feel some niche role is not being addressed and so it merits a class addition.
No.
New “PROFESSIONS” would mean more unbalance. More useless skill in the currents professions to encourage players to buy the new ones or more of the same.
They can add exclusive mechanism but that would create an uprising on those who prefer the current professions so either they give that new mechanis to some of the current professions or they make the new skill completely useless.
A dervish for what? More melee? More AoE blind? More flashing skills? We have plenty of that right now.
And new races? Because we need more complains about clipping issues right? Unless people want more humanoid races but really, who need more human in disguise?
-ArenaNet
I thought Anet said they didn’t ever want to add new professions? They said they would add new weapons though, or at least expand the current options (i.e. long bow thief or etc.)

So you want guardians to wear leather armor…
To address the title, Yes, and Yes, in that order.
Dervish would be awesome, though a Dark Knight type of class would also be very interesting, perhaps one that wields the power of the Dragons without succumbing to Dragon Minion Corruption in some manner; a class introduced through the story, in other words, maybe from Sylvari and Sons of Svanir seeking redemption and to use the power of the dragons against them.
As for a new race, I don’t like Tengu, Kodan are okay, the manta ray people would be interesting, but a new race to the setting would also be interesting.

I don’t get you… A guardian uses instruments, plays music and beats enemys with symphonies? calls muses, uses songs? sry I don’t see any parallels.
Yes I would love it, mainly because I like levelling/gearing alts, but I ran out of professions.
~Sincerely, Scissors
I don’t really see any need for any new professions, we are pretty well covered with those we have. I would not mind it, but well… meh.
New races yes, I would make at least 1 character of any new race added. I have thus far gone by a 1 character per race, meaning I lack 3 professions in my set. Now I don’t need all professions, but it would be fun to have have 8 different characters of different race and profession entirely.
But the only race I see as a viable option is tengu… sorry to all kodan lovers, I just don’t see it. Maybe largos… but dunno.
I would like a new profession or even professions. That would give me a lot to do in the game but new races….. nope. The only thing a new race adds is a new story and very little skills while if you get a new profession it would give mostly new skills and maybe some new weapons.
No. I’ve never been a fan of leveling up stuff. Which was why I loved GW1.
I would rather see them define the current classes better.
Adding more flavour and differentiate them more from each other. Not going for the “holy trinity” exactly, but add more encouragement to play roles like (e.g.) support, interupt, healing, etc..
Which it seems that they will be doing in the upcoming feature pack.
witness our wonders and cry out in astonishment and humble themselves.
Beware our mighty works.
I want at least two new classes, one must be heavy. I don’t really know what could they be, no wonder I am not a game developer. All I know is that it’s pointless to add a new race, choose it in creation and wait 30 mins in front of the same, plain professions I’ve been playing and overplaying for almost 2 whole years.
O°v°O
New race? Yes. Each race has it’s own story, it’s own lore. Not to mention that to me, they each feel different – ie: a human mesmer does not feel the same as an asuran mesmer, as such I build and play them differently.
New class? No, thank you. Let them balance what we have, then look at adding something like this to it.
Short answer? Yes! Doesn’t matter to me what race or class, I’d still make the toon.
Yak’s Bend Server

yes i want new classes (martial artists combo focused reactive playstyle) marksman (preparation focused preparitive and tactical playstyle) new races yup, although sadly anet probably cant do this unless its a humanoid race, in which case there probably isnt much purpose. (they already struggle with gearing up charr)
i got 8 level 80s, i probably have done most storylines, And i still dont think they have a job that really hits my playstyle on the head.
- Thief is too stealth focused, and only has 1 scrappy build in its moveset
- Mesmer, only the mainhand sword style is really my cup of tea, and it doesnt really have very many useful chains of skills.
* Engineer has great variety, and a great many useful chains if you make use of combo fields, but fairly ranged oriented, and not that reactive/survivable with the meleeish sets.
- ranger is has some good options in melee, but it doesnt have a great many combos, and doesnt have a very reactive style. While its melee does give it dodges, it seems more random since it mostly on AA skills, and you cant depend on random much, this makes it usually a safer bet to stay at a distance on hard content.
*the rest of the classes generally dissapoint me. necro too focused on condi for me, and the class mechanic is pretty dull. warrior is too much about passive buffs, with very few combo/skill chains. ele has loads of combo/skill chains, but only dagger style really fits me, and for some reason just doesnt appeal to me much, probably not scrappy enough. guardian has a super boring class mechanic, and few interesting skills and combos.
long story short, something is missing i welcome new classes.
New race? Yes. Each race has it’s own story, it’s own lore. Not to mention that to me, they each feel different – ie: a human mesmer does not feel the same as an asuran mesmer, as such I build and play them differently.

classes will never be balanced, they are not balanced in any mmo ive played, or any game really. I want new playstyles, and new mechanics that the current classes dont, and probably shouldnt offer.
I don’t want to see a new class or race, I just want more options for the existing ones. I want Anet to take a stand and NOT bow to peer pressure. Far too often I’ve seen classes and races added just for the sake of adding them. If Anet does come up with a new playable race or class, I hope they have VERY good justifications for adding them and make them fit seamlessly into the core game.
Classes no, races yes.
Why bother making new classes when the standing classes are so easy to expand on?
Races would be neat because kodans.
How about they bring in the Dervish with a twist? Dervishes originally were similar to what Elementalists are now, what with attunements. The original Dervishes, however, were tied into the Six Gods, which is probably why they wouldn’t work in GW2, because only humans really care about the Six, while some races, like the Charr, would love to kill them.
So bring the Dervish back, but using the power of the Elder Dragons. They find a way to tap into the Elder Dragons’ powers without succumbing to corruption.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a third soldier class, possibly one centered around minions. Call it a Commander and have it be able to recruit soldiers from different maps, much like how Rangers run around taming pets.
I would rather them figure out this mess of a pve system they have got going. But I’m not opposed to them putting in more classes.
I think that new races would be much easier to implement than new professions. Yes, you’d have to redesign armor etc. to fit, but most of the races already use existing skeletons (Tengu = Charr, Kodan = Norn etc.), so most of the groundwork is already done. More importantly, new races don’t introduce new balancing work. It’s probably already complicated enough balancing the existing 8 professions without a new one being thrown into the mix.

Oh no, nothing will ever be absolutely perfectly balanced. However, they should be able to get it close. However, I dont want it to get the same point as GW1 either, where 75% of all skills were pointless…
Maybe not so much new classes as new weapons and uti/elite skills. I feel the balance between classes is pretty good already in PvE aside from necro and engi. However new weapons/skills could lead to fresh new builds and that’s always fun.
As for races, of course, wouldn’t mind making a Kodan or Tengu. They’d forever be an alt though unless Anet severely boosts ways of getting ascended gear.
No to both, I wanted Skritt but now that I realized we’re missing out on some really neat items because of charr I’d rather no new races be added. We’ll always be short on armor because a lot that they could bring over from GW 1 or make will clip on charr and if tengu was ever added, cannot imagine anything would look great on them.
Until they make it that they don’t need armor for all races than nothing will change, people will cry about lack of armor without realizing multi racial selection is the reason why there is no new armor.

Why they didn’t just give us the Upright looking Charr is beyond me. In GW1 Charr came in two types; the hunchbacks we have in GW2, and those who stood more upright and straight backed. I would have -loved- having -those- charr.
Classes no, races yes.
Why bother making new classes when the standing classes are so easy to expand on?
Races would be neat because kodans.
because each class is defined by its class mechanics, and archetype, and while they should expand those classes withing that, they shouldnt expand outside of that.
thief should always be about initiative/skills from stealth/steal and generally be an evasive fast class.
ranger is tied to pets, and should be tied to pets
mesmer is ultimately about making use of clones and illusions or blowing them up
point is, you cant build certain things with these types of class mechanics. Thats why you need new classes, to have the type of playstyles that the current classes cant, or shouldnt have.
I couldn’t care less about new classes.
However, I’d really love to see new races. I’d like to see new races, more personal stories (more story in general, actually), more armor and more zones…
The game’s been out 1.5 years, I think it’s about time there was some major expansion with new armors or skills or the like. The April 15th feature pack is looking pretty good but it only does so much…
Class is a definite yes, Race… perhaps. I have a strong preference for humanoid characters and it’s likely the new playable race will either be too ‘cutesy’, or monstrous for my tastes.
New, permanent content will have far more positive than negative impacts though.
I definitely want new races, as I find a lot of the existing races unappealing.
Even ‘subraces’ to mix it up without having to add new cities etc.

I feel ya. I totally agree and I feel like the living story is cool and everything, but come on Anet. The only new skins or armor that have come out are either ascended or on the gem store. Don’t get me wrong, the living story is an awesome thing, but it literally doesn’t add anything to the game (post-event) that enhances it at all besides a couple of souvenirs. Some of that time and effort could be spent elsewhere to make the game NOT feel almost the exact same since release. That sounded way more like a rant than it should have. I’m not unhappy with the progress this game has made, but still.
Adding new Classes?
There’s only one new Class needed, that should be added -the Knight as 3rd Soldier Class.
Everything after that point I want to see is just only further Class Progression and Development via Sub Classes
GW2 doesn’t need tons of seperate Classes, when all what this Game needs are just only 9 Basic Classes with the Warrior, Guardian, Knight, Thief, Ranger, Engineer, Elementalist, Mesmer and Necromancer
From that point on its easy for ANet to evolve these 9 Basic Classes with Sub Class-Character Progression into whatever you want:
Warrior: Berserker, Legionnaire, Duellist, Mercenary
—-
Guardian: Patron, Augmentor, Mystic, Paladin
—-
Knight: Dragoon, Templar, Crusader, Partisan
—-
Thief: Rogue, Infiltrator, Saboteur, Strider
—-
Ranger: Druid, Scout, Hunter, Poacher
—-
Engineer: Alchemist, Inventor, Technician, Pioneer
—-
Necromancer: Occultist, Witcher, Ritualist, Chastiser
—-
Mesmer: Bard, Fencer, Chronomancer, Psionic
—-
Elementalist: Bender, Arcanist, Summoner, Sorcerer
In regard of playable Races, theres also a Yes from me, but not for all races, only a very few ones. Alot of them would be better for the game to get completely erased out in my opinion and should have never been added into the game at all.
What I want as playable race first are the Tengu.
After them I’d like to see become playable the Largos, but only if they get completely redesigned, like Anet has also completely redesigned the Sylvari in regard of their Looks.
To me should Largos look far more like this:
http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-16/bs-fishman.html
Like a real amphibic Fishman-Race without these silly ridiculous looking static wings.
ANd before they get implemented, their Lore needs to become far more thought out well before.
Made about this few months before in a postign a concept about how I’d like to see them getting “4 Houses as equivalent for the Character Creator, where all players have to choose out something personal for their character. With Largos it would be te choice to which “House” your Largos should belong and I think, I came up in that posting long time ago with a pretty nice concept
When I find that posting again, I’ll relink it here later.

mesmer doesnt gel well with chronomancer or bard. You are married to a class mechanic of shatter, which is dmg confusion daze and distortion, if one was going to do a chronomacer its mechanic should have more to do with time. bard should have support or songs or something, and mesmer has some of the worst boons, and nothing really boonlike about its playstyle, or singing.
This is why the class actually doesnt have every archetype, because the class mechanics of a class actually do define it.
theif is a quick agile fighter, but its basis is initiative, which means you use whatever skill is the best for that situation(not combo driven) and powerful skills when you stealth, which doesnt gel with a stay in your face fighter. They have also built them to be primarily about evasion, and primary defense is to pick battles and escape.
essentially theif isnt quick fighter, its quick fighter with stealth and a stamina system
mesmer isnt CC mage, its illusionist
ranger isnt wilderness hunter, its beastmaster
etc.
Point is there are playstyles that are currently missing and dont fall into line with current proffesions. Proffesions are not broad enough to handle all playstyles currently
So long as I didn’t have to delete an already existing character in order to use it, I wouldn’t mind it at all & I’d love for a new profession entirely. A heavy armored one or maybe even another light armored.
Definitely. The more races/classes the better.
I don’t want new classes so much as new ways to play the classes we have currently- adding new flavor, or expanding the current archetypes if you will.
I already have multiples, give me reason to make more
new race?- yes please: Largos
