Q:
Would you pay 15 $ a month ?
HELL NO!!! I don’t want another WoW… Main reason I’m playing this game too…
Sorry with the amount of change (or the lack of warranted change) that this game has gone through in the past months, probably not.
[HL] Deadly Protection @ Sanctum of Culling
No, I play this game because it doesn’t have a subscription fee. I would not even have started playing if it had a fee, there are too many good games out there that have no fee or always online requirement (I still haven’t played Witcher 2 for example) to bother with a game that wants me to pay for the privilege of playing beyond the initial purchase.. I’m happy to give them money for a) new content b) cosmetic stuff if I like it c) non-gameplay advantages or gameplay advantages that are available in-game but hard to get (xp boosts, BL-chest keys etc).
If the game is good I obviously will be more free with my cash, partly because of good will and partly because I’m not spending a lot of my gaming budget elsewhere. And if the game is bad I can leave and not have to worry about continuous CC charges or even CCs being tied to the account.
Nope. Like the game but I wouldn’t pay to play.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
No, they don’t add enough new content for me to pay extra for it. Plus, they seem intent on removing anything they add like SAB and the upcoming dungeon that will go away after the next month is over. And also the bugs are still horrendous in this game and the game’s graphics are still not optimized to run anywhere nearly as well as any other modern game.
The game is fun, but there are definitely too many reasons to not pay a subscription fee.
Monthly fee is not an option – it’s absolutely old-fashioned! A micropayment-system without pay2win is still the best way to appreciate a good product. The only problem is, that there is no such system for WvW…

would you say you would still be subscribed after this long knowing what you know now about the wvw content and how much attention has been given to it ?
For a little bit of perspective:
Icecrown Citadel was end game in WoW for over 12 months. That’s $180 for one raid patch.
I’d rather pay for WoW than GW2. Not gonna pay for either tho.

And Dragon Soul was even worse.
The content that is added is no where near $15, add to that most of what is added is limited time only.
Don’t forget, this practice is a big reason why Tera crumbled. Sub+Heavy cash shop.
No, I’m done with subscription games, they’re not worth it.
At the current state of WvW, no, I wouldn’t pay a subscription fee for this game. If this was launch, however many months ago, blissfully unaware of all the flaws, I would have.

No, Tera crumbled because it couldn’t offer enjoyable, lasting content for $15 a month (let’s not mention that it’s a HUGE grindfest with terrible quest/story/gear mechanics). Gamers are willing to pay the price if you entertain then while giving them what they want, this has been proven by other games.
The devs don’t care about WvW so I’m gonna kill players in PvE!
(edited by GuardianOMS.8067)
Yeah. I love this game. I just wish that some of the patches had “fixes” that actually fixed things rather than made WvW more annoying. The only thing that made WvW fun was the removal of culling.
But, I do know that some of their ideas take a LONG time to make. People think this is all GW2 is. GW1 players know that even the continent of Tyria is not even close to being 50% released. We still have Cantha and Elona to visit, and a lot more Elder Dragons. During all these PvE releases, there is no doubt WvW and other aspects of the game will get some more polish in that time.
But really, I just wish ArenaNet would stop touching things and listening to the QQ community. Confusion was NEVER broken.
Not a chance, sub based games are a tax I can do without.
Besides, how many gems have we bought? I’ve easily bought more than £8.99 worth of gems every month since launch using ingame gold, I guess someone had to buy them to sell, though not sure on how that actually works.

If their servers or programming, whichever the case may be, could handle massive scale combat like we see in higher tier servers without skill lag and random crashes, I would happily pay a sub fee. If they don’t find a solution soon they will lose a massive player base when ESO launches. Hopefully, they will be able to handle massive scale combat.
GW2 dose not have the content to even dream about asking for a sub fee. The PvE is total garbage and the dungeons are lackluster at best. Myself and many people I know have had to find another game to play PvE . The lack of a sub fee and no pay to win is the best model for this game as it stands now. The WvW is the best thing this game has to offer and will be the only thing that adds to its longevity, if they can fix the performance issues before ESO launches later this year.
SoR
I would if they fixed alot of problems and also got rid of RNG, which wouldn’t be needed after Anet gets a good amount of income.
In fact, I would happily do it if they just added really exciting content.
One thing you all must realize, if we had to pay 15$ that would mean the dev team would be bigger and we’d be getting alot more additional content more frequently. That is how WoW is able to come out with these huge expansions. But in the end i would gladly pay 15$ a month for this game, WvW is too much fun to give up
The game designed doesn’t really allow for a subscription fee. WoW has content in the game that is designed to keep you playing for ages and ages, buying themselves time to make new content. Their content lasts a long time because they limit how often you can do it or makes it take ages to do it. It’s why WoW is such a boring waste of time.
On a side note, the GW2 developer team is about 12x larger than the development team of GW1.
Simply and shortly put – the game is far too bad for majority of people to pay for it. Nowhere close to games that had montly fee and succeeded.
Would you pay 15 $ a month ?
Short answer: No
This game, especially if you mostly play WvW, is not even close to worth it. Sorry

Game lacks depth to justify a monthly fee
No, I wouldn’t, but I wouldn’t do that for any game.
No, they dont love wvw, and we dont love them ><

There is a reason why a lot of games are becoming free to play with micropayments, it’s more profitable.
Just look up the new articles where kids have ended up spending thousands of pounds on their parent’s credit cards from this.
I am surprised that Blizzard have not made WoW free to play yet as it would bring them more revenue really.
Remember to buy the officially endorsed GW2 Steel Series Keyboard, it supports macros!
WvW, we only care if it affects the servers we play on.
No way, not worth it. I am barely playing it now when it’s free lol and with the upcoming changes and further dumbing down of the game, I’ll probably stop playing altogether
Cyrus Glitch – sPvP/tPvP Mesmer
Doctor Loki – sPvP/tPvP/WvW Power Necro
Frankly it’d be worth it, so probably.

Average gamer will only pay for one monthly sub fee game. Quite frankly many have tried to compete against WOW but failed miserably. It would take a developer with deep pockets and a long term vision for a MMO, also must be a product that’s well known to the gaming community. ESO is the next challenger. Will they succumb to past MMO failures like SWTOR, Warhammer, etc. We’ll soon see.
Ive played GW since launch on both games, but I would not pay a subscription for GW2, there changes that are done to not really favour the most, they are aimed at small groups but effect big groups, look at upcoming changes to mesmers, yet we still see perma invis thiefs, they are forcing us slowly to run around in zergs, look at others updates etc
In saying all of that, if there was a subscription fee, they may not be so quick to nerf something, as when you start nerfing the skills of the players who are paying to play, you can quickly kill your player base……..

Micro transactions are more profitable when the game has a short lifespan which most f2p games have.
Wows sub fee supports way to much(sc2, d2, d3, battlenet, wow it self and the company) for them to base it all on micro transactions. Micro transactions are not guaranteed money, sub fee x # of subscribers is. And wow has a cash shop for pets and mounts.
Wow will be free to play when they have another cash cow generating the funds wow currently does.
If i could afford it id gladly fork out w/e they asked me to pay.
Fantastic game

If more support was put into WvW then maybe.

I have not played any pvp game in witch developers did not lissen to the QQ community.
All they do is ruin our fun. Imo 70% of the nerfs were due to the fails in WvW.
Sure hop in WvW get attacked by a thief, just stand still if he hides or even worse run away and turn ur back on him or attack a confusion mesmer with 8 stacks on U.
Theese ppl keep doing so and keep dying instand each day. Then they go on forums and cry for nerfs.
Only 25 of theese cry baby’s on each server going on forums will change each game since from wot i have learned in the past, developers allways lissen to them.
Not going to bother any of U with all kinda examples but just 1. Look at the rifting-buff back then at Aion! Wot was it 80% less damage?!
Lol it was an like 2 faction open world PvP :P All due to a few whiners.
Back to the original question..Nah not 1 copper for Gw a month (constantly nerfs, 6 months culling and now skilllag forever) but iam even happy to pay 25 $ a month for any game that giefs real pvp pleasure.
Regards.
Nope.
Not for the lack of changes to WvW, unlike all their attention for pve events.
And certainly not for a single gamemode in pvp.
Pve is debatable since it gets attention, so it’s a matter of taste mostly.
Pvp however simply doesn’t have enough features and new incentives.
Not to mention culling, lagg and queue times in WvW. Half the time I want to play WvW, I quite simply can’t…
With conversions in mind, I’ve probably spent a little under what a subscription would’ve been on gems for items from the store. I actually prefer doing that a bit to support a game I enjoy than saying “it’s fine, I’ll just use gold”. Would I pay a subscription though? Nope, not a chance. It’s honestly the principle of it, especially having paid the retail price for the game to begin with. ANet seem to have enough tricks and ideas up their sleeves on items for the gem store though, that cash flow probably isn’t going to be a problem any time soon. Can you imagine how much they make simply off of the basic things that are going to see fairly flat numbers in terms of usage over the coming years like name changes and makeover kits?
Back during beta and when the game launched I would have without question but no way would I now. The lack of timely attention to WvW and the so-called “balancing” done to professions are the two main reasons I wouldn’t.
Nope. Subscription makes me feel like I have to play, which immediately takes the fun out of it for me. “Oh no, I haven’t played in a few days, I’m not getting my money’s worth!” etc. No subscription = I can play when I want to = I happily play almost every day.
not a chance…
They’re lucky I’m playing now. I’m only playing now so that I feel like I got my moneys worth, from my purchase of the game.
I don’t understand why so many games have released since 2000, with so many bugs.
I want to love the game, but at this point, I can’t.

^ this.
It’s $14.99 a month for entertainment in the world I live in $14.99 gets you two redbull vodkas. The game lacks this and that blah blah. The people who designed the game are trying to make money not give you or me free stuff. I don’t know about everyone else but the cabin and jet skis my family had weren’t pulled out of or you know what. We paid for our entertainment. Isn’t there a old saying you get what you pay for? Maybe paying a small fee will get the dev team to produce ten times more content. Nothing is FREE.
(edited by Mike.3742)
lol no
15chars
No, but only because the game launched with no sub fee. Now, had it launched with a $15/mo sub then yes, I’d have paid and likely still would be.
But it doesn’t. That’s like asking if you’d still be married to your wife if she sprouted a third… arm. It’s not going to happen and silly to speculate on.

League of Legends is a free game, and is much, much better than Guildwars 2. Online gaming is virtually the only product you can buy, and not get your time/money back if you decide it wasn’t worth it.
Every other industry will go to great lengths to make you happy, so they do not lose money.
80 Thief – 80 Warrior – 80 Guardian – 80 Ranger

I don’t rent games.
However, I have purchased a good amount of gems to support ArenaNet, I like that I can show my support when 1) it fits in my budget and 2) I approve of what they are doing with the game.
I don’t agree this thread was moved to general discussion.
It had an extra value being in the WvW section, since it posed the question wheter or not WvW is worth the sub fee.
Seeing how little real changes WvW gets, and how lag, queues and culling etc influence the enjoyment.
There was a reason the question was asked in WvW.
Just READ the initial question! It clearly adresses WvW.
Being in the general discussion section will shift the question to pve again, which wasn’t the point of the question…
Nope, especially not considering the way the have decided to do balance changes. For me to even consider it they would need to completely rethink their approach to balance (ie change the stuff that makes a build too strong instead of nerfing all builds).
Vayra – Elementalist
Forkrul Assail – Mesmer
No I’m not paying them to make the game worse every patch.
The game lacks too much for a monthly sub. I happily pay a sub for multiple other games, but wouldn’t pay one for this shallow game.
