Have a support-ish oriented Guardian or Mesmer for PvE/WvW..

Depends on the server and size of the groups you run with and what classes they bring.

Guardians are always useful but only ina few situations are the required.

Mesmers however are VERY much in demand, but only need like 1 in 10 people. With a good run you only need one in 20 to be super effective

But if your server has a few good ones already… you might find yourself with a waste and not doing much yourself

I have both, but my mes is my commander.

stop that spooky… bad commander! Unless you got a partner to command the melee folk, then its okay
