Q:

Would you purchase bonus mission packages (not with gems) to support the company if they released them? I just got into playing GW1 and they sold bonus missions separately, so I’ve been wondering if people here would have any issues if they made such packages available in GW2?

A:

Maybe, it depends on what they are.

I never bought the Bonus Mission Pack in GW1 because the amount of story included didn’t seem worth the price to me. Whenever I asked about it I got the impression the appeal for most people was the unique weapons, I was always assured the story would only take a few minutes to ‘get out of the way’ so I could collect my weapon and go back to the main game.

But if it was cheaper and/or included more content I might be interested. I think the price for Season 2 of the Living Story (200 gems or about £2 for 4 or 5 instances, each with their own achievements) was very reasonable.

I won’t say yes without knowing more specifics about price, length, subject, etc., but I’d be interested. Perhaps they could do something like the old Mission Pack, or the LS2 missions where you play as Caithe. There’s no shortage of characters and incidents I’d be interested in learning more about.

They basically did that with LS2 for people who missed the releases.

Not until it is out and reviewed and reasonably bug free. Of course that also assumes it is something interesting. If it was like the original pack probably not even after all that. No point in wasting money on something I barely played.

No, absolutely not. I really dislike instances which play out the same regardless of profession or race — what’s the point of working on builds and other aspects of progression when the missions play out identically?

Also, why not allow them to be purchased with gems? I think they fit into the gem store model perfectly — not as meaty as a full expac (which would cost RL cash).

I just got into playing GW1 and they sold bonus missions separately, so I’ve been wondering if people here would have any issues if they made such packages available in GW2?

I would support the effort — I’m not against ANet spending some dev resources on stuff that becomes available only via the gem shop.

I’m also not against them adding stuff for RL cash only. However, they’d have to figure out a much better PR strategy than they currently use — given how strenuously fans object to the price of the expac, the lack of discount to vets, and especially the long free-content drought after the end of LS2, I doubt the community would support any RL cost for any new content. At least, not if it gets managed by the same people.

Arena Net can’t even deliver content we already paid, why on earth would people give them any money at all this point.

I rather Arena Net get their crap together and start delivering us content and stop promising things they can’t realistically produce.

Arena Net would drive away the already angry player base if they started that DLC crap.

I did not enjoy the bonus mission pack in GW. Frankly, it was one of only a very few things in the original game I did not enjoy. Why? The same reason I have no interest in “Adventures” in HoT. If I am playing GW2, I want to use my usual skill bar, not some other skill bar specific to that content, never to be used anywhere else.

So, no, I would not purchase a bonus mission pack for GW2 like the one from GW.

I’ve supported them with gems, I’ve supported them with buying the collectors edition of both core and expac. As far as I am concerned, the money I have given is enough contribution (personally) to help fund their content. Whilst I am rarely critical of Anet (it is just a video game after all and getting wound up to the extent people do is not necessary when the World has proper things to get upset about), I don’t see the justification of more money for content, when we are still waiting for some of the content that has been paid for.

I know DLC’s are the current fad, but when you see “bonus” content for £20-£50 on consoles which amount to either nothing (Killer Instinct – 6 toons for £20 basic pack!!!!!) or content that was deliberately cut from core to make more money in (Battlefront), then I don’t think we should encourage Anet to do the same.

Like others have stated, I’m not a fan of my skills being force-replaced with others. Not a fan of running through stories as characters other than my own. If there were some attractive rewards, then maybe. But I usually avoid that stuff for the most part.

If they were simply dungeon-like instances that I could solo whenever I desired, perhaps. Again, depends on the rewards or if they truly made the content fun/unique.

I got the Bonus Mission Pack free with (I think) EotN early purchase. I’ve yet to finish even one of the stories. I don’t like playing as something/someone else, when I don’t specifically choose to. I’m not really fond of many instances in GW2.

So, if they were anything like the BMPs in Guild Wars…no, I would not purchase them; not with cash nor Gems.

Interesting. This thought emerged from story-driven side quests mentality, so no new cosmetic stuff, but mainly story to weave LS chapters better or give a bit of depth to some characters. Still, I’d like to know if these story bonus packages were around $5-$10 that would be OK (not with gems)?

I has the gw1 bonus mission packs. I tried a couple but was put off by suddenly getting a whole new set of skills right at the start. A cosmetic change to make me look like the person is one thing but taking away my skills and giving me whatever skills the Devs want me to have and have to learn while trying to do the content is a no no.

In addition, if they can’t do the work that we’ve already paid them to do (new Legendary weapons) then I’m not going to pay them for leaving that undone and going off to do bonus missions (and charging for that).

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

They would have to include more story and/or gameplay than the Bonus Mission Pack did. $10 (or £7 at the current exchange rate) is about 20% of the price of a full game, so I’d expect about 20% of a full games storyline for that price.

Edit: To clarify I’m completely in favour of new story, whether it’s playing through historical events or seeing new developments. I’m not opposed to paying for that with real money. But like any purchase I want to make sure I’m getting reasonable value for money. I won’t go to the Chinese restaurant that charges about £30 a meal when the other one in town is just as good and charges £15, and I won’t pay £7 for 5 minutes of story when I can get 30 minutes of a (different but equally good) story for the same price elsewhere.

I guess at some point they will sell us new legendary journeys .. 20 bucks each legendary

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
