I know they said that to discourage abuse/trolling with the mentor system, they removed in-game rewards. That’s because players that help other players are usually satisfied with just helping, which I agree, there are plenty of players that just like to help for the sake of helping (i.e. Me)

But the same could be the same for trolls/abusive players. They get a kick just from trolling other players, like leading them to the wrong end of a jumping puzzle or intentionally into a group of higher leveled mobs. There are plenty of players that will troll others and be satisfied without any rewards (i.e. Me on a boring day)

My question, how many of you guys would still use the mentoring system even knowing you won’t get a reward? Or how many friends do you know, who would abuse it regardless of in-game rewards?

Knowing in-game bs as I know, I am pretty sure that will probably be very divided 50/50 between people that really wants to help and ppl that really wants to troll.

Sadly, the community of this game is no longer the one it was 2 years ago. We still have a lot of very good receptive ppl playing, but there are just as many numbers in troll and ppl that really like to just bother other people.

It will offer no more less abuse options than a commander tag or suggesting people to press “Alt+F4” or “F12+space” in map chat.

That’s how I feel about it. This won’t make people troll more than they already do; it’ll just give them a different way to do it, if they want to. Luckily, the trolls are still the minority.

So if I’m helping people, I don’t get anything other than the “joy” of helping others? Yeah I can help.people and get rewards now. This system sounds a bit useless.

If it would give rewards it would be open to abuse. How would the game determine if you successfully helped someone? It the other person just needs to press “yes this person helped me”, then guess what people would do with their friends or their 30 accounts.

Though apparently trolling as a mentor is a reportable offense as stated in the POI. Question is, will Anet actually warn or do anything to those people that are reported?

As for players asking why they would put effort into this Mastery line, if there are no rewards…there are some benefits to be achieved. Mentoring is purely optional; you can fill out the track for the other benefits without ever making use of the Mentor abilities.

I may spend some time on it, eventually, for the ‘Auto-loot’ feature. Then, again, since the speed boost can not be turned off, I may take a pass because of the jumping required for Vistas, JPs, etc.

You won’t lose your normal rewards when helping. They just aren’t giving you anything extra for mentoring. This may not keep out those who really want to troll, but it will not encourage people to run around with the star without any intent of helping others.

I won’t, but I expect there would be players who will certainly troll for the fun of it. So, the mentor system is going to be abuse definitely. Anyone saying otherwise is just in denial. There will be trolls no matter where you go or what system/features/mechanics there is in the game.

this, tbh, i think it is the wrong move to not alow rewards, yes rewards might draw a few more trolls, but i believe rewards would also draw even more ppl to actually help others
