Wrong look at end game from people!
Subjective. To me, endgame means high skill encounters. The only such thing in gw2 are Fractals and maybe Arah. Crafting, getting a legendary, leveling in WvW… all those things can be achieved by the most casual and lazy gamers you could think of. That’s the opposite of endgame to me. A good system is something akin to fractals with increasing difficulty levels. Even the less ambitious players can enjoy them, but a higher level would then require more dedication. Following this – my – definition of endgame, gw2 doesn’t have a lot of that.
That is what i mean, why you think end game is high skill encounters, because it was in all the other mmo’s before gw2.
So you expect it to be so, but end game is, what to do after lvling, and i have said it already there is so much stuff to do after lvling.
You could do dungeons, lvl crafting, get legendary weapons, world completion, wvw + levling wvw, pvp, events, world bosses, personal story, than get ascended weapons and gear, new dungeon the mist that have so much lvl’s.
Than there was the living story every 2 weeks updates you get for free.
With other games you have to wait 6months or a year to get something and you have to pay for it.
Haha, you have got to be kidding me. Even if you play this game CASUALLY for at least 1 year you could have completed all this stuff
Dungeons are already boring after 1 time. No interesting mechanics, no, just nothing, just wallhugging and pressing 1.
Level Crafting: Done that in 1h, and even if you have leveled it, whats the use? It gives you absolutely NOTHING.
Legendary Weapons: Hah, stupid grindfest. And even if you obtain one, what are you gonna do? Sit all day and look how people will think you are a great player because you obtained a legendary? Because again, it gives you NOTHING over any normal exotic(yeah, like changing stats on the fly are worth it).
World completion: Within 2 years I did world completion on 6 characters. And believe me, the 3th time gets boring… And again, what do you achieve? What do you obtain? Absolutely nothing, so why do it at all.
WvW: Im not even gonna discuss WvW……..
PvP: Idem
Events: After you have done them 1 time, which you surely will, why repeat? To again obtain NOTHING.
World Bosses: For what? Wasting alot of time pressing 1 for another useless green?
Personal Story: Completed, done, finished and huge bummer about how easy frigging Zhaitan was. Wow, he surely will destroy Tyria if we wouldn’t have killed him!!!!!11111 NOES.
Ascended weapons: For what? You don’t need them, they don’t always look that good and the difference between Ascended and exotic is so small, its neglectible. So why waste all the time and resources if you, again, gain NOTHING from it.
Living story: haha, LS is a big fail IMHO. I have to wait 2 weeks for 2 hours of ‘content’. Skippable cutscenes and dialogues because they are weak, and it all comes down to this: kill this and that, and then move on to kill that. In the meantime, let me bore you with this cutscene that no one gives a crap about. Oh, but there is more!!!! Since we fail at delivering high quality(repeatable) content that would occupy you for a while, you now have to do the same kitten thing again if you wan’t the achievments!!! Hah, in your face!!
And this was theoraticly speaking if you would be playing the game for 1 year. Imagine how the vets feel.
And ofcourse, this is just MY opinion on everything, and sure, some people like the LS dialogues etc. etc. That’s fine, and I am happy for them that they like it. I’m not saying they should stop with LS or anything.
The fact is, I don’t have the solution to what this game ‘needs’. But I can tell this game needs to lay it’s focus on different things and head into a different direction if it wants to keep a large, happy and active community. I don’t know the solution, Anet needs to come up with that, but all im saying is that things need to change.

In my opinion, endgame shouldn’t just be fixed to a particular type. I’d rather have players do their own thing past the Personal Story rather than have them do a very difficult raid as a fixed “rite of passage” indicating that they have truly beaten GW2. Unfortunately, people have different tastes with MMOs as they do with most games I would think.
whats a high skill encounter? i think he means like wow raids that are super easy once you know what to do its the exact same, im not saying much of anythings harder in gw2. also just a note, the forums are terrible places to get real info most users dont even use them for the reason of the silly elitest cult and the rampant rage for no reason. there is no such thing as endgame just games with treadmills

So many useless stuff, yes. We are humans, if we invest time in something it’s natural that we expect something for it back. In here, we invest a lot of time, gold and grinding into something that doesn’t help us in any way. Sure, there is horizontal progression as claimed by the developers, but in here, there is no progression AT ALL atm.

It has nothing to with other MMOs. I myself define endgame as something you do after you have done all the casual stuff. Experienced the story, discovered the world, geared out your character. After that, it’s all about horizontal progression but the rewards are skill gated, with varying levels of skill. That way people with limited time can still participate. So again, to me, endgame = after casual stuff is dealt with.
As you realy want something rewarded for it back, and you want it to help you, you don’t have to game, it wil not help you in any way in real life.
And there is one thing that you get in reward, the fun of playing.
There are so much mmo’s that have the things people say is not as endgame in gw, why they just go play that game than. obviously not ^^
well, Illuminati kinda brings it to the point.
I built 9 legendaries. I got >700 repeats on my hobby dungeon explorer. I like doing pve and I rly played alot.
BUT, after TWO YEARS, there is nothing, NOTHING new in part of pve endcontent. It’s getting rly boring running the same dungeons day after day.
WvW can be fun, but mostly it’s boring.
sPvP is upper crap. I rly enjoyed playing GW1 GvG, I played Top 100 til Top 20, so yeah I’d say I’m kind of a pvp player. But this GW2 “PvP” stuff, it’s just kitten.
Yes, you cant say, there’s no content, but you cant say there is, as well. It’s depending on the ppl and how they like to play the game/a game.
And for me, it should be clear. There is nothing, 2 years and nothing.
The only thing, why I’m still playing, there’s no other game that fits to my needs, but give me one and I’ll not stay for a second longer.
Endgame is anything done at peak progression with BiS gear. GW2 has a very definite endgame, it’s just pretty small and has been nearly unchanged for 2 years. Skin collection isn’t exactly “endgame” – it’s nice, but it’s not endgame material. Endgame would be some more dungeons; some smaller, more defensive-based WvW zones that have a level requirement; or anything PvP related.
That’s why a lot of veteran players are getting burnt out – 2 years later and the endgame is still virtually the same as it was 2 years ago. There were some minor updates, but nothing that truly offered an expanding world. There might not be anything we can do, but ANet might want to give that some consideration.

K i know what you guys say is true, as you play a lot you have done most of the stuff there is.
I play from the start but not 10 hours a day or so more like 4 hours a day and i play gw from the 3 year of gw 1 and i like it and i like the way they give new stuff for free and more.
So i know it always can be better, but gw is the only game that is so good that you can play it always with no worry’s of paying and play because you payed, and is not boring, and the lore is really nice and is brought at a good way to the players.
So why complaining all the time, just play and have fun and you will see what the future brings for gw.
…, just play and have fun and you will see what the future brings for gw.
I’m doing this, I like the game, but it’s getting really boring.
And waiting to see what the future brings, believe me, I’m doing this for a long time but as I mentioned, 2 years. Get this on your mind, 2 years and nothing really happend for people like me.
There is a reason other mmorpg designed their games around this “end game idea”. Because many people actually want it this way.
GW2 isn’t exactly a sandbox games, those are the type of games, that the end game start at lvl1.
I think this no end game thing is coming back to hunt them. That being said, to design more content for veteran gamers probably take lots of work. (and I dont’ mean silly achievement or collection various skins)
Endgame means doing content beyond max level, which is level 80 in GW2.
Once you reach max level, endgame is supposed to offer progression beyond leveling, or acquisition of things, whether it’s gear, leaderboards, achievements, etc.
Does GW2 have these? Yes. It’s up to the players to decide if it’s worth their time though, and not just for GW2, but other MMOs and games.

There is no endgame in GW2. The developers have made that abundantly clear back when the game was nearing launch. They sold us on the “total experience”, from beginning to end, and to some degree they hit the mark. The articles you listed as supposed end game pieces can be started at any time during your leveling experience. The only feature that could technically be called “endgame” is the Living Story Season 2, since it requires you to finish the personal story.

at least it take them 2 years before the forum start being piled up with complaint.
many people included me have a good run for many month(maybe even a whole year). Before I get bored.
I only started seeing this many complaints now. There was complaints before about endgame, but not this many.

Indeed. It took me around 1/1.5 years to get bored. But that was when I still had faith in the game. I wasn’t impatient so I gave it time. But now, 0.5 years later still NOTHING has changed. And thats where my faith stops, and the complaining begins. And I think that’s the situation for most players. We were unhappy a lot earlier, but that’s when we still had faith and had trust that the game would still go in the ‘right’ direction. But now the bomb exploded because it took to long. Massive piles of complaints don’t just turn up out of nowhere, it takes time to let such a bomb explode. And sure, there are always complainers, but this is a bomb. And that just doesn’t happen out of nowhere.
I don’t think that anyone would object to new content. I am border line bored of pve. However I do still enjoy spot and wvw
I do agree with the op on some things. But we need some more content. I don’t care if it is more dungeons a real guild vs guild mode or my personal favorite bring back the Hall of Heros.

And everyone knows what bombs do. This time, player-base is going to die, for real.
Subjective. To me, endgame means high skill encounters.
If you want high skill events, then make them! Try doing something with lower level armor, or no armor at all. Try soloing dungeons..or parts of them.

High skill events should equal better rewards. Ofcourse, you can make high skill events in the way you suggested, but the rewards would still be useless and, well, just useless, like all event rewards are.
The most widespread meaning of end-game refers to content that’s usually harder to master, that requires a significant time and resource investment in order to complete effectively and usually gives better rewards than other content.
We lack that in GW2.
FOTM is very close – it requires skill at high levels but sadly the reward aspect of fractals is very poor – making it end-game only if you’re willing to subject yourself to unrewarding hard to complete content.
I understand that people feel that GW2 has a casual focus – but even in a casual game this sort of content has to exist.
It becomes a focus point – a driving force making the player base work towards something – something to achieve for bragging rights or just for the better rewards.
It motivates people to get somewhere.
You don’t need to be able to do anything else than mash you #1 key to run a champion train and it’s usually more rewarding than doing FOTM.
That’s a problem – because people have nothing to work towards.
